If not, I am soliciting Football art from the sketch tables.

damn ade, i haven't emailed you back about this have i?

Um...Jock has been sitting idle on this topic way too long. It's valentine's day, Jock! Go out and chat some ladies up!
funny you should say that.... i've been erasing away with th ethread open.
tho i'm not chatting up, honest!
here you go--
-
just got to the studio, so here's a bit of progress of one of the painted pages.... probably needs more bugs. (what doesn't?)

Damn you busy SOB.
This exclusive contract crap is absolutely KILLING me.
damn... yeah, that sucks. i take it it was full on comic work you were thinking of then? (i just wondered if we could sneak it in the back door, as the contract doesn't cover work in other media, just comics...)
well, i'm not going anywhere, so hopefully we can work something out down the line.

Salivating at those pencils, will rescind anything i may have said re the versitilty of your art.
Only know the great pop Losers stuff.
thnaks! what did you say then???? no problem whatever it was....
to be honest, i was salivating at the idea of doing this issue as all i'm known for in the states is THE LOSERS. i wanted to be sure people saw another string to my bow, and a nice stand alone issue of SWAMP THING really gives me the platform to let off some steam. it is such a contrast to the losers pages, but that's very intenetional.
joshua has (bless him) written the script especially for me, with a number of full page design/montage pieces which i can go buck wild on. these are being fully painted too (another element i haven;t had the chance to show since working at DC...). i'll post up a bit more progress for you fine folks here.

That is absolutely awesome Jock, have they lined you up with anything regular after the Losers?
thanks! yeah, after this swamp thing issue i'll be working with some writer you guys have never heard of... erm, mike corey or summat? matt fairy?i don't know, the name escapes me, but he's written an absolute cracker of a mini series called FAKER. look for it from vertigo towards the end of the year.
also, i have a proposal in with my partner in crime andy diggle, for a DCU mini series. so we'll see what bites.

Want me to take this one Jock?
'And by the way . . . ABSOLUTELY STUNNING page.
We may have to make a trade when you finish that story.'
ahhh, ya big flatterer.... cheers! i love to swap art, so if there's anything you see that gives you the good stuff, be sure to give me a shout. your print of #181 is already up on the wall of my studio, looking fantastic.
And remember - EMAIL me.
it's on it's way!
OK - Fullmetal -
You could be using a lead that is too hard. You may want to try a softer lead like an "HB" which is still hard but also soft and dark. If that's still too hard then try a "B" lead.
An honestly, in my opinion I don't ever really mind seeing some leftovers from the pencil lines populating a piece of art. You can kind of see where it started and that's cool.
Unless of course you are carving furrows into your board because you are pressing down so hard. If that is the case you just need to let up a little. The pencil is very much like a saw. You just have to let it do the work. If it's a control issue and pressing down hard is your way of having control, then seriously, just try backing off. Forcing control isn't the answer.
Case in point - You know when you get a new video game and you play it all day until your hand or fingers start to hurt from grasping the controller too hard? Eventually you learn to know the controls well enough that you can back off and relax. When you can relax your hands when playing a video game you know you got that sucker licked. Same thing with penciling.
Anything to add Brother Jock?
tim's covered alll the bases here - exactly right. a lot of people do use non repro blue pencil, but personally i just go for a good old HB pencil, and, like the bradstreet says, sometimes those 'construction lines' really bring out a piece. sounds like you've got it under control though.
hope that helps!

'With pics like that i wouldnt need colors '
thanks! i'm colouring it myself, so yeah, i want to be fairly sparse with this one...
glad you dig it!

"I don't know how much you know about this, or how much you're allowed to tell, but did he say what plans he had for the movie? Is it just going to be a straight run from issue 1-6? Does he plan to make it self-contained (ie. wrap up the Max identity thing in the first movie) or is he looking at a possible franchise? "
it was early days when we talked, but it's sounding like 'ante up' (issues 1-6) with elements of 'the pass' in there (their origin) + max.
"More importantly, is the really cool "Welcome to America" scene from issue 1 going to appear at any point?"
hope so! he did love that.
"So what function is Akiva going to carry out?"
no idea i'm afraid!

JOCKety!
Bend over for your big fat kiss.
You better be coming back to San D this year.
It just wasn't as much fun with you trapped in the Channel.
If you know you're coming I'll hold onto your proof of 181 until the show where I could hand it to you directly. no shipping = tranquility.
beautiful - i am ABSOLUTELY making it to SD next year tim... i missed it too much. it seems a long time to wait for #181, but as you say, much better in person. unless you can be coaxed over to the UK for a con before then???? :)
hope all is well with you and yours.

hey all - just to put my tuppence in.....
akiva goldsman was interested in THE LOSERS even before issue #1 came out - i had no idea he was still attatched until i read th epiece in VARIETY.
all i do know, is that pete berg LOVES the comic.... he was quoting lines and scenes left right and centre to andy and i when we met him a couple months ago.
he's the one writing it, and he's the one slated to direct. now i'm aware the studio bods will have their issues and changes and whatever but the fact pete set up a meeting with andy to discuss the best way to translate the comic to screen is, in my book, pretty encouraging.
it's early days - but i'll be sure to keep you updated here.
cheers!

yo tim,
i'd still LOVE to get #181 off you... it was my first foray into the american market, marked by one of my favourite covers ever by your good self. it's a beauty!!!
still sorry to have missed you at the cons this year - hope to see you soon!

. . . And Jock? My affection for you and your hedonistic ways knows no bounds.
i learnt it all from you tim.... :)
-
So, Jock - what are the odds of getting you back for a Hellblazer issue or two at some point? It seems like a pretty popular idea with everybody here, if the opinions of a bunch of interweb nerds count for anything...
it's a possibility once the losers has finished, though my right hand man editor will dennis no longer edits the title. i do have something lined up for when i finish - which i can't wait to get started on - but i'd love to draw more constantine at some point...
maybe i could take over covers?????!!!!!!! :p yeah right...
