I did not see a Dark Horse thread but hot damn, is anyone else reading Black Hammer? This is the one book I look forward to the most each month, and the first one I crack open each Wednesday.

Wormwood was not bad. Although I have no idea why I bought Jimmy's Bastards.

Blazing through Scalped care of Comixology's ongoing 60% off Vertigo sale and, coming up on the half-way point, it's been a relentlessly grim and gripping read.  Like settling down to consume six seasons of your new favourite HBO drama, nearly impossible to put down despite how fucking horrible nearly everyone and everything in it is.

Finished Scalped, comments above hold through right to the end - I'd go so far as to say that the actual ending is Wire tire.

Fantastic read, though one or two of the sequences did confuse me a little, maybe my own fault for reading late at night, overall though a Vertigo classic.

Just gone through the first issue of CalExit, which was a mix of the excellent (some real thought has gone into the fuckups and mess that would be involved in California seceding) and the less impressive (ludicrously overdone main villain of the piece who's presumably off closing orphanages, taking sweeties from babies and kicking puppies while while he's not strutting around the page twirling his mustache and threatening everybody), and there's some nice interviews in the back as padding as well.
It does come across a bit as a hipster revamp of DMZ (except the protagonists are natives, rather than imports, so there's less infodumping to bring them and the reader up to speed), but that doesn't really hurt it any.

I read CalExit #1 also. The bad guy being a super-villain was off-putting for the story. It took me out of the story, when it seemed like a Silver Age Marvel story was inserted in to a realistic plot.

William Gibson's comic (Archangel) finally reached an ending this week. 5 issues in over 12 months? Not too bad. heh
The way it ended was how I was hoping that Secret Empire would end.
The heroes would try to put reality back to how it was before Red Skull used the Cosmic Cube. They'd succeed in ending the reign of Hydra.
One hero asks another, "Did we do it? Did we put everything back to how it was supposed to be?" "I think so...." replies another hero.
They see a newspaper headline showing that Donald Trump is president.
"What? How is that possible?" "That's....that's just awful!".
Then they'd think about it and remember Hydra's America. "Well, I guess it's not the worst that could ever happen."
That's not exactly how Archangel ended.

Peter Milligan has a new series coming out from IDW starting in October. It sounds like the Milligan of old, and is called Kid Lobotomy.
It's the first series Shelly Bond is bringing to IDW as their new editor.

CC what the hell ever happened to Grant Morrison's Avatarex?

Was it only a 3 issue series? I thought there were more

I think it was supposed to be a six-issue mini-series. Obviously, Morrison is jealous of all the attention that Warren Ellis gets for not finishing his series, and decided he would try it, to see what pleasure he could derive from it.
He's got Gibson beat. Only 3 issues published since, I think, April 2016.

I'm not sure that one was down to Morrison abandoning the series, though...
