Off to London next week for a spot of R&R, would appreciate some advice regarding good food and drink. We will be staying in Clerkenwell on Charterhouse Street so anything in the area would be especially appreciated though all central locations will be considered. Thanks in advance.

I can recommend a couple of places in central London.

Pubs:
The Social - Little Portland St
Waxy's Little Sister - Wardour Street
The Toucan - Wimpole Street. Guinness pub.

Restaurants:
Mr Kong - Lisle Street. Great chinese food reasonably priced. Service can be a bit hurried though.
Kikuchi - Hanway Street. Excellent Japanese restaurant.
Andrew Edmunds - Quality Soho restaurant, tucked away off the main drag.

I heartily recommend hooking up with Ade. He knows several good pubs.

I recommendo you Toresano.

Really authentic spanish food, and Ribera de Duero wine. My ex girlfriend took me there because the restaurant is from one guy of her family and, man, it was like being in Spain again after several months in Belgium.

You're in Clerkenwell so there's a couple of vibrant pubs on the green.
You are close to the Jerusalem Tavern on Britton st which has lovely microbrewery beer of St peter'

Hugh's more the bon viveur than I, so follow his advice on food ...
Although ignore the recommendation of the social unless there's a good gig on.

Pescatore is awesome. There's two of them. One on Dover Street and one on Charlotte Street both are superb. Probably the best food I've had in London.

I'm not a huge fan of dim sum, so I can only suggest places that friends have recommended to me:

Ping Pong Dim Sum
Yau At Cha

Oh, and if you want a taste of the auld country (and a fine selection of whiskies):
Albannach, Trafalgar Square. Great food, great bar, great whisky, fabulous location. But definitely not cheap.

There's a great Dim Sum place on Charlotte Street called Dim T.

Ping Pong is pretty good too. Expensive, though.

The Ship in New cavendish Street (close to the Great Portland Street tube station) isn't bad. It used to be the Charisma Records local, apparently.
