Anyway, interesting interview with Moore here where he discusses the creative process behind Lost Girls.
A brief excerpt -
"There's not a lot of scatology in Lost Girls, because… well, to say that it wasn't anything that appealed to us is not to put it exactly correctly. Because there's lots of things in Lost Girls that don't appeal personally to me or Melinda. But there were things that we had to find some way of getting interested in, in order to make them arousing. We had to be, to some degree, aroused ourselves, or it wasn't going to be interesting to the readers. But things like scatology were a bit beyond the pale, and we just couldn't find a way that we could get even vaguely interested in it. Sorry, all you scat fans out there."

I think Hibbs has cultivated a particularly strong and diverse consumer base in his area, combine that with the high-price point of the item and it's not too surprising that it's his most expensive buy of the week.

I suppose I'd better chime in with my two pennies'/fifty quid's worth, then.
I actually did a quick "here's what I thought of it" in the Graphic Novels thread, but for anyone who might not have been paying attention, here it is again. Further thoughts will doubtless follow, 'cos I'm planning to read it again, this time taking a bit more time over it, fairly soon.
I like it - in fact, I like it a lot - but I'm going to have to read the whole thing again at least once or twice before I'm sure exactly how good I think it is. On a first read-through, it felt slightly inconsistent - a few chapters didn't really convince me as literature, while others failed as pornography (the latter criticism, of course, coming with a "what turns you on may differ from what turns me on" caveat), but on the whole, I liked far more of it than I didn't like, and I suspect that the whole package will work rather better on a second run-through. It's a beautiful piece of work, visually-speaking - Gebbie's evocative, dreamy art took a while to grow on me (it still isn't entirely my cup of tea, speaking from a purely porn-tastic angle, but the story-telling is excellent), but the lush colouring is gorgeous, and the varying visual styles are fascinating - the pastiches of Aubrey Beardsley, in particular, were superbly-executed, and the juxtaposition of light and shade throughout the book (in both writing and art, as you might expect) was superb. It really benefits from the superb printing, paper-stock, binding and packaging, too - it cost a fairly sizeable chunk of money, but I don't feel remotely ripped-off. It's an expensive book, for sure, but that's not the same as being an over-priced one.
It's worth stressing that people with faulty "Real/Not Real" detectors really should stay well clear of the whole thing, though.
