If the show did dispense of Jesus DeSade, the Sex Detectives and the other one dimensional homosexual characters and not any of the other one dimensional Christian characters wouldn't that be HBO pandering to the "bigoted Homosexual agenda"

No, in regard to the gay characters, it would be getting rid of lame crap that the story never needed in the first place.

EDIT - And what one dimensional Christian characters do you have in mind?  Off hand I can't remember any.

QUOTE
or is it alright to be equally offensive to religious people, homosexuals, Irish alcoholics, vampires, art students, and those who have sex with Armadillos?

The religious elements are much more central to Preacher than are any individual freakish characters.  I'm just guessing, but the religious elements are sure to offend many fundamentalists and some Catholics.  The problem is that modifying the religious stuff enough to quiet theologically conservative Chriistians would eviiscerate Preacher.  Modifying or eliminating most (or all?) of the gay characters wouldn't.

Now if you picked a story where unattractive gay characters were central to the story, for instance the play and movie The Boys in the Band, you couldn't toss them out because they're  completely necessary, no matter what anyone of any political persuasion thought.  I'm sure there are modern works of popular culture which include peripheral, gratuitous elements that insult subgroups of people of faith, but that's only a little true of Preacher.

I'm so excited about this that I might have palpitations if i think about it too much. I'm having palpitations just thinking about how many hundreds of ways they could fuck this up and just how much I disliked Daredevil.

I don't think there's any way this could be as bad as Daredevil.  I'm going to try to stay optimistic about this.

What is the projected air date? I swear, if PREACHER is successful, TRANSMETROPOLITAN could be even bigger done in the same format. I've already been bugging Darick to get Ennis to sort of point in TRANSMET's direction once they'd gotten started. Hey, look over there...cha-CHING, money boys! Cha-CHING!

This is getting very wide reporting as complete fact (CNN, MSNBC etc) so there might be something to it this time, John's right. I'm just dying to hear about the casting decisions. I'm thinking they might be a major indicator of how good this is going to be.

Another thing that scared me is the fact that Howard Deutch is attached to do the regular directing (Daredvil guy just doing the pilot). This is the man that gave us such gems as Caroline in the City on TV and The Whole Ten Yards on film. I'm wondering what HBO guy was watching Pretty in Pink one day and thinking, yeah, this guy could direct mass murder, dismemberment, serial killing and cannibalism extremely well.

I think HBO is the perfect place to bring high quality graphic novels to life. That said I'm crossing my fingers, but I'm not holding my breath.
Cool like dat!!!

James Wilkinson as Jesse.

You're just saying that so you can be Cassidy, aren't you?

The multiple personality woman from Heroes would make a good Tulip, but obviously she's taken.

He played Danny Moon. He was awful. I just think he looks a bit like Jesse.

I think that picture of Billy is bang on, though!

Every time I think of who I'd like playing Cassidy, Bill Paxton in Near Dark flies into my head.  I think Garff watched that movie as well.

Yeah, he nails the look, doesnt he?

But I don't think Paxton can pull off Irish. He's a good ol' boy from Texas and I don't think I've ever heard him ditch that accent. Not that I'm saying he's not a good actor...Frailty was definitive evidence on that front.

Oh no, that just made me wonder if they'll do any "oh he's not red-haired and Irish, he's a blond surfer from California vampire!" type stuff.

I see Cassidy as someone more withered and spindly. Paxton's pretty macho, really.

How old was Cassidy when he was bitten? Still in his teens? The flashback to the story of his change made him seem like he was still growing. He never really looks like a man, does he? He looks like a man in a boy's body. To me, anyway.

Cassidy would have an Iggy Pop style body with more scars.
