Who is this Flynn character who Constantine meets at the end of the Fear Machine? I'm confused, seems to be a literary something or other: the Admiral Benbow, Holmes etc. But whats the point?

Well the technical point is that it's a bridging story between Fear Machine and The Family Man, Flynn is a dealer and I think Constantine needs something from him (I can't remember what it's been a while since I read it). Flynn deals in everything so that brings Constantine in convenient contact with The Family Man.
The literary point is that Flynn is larger than life, his tales fanciful and his exploits legend so the fictional universe decide to claim him as their own, he's just too colourful to live in the real world, it's a funny little story and a breather before jumping into another massive arc.

There's also a touch of meta-textual commentary with regards whether there's a "real" John Constantine.

I've heard it suggested that he bears a certain resemblance to Jerry Cornelius.
