Awesome sauce. But you could have included the vocals and rhythm up until "killing spree". John has good flow.

Friday's episode is our homage to urban legends, but not once do we talk about urban legends. See how many you can spot in ep. #Constantine

Is Eddie Campbell in the house?

And Azzarello's Iceman (though the winters down South vary)?

And the show's the 2nd most trending topic on Twitter tonight surpassing the Bill Cosby debacle and last night's How to Get Away With Murder mid-finale.

EDIT: 3 hours on and its still no.2 in Twitter trending. How's that for breaking the internet?

I had some notes, the lack of undo button on my tablet means they are lost.
Tsk.

In summary:
Quibbles:
I wish that Chas had been the grounded Chas of the comics. I think they have absolutely nailed his personality, but he's magical Kenny.
Also, he's DCU52 Chas, which I guess is DC's right, as long as they realise we have something of more appeal to Hellblazer fans here.

One of the things I have not enjoyed about Zed is the constant expression of concern on her face. There was less of that today, but the idea she's troubled is established now so ease off. More of that asexual flirting and we'll be in X Files territory.

That bloody map was back. Although they have diminished its importance a little.
My main complaint is the bag of magical James Bond style devices used. Although I laughed when John brought out an old-fashioned crow bar :-D
On reflection this is clearly because Constanteen used magical James Bond devices in the film. And by my reckoning there are approximately 40million people who have seen the film (not a mathematical figure) so I guess we can't demand all the things that 40,000 comics readers might want.

And ewwww cats.

Otherwise:
Continued upward trend for me - especially for the ongoing story.
I very much liked the way the three ghost stories were established and the personalities of the ghosts and their mourners was conveyed efficiently.

Zed's visions are a much better way to convey the story along than the map, and I like that she's getting stronger.

The introduction of Corrigan gives me a great deal of hope for the future - as long as the Dark DCU (I am dropping the Justice League Dark contrivance from now on) is a spin off. The final scene with Zed and Jim was eerie. And of course moved Zed's tale along. Looks like we're getting a Resurrection Crusade here from the clues so far.

Papa Midnite is a damn fine take on the character. He has honour, he is confident based on experience. And he talks to his dead sister's skull.

"Turn down that bloody reggae will you?"
And glee as Constantine uses proper escapologist technique rather than magic.

I was worried that the "banter" between Midnite and Constantine was going to veer towards that campy "I am better than you" but this was portrayed as PM being barely tolerant of JC's dabbling and lack of respect, and JC thinking he knows better and using Harry Potter Latin. The movement from John barging in on the Voodoo Dance Scene (tm all voodoo films ever) to uneasy partnership was smooth. And later, I liked that Constantinian magic failed again. But actually because they'd misunderstood where the cause of the ghosts lay.

Their final scene together here showed to me why the writers get Constantine.
It was set up that Constantine might want to talk to his Mother (without ladling on the back story), we've already heard why he might want to do something about Astra. But as it turns out he wants information about the impending doom aka The Darkness.
And he gets unexpected info (judging by his look of regret) about someone close to him.

There seems to be a buzz growing about the series.
My timeline is obviously tainted by Hellblazer nerds and people involved in the programme, but several friends unconnnected with the comics have been enjoying the series.

Now, how did that Syfy motherlode effect viewing figures?
Do I have to come over to America and slap everyone upside the head?

That's not the only smoking scene, but it was exquisitely placed immediately after the opening theme.

I actually missed it, but noticed the one where John uses his fag to light Papa Midnite's fire.
(Not in the Take That! sense <shudder> leave that to the slash fiction kids.)

I really enjoyed that, probably my favourite episode so far!

Ade echoing the only issue I had with the episode there, the bracelet was naff and I'm already bored of John's infinite supply of oh-so-helpful magic shit.  Even as a grumpy, fuck the New52, sort I liked how they handled the Spectre stuff at the end.  The Constantine/Midnite interaction was excellent, Papa nailed our boy with some pretty good verbal shots.

Some comic's based speculation on the prophesied betrayal, [ Spoiler : well it's the Resurrection Crusade, innit ? ].

On ratings...

Quote

The surprise of the night was actually over on NBC with sometimes flailing freshmanConstantine (1.1/4). After taking a big dive last week on a night of ostensibly less competition the demon detective series based on the classic Hellblazer DC Comic series jumped up an undeniably impressive 38% among the key demo. Maybe it was because the show is starting to resemble the comic more, but only was that the bestConstantine has done demowise since the 1.4 of its October 24 debut but, with 3.5 million watching, it is the best the series has done viewership since then too.
