  1. Yesterday
  2. The space issue is a big one, but at least they're physical objects which will still exist if your cloud goes ping and vanishes for some weird legal reason. That always puts me off digital stuff.
  3. Yeah space is a big issue. Mostly why I am going for trades lately
  4. Space is a major concern. With my amount of books and comics I own, I have no room for anything else here really. It's starting to look like I'm a hoarder. Physical comics really do take up a huge amount of space. I remember back around 2002, I had about seven long boxes full of comics. Now, I've completely run out of room for boxes, there have gotten to be so many, and have had to start stacking up piles of comics in any places I can find. Things have gotten more than a bit out-of-control.
  5. Some really interesting posts guys, thanks for sharing! I've moved from print to digital, for comics, for two reasons - 1) Space! Before I moved into my current place I had boxes and boxes, shelves and shelves of comics and trades. I donated the bulk of the single issues rather than take them with me and then started the process of building trade collections for those discarded series. I made a conscious decision to stop buying physical monthly comics cause I knew where it would end and I just don't have the space. 2) Cost! Comixology, my digital platform of choice, isn't much cheaper than buying the physical product but they run regular sales that do offer significant savings. A good example here would be Ellis' Wild Storm, I've picked up each of the three trades released so far for a third of the retail price digitally. Space is the main thing for me, I just can't go back to having comics all over the fucking gaff! I'll still buy physical collections in certain cases - The Walking Dead, and Hellblazer for example but anything new will be digital only for now. Definitely miss those small little chats at the till or being introduced to new titles by staff who know my tastes. Can still remember the first comic I bought in Sub City as the guy who rang it up really liked the cover and that stuck with me, can't put a price on personable staff. It was this issue of Hellblazer, for the record - I'll be reading actual books physically till the day I die though.
  6. Print is definitely the format that I prefer to read my comics, and I'm lucky enough to currently live in a place where there are two comic shops not on but quite close to the same street. But I have gotten into using Comixology/Kindle lately because the frequent sales make it more tempting to take a chance on something I wouldn't have bothered trying in print. And it does save up space on the shelves and boxes, because I am running out of those. But I'm still rather wary of the whole digital comics thing due to the simple fact that a physical comic will still be here in ten years, can the same be said for its digital equivalent?
  7. Last week
  8. No, if comics ever went all-digital, without print comics being available, I would just stop reading comics at that point. It'd be a good time to end this madness. heh I know what you mean, Lou. I am friends with the owner of the comic shop I frequent. I knew his father. He was the original owner of the store. We used to hang out together. His father was 80, and I was in my 20s at the time. heh We used to play games on the computer and went to restaurants. His father died of a brain aneurysm in 2005, and the son took over the store. So, I've known him and his wife since 2005. There's a long history there, going back to the friendship I also had with his father. There is one other comic book store left in Flint. I would probably end up going there to buy comics. It wouldn't be the same though. If both of them happened to close, then I'd probably just pick up some Trades online when something caught my eye, yeah.
  9. I don't know what I would do if my shop shut down. It's not just a place to buy comics, we often chat about a wide array of things and much laughter is shared. I'd probably just stop collecting individual issues and grab trades online or something. I am not one for digital comics, really.
  10. That sucks Dave. I hate seeing comic shops go down.
  11. Let me tell you about comixology, my friend...
  12. There isn't really anything this week. I'll pick up Gideon Falls and Spiderman Life Story from last week. Big news is that my local shop announced that they are shutting down at the end of the month. My interest in comics has been waning lately, so I'm likely not going to find a new shop. I've been with this guy since he opened 16 years ago, and um more than a little sad that he is closing. On the bright side, I'll be saving a bunch of money every month, I guess. I've got a stack of unread comics to get thru, so it will likely be a week or so before I run dry. My Wednesday routine is about to get very different.
  13. Only Marvel Comics Presents #5, because it features a new Nightcrawler story by Chris Claremont.
  14. Nothing new for me, onto the second Cal McDonald series.

  17. Given he's managed twenty-four issues of The Wildstorm, there's another possibility for an unsatisfying resolution you're overlooking there: the series ending mid plot (possibly with a rant on twitter about how he doesn't owe the fans anything and he's not their bitch just because they were buying his comic) after three or four issues...
  18. The next spin-off in The Wild Storm is launching this August: a six-issue mini for Wildcats that he'll be writing with Ramon Villalobos on art. (Unlike Michael Cray, he appears to be handling full writing duties for Wildcats) https://www.newsarama.com/45207-warren-ellis-resurrects-wildcats-in-august.html O/U on this either being about two issues of story (a generous estimate) stretched out into six or six barely connected done-in-ones?

    DC Comics

I believe his contributing a story to that DC Retrospective project, where DC looked back over the best creative teams for the past few decades, before the New 52 relaunch, was the last time we saw Grant writing for DC. He contributed to the Batman in the 1980s issue. So, at least DC acknowledged that Alan Grant was pretty much the best writer on the Bat-books during the 1980s back then.
  20. Yeah, no. It hasn't even been a year since the last relaunch. They did that weekly Uncanny X-Men relaunch, which lead in to the Age of X-Man, and the current Matthew Rosenberg run on Uncanny X-Men. I don't think too many people will miss the current direction of the X-titles though, as we're back to the "no more mutants" direction right now, which is a deadend plot. I'm excited for Hickman to take over on X-Men though. I'm hoping his run will be closer to what Grant Morrison was doing on the title.
  21. This is pretty much why I don't read X Men
  22. They won't rest until every issue of X-Men is a relaunch...

    DC Comics

https://www.newsarama.com/45167-anarky-reigns-as-2nd-new-story-added-to-detective-comics-1000-deluxe-edition.html In much smaller news, DC's trying to get a few extra bucks out of the fanboys by adding a new story by Alan Grant (with Scott McDaniel on art) to the hardcover deluxe edition of Detective Comics #1000. This would be Grant's first writing for DC in how many years? They cancel the trades reprinting his Detective run and leave him out of the celebration the first time around, but I guess it's nice to see someone at DC acknowledging the role he played in Batman history.
  24. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/marvel-planning-new-x-universe-jonathan-hickman-1210528 Well, another X-Men relaunch was to be expected since Marvel was going to make an event out of Hickman's return and all, but has it even been a full year since the last one before this one was announced?
