Yes, Rooker was surprisingly good as was Nebula.

Well, I wasn't sure that his character would make such major contributions to the plot (I don't read any GotG). He turned out to be one of my favorite bits, even if sometimes it felt like he was just a blue Merle.

Turns out I was wrong. Guess we won't be seeing Big G and the Surfer in the Marvel Cosmos any time soon.

I really hope Yondu comes back for GOTG2 (can we call it that?). He sort of has to figure in some how, doesn't he? With the way things were laid out by the end of the movie. I love that he's a red-neck...err...blue-neck, biker gang sort of space trash. So, yeah, Space Merle or Blue Merle. I want more of this!

The scene at the end of the credits was done purely for fun. Nothing more.
The powers that be at Marvel have all but said,  [ Spoiler : NO WAY will there be Howard the Duck movie. But who knows? Fan response has been far more huge than I expected. I thought the credit to Steve Gerber was classy. Also, is it true that Howard was voiced by Seth Green?? That would be amazing. Speaking of such cameos; apparently Nathan Fillion was the blue alien that Groot jacked up by his nostrils. ]

Also also Guardians of the Galaxy 2 [ Spoiler : I don't think Thanos will be THE BIG BAD. Based on what we saw in this movie, with Peter's half-alien biology, his dad having sent Yondu, and so on, I think it will involve the Spartoi, his non-Earth side of the family. At some point they would have to tell the story of Peter making it back to Earth.

It seems like they're saving Thanos for Avengers 3. Build and build and build, include the Guardians, others non-Avengers, the Avengers, etc to take the biggest bad of them all. And by that time most of the actors contracts will be up.

Marvel, ya got class.
They arranged for a private screening for Bill Mantlo, co-creator of Rocket (and some other characters, not to mention, a fine Marvel writer). Also, they are helping to make sure he is paid his due, to help out with his going medical care. My respect for Marvel has shot way up.

i wasn't impressed with cooper's lame bronx accent. the ending came close to ruining  this movie for me. the guy who played ronin was the main dickhead guy in Halt & Catch Fire.

You criticise his accent and you are trying too hard to not enjoy yourself.

Besides, who's to say there isn't a Bronx-like on Half-World (Rocket's home planet)? Kind of like in Doctor Who where lots of planets have a "north."
OR
maybe Rocket watched some Honeymooner's episodes that have been drifting in space for all these decades.

3 people liked that? oh, you're all dead to me. mother was right! she knew you were all no good!

see, i liked the movie until the end (i have a thing about ends). but just knowing other actors with seemingly better voices, or voices with a huge upside or potential, were considered but not used casts a pallor upon the film for me now. i probably won't illegally download it as soon as a good version of it exists. sigh.

Why? Because the accent was bad, or because a Bronx accent was wrong for the character? In which case, I again ask: Why?

What was wrong with the ending?

the dance off and the whole thing seemed hokie. also it was just a bridge to a sequel. it's one thing to plant a seed for one, it's quite another to add on a denouement for the sole purpose of 'hello sequel.'

as for cooper, i'm just not a fan. i think all those possibilities listed above would have been better. even sandler.

I saw it the first Friday it was out with the bf and we had a lot of fun watching it. I definitely felt it was one of the best of the Marvel films, though I still prefer Captain America 2. The film was just a good old time though still felt it was missing a little something that I can't put my finger on till this day. But as a whole, highly recommended. I loved the whole cast and the group had such a fantastic dynamic together, emotionally and comedic. The audience had a ball cracking up when Drax spoke. Was not expecting him to be as funny as he ended up being.

He's NOT a raccoon!

...Sorry. He just wouldn't like you using that term!

Seriously now: the most fun I've had at a cinema in ages. The chemistry and bantering between the group was fantastic, and Gunn handled pretty well the tone balance between the comedy (95% of it worked for me) and the pathos (I nearly teared up with "We are Groot", for real. Also, drunk Rocket agonising over being called a "vermin" somehow hit me in the heart, too).

With a few things ironed out, such as using a MacGuffin different to a "magical orb" (hello, The Avengers!), making Ronan an actually interesting villain and less time devoted to the convoluted cosmic shit and more time to develop the slightly sudden friendship of the group, if would have been pretty much a Perfect Blockbuster.
