  1. Ahhhh...finally got to see some episodes of The Venture Bros.. Good stuff. It's a slow day in the Writing Center, so in between students, I'm watching it on video.glath.com.

Awesome website got loads of episodes...

no any similiar ones then jay?

Also starting to get hooked on LOST / NIP-TUCK and WEEDs...

  2. Well Tuesday nites are pretty big here on our cable network..

    Smallville ( which I never watch...its true...)

followed by Prison Break ( S 2 ....like crack I tell you)

then Nip/Tuck which is the freaking awesome prophet of TV...this is what we need people...more shows like this...wow I think its one of the best TV shows eva...

Then last nite I caught my first episode of WEEDS...( S2 Eps 1 ) I liked it...quirky with enough amount of spice in it to make it into a good show...

Also caught EXTRAS for the first time...the one with Ben Stiller at the end...Hah worth a laff...

Is this show any good or is it way inferior to THE OFFICE...

  3. Just watched one last nite...its early on the season still...

The FBI guy appears to be...hm quirky to say the least...

The bit with T-Bag eating the map was brilliant...

Also nice cliffhanger with the KK Ranch / Silo turning into residential areas...

I stepped out for a piss and missed what happened to 'tweener?

I saw him getting his ass saved by Michael and Burroughs but then? How come he wasnt at the silo?

  4. Awesomeness...total brainnumbing tv tonight...

I think we are on episode 4 or 5...last week I saw HOLLY VALLANCE give Mahone a lap dance...um eww...lol..

So freaking pissed off they killed one of my faves BRATTZI ( The mafia guy forgive me) :icon_shotgun:

Still addicted and looking forward to the FBI guys catching up with T-Bag and ( maybe kicking Tweeners ass)

  5. I just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I kind of avoided this one for some reason, but I'm glad I finally saw this. Much better than the Lethal Waapon movies. Downey was hilarious as the narrator. Good stuff.

Me too. I was in the same boat also never keen to watch it...eventually did and was quite surprised...Downey was brilliant and Kilmer was actually okay...

    Enjoyable flick...

Just watched SMOKING ACES....Quite disapointed...expected a whole lot more...

very style over substance...excellent D.O.P work...

    52

Clever reveal for Ralphs storyline...yet if Faust gets out...surely Neron does too...

and no I dont think DC will create a new Elongated Man...they will let Plas fill that void...with his son...

Nice move on Sobek...only things left to ponder..

    Batwomans fate..

    The fall of Intergang

and Booster vs Skeets to the death....

  6. Well that'd be telling now, it's not so much a tape as an mp3 recording on a USB key.

Thats true...like I said I just caught Episode 1 of S2 on tv here in South Africa...I was curious how far behind are we...Is this season finished in the US and UK already?

John (The devil in Constantine ) and T-Bag steal the show I totally agree...

  7. Awesome show...

Caught Episode 1 of S 2 last nite....

Whoa didnt see that coming...hey isnt that dude Vice President brother or whatever the guy in the house from NASH BRIDGES...lol...

Anyway I like what Im hearing that this season isnt too much melodrama episodic bullshit...

without toooo much spoilery whats this about tapes then????

  8. Firstly I agree with Mark that Warren stuffed up Jack Cross by himself..but perhaps DC did not give it the TLC Warren wanted...i.e...Cover Artist...Variant...Exposure and perhaps a Vertigo spot...

Regardless I have yet to try out this THUNDERBOLTS run but from what I hear...I do not like and perhaps I hold SUICIDE SQUAD in too much regards to ever like a cheap imposter like this...

My point ( yes there is one) is to comment on the weirdness of NEXTWAVE # 12....a bit barmy indeed, Jmac

but now the series is open to continuation...

Is it true that another NEXTWAVE mini may be in the cards in 07 without Immonen though???

  9. That's Bubbles, dude, not Bumps. And McNulty's always in crap, the daft bastard. But he brings it on himself (the turnaround in his character from season one to season three is excellent).

And Coupling is great, at least it was up until they replaced Jeff.

    Yeah Bubbles...thanks man..

That was pretty smart move on Stringers part to remove the phones...have to see how the cops respond to that...

Why did they replace Jeff with that other moron? He was so clearly written as a Jeff-yet-more of a dork...

    Weird.

  10. Have to agree...Couplings crap...only a handful of episodes made me laugh...

better written than most FRIENDS clones...

Watched THE WIRE Season 1 Episode 7 or 8 last nite...

    1) Bumps rehab meetings...tragic guy that one...

    2) McNulty is in crap...again...

and oh shit...Stringer has ordered the phones be pulled out...

    :icon_mgun:

    I like...

  11. Apocalypto:The Fast Runner

A film of two parts really, the first being a dazzling, overwhelming and at parts surreal experience that comes close to (Although just not as classy as) the works of Fellini (Especially Satyricon) and Passolini (Especially Medea).

Although gorgeous looking enough it doesn't have the Terence Malick finesse of the similarily set The New World.

This half leading up to and through the Mayan temples is a technical feat(No Oscar nominations?) of breathtaking scope.

This is what the cinema and a Hollywood budget are meant for.

It's more than just eye candy, it's like some wild unsafe Imax 3-D fun ride, but with enough blood and guts to keep Frank Miller quiet.

It may be close to sadism, but atleast it's consistantly so.

The "gory scenes" weren't wedged in, the film is very much about them.

The second half however falls hard into the familiar.

It is essentially an arduous Tapir-balls-to-the-wall Escape/Chase sequence.

Familar or not (Although Gibson does subvert the escape-by-jumping-off-of-a-fuck-off-big-waterfall film cliche quite nicely) it's most defintely thrilling enough.

The most apt film comparison to Apocalypto is the Inuit film Atanarjuat:The Fast Runner

In Atanarjuat however(Itself a much better film) characters and their interactions feel far more believable.

This is probably due to it's fine cultural authenticity.

From what I've read authentic is not what Apocalypto should be marketed as.

And sometimes in Apocalypto Gibson feels like he may be in Noble Savage mode.

As far as political parallels to the present, that's annoyingly wide open.

Clearly Gibson is angry about something.

    But what exactly?

Perhaps it really is the Jews.

I'd recommend Apocalyto as a cinematic experience or ultimate boys dream alone, although I doubt it'll leave you with much to think about afterwards.

I agree with for the most apart except I think Gibsons sacrifice for no reason is the parrallel to Iraq and its troops basically dying for no reason...

I really liked how it showed the fact that society is rotten in its core before it submits to external forces in this case them Spanish sissies...

  12. Yup I buy the title...Whislt I prefer X-Force/X-Statix as if it were my own son...I am enjoying this title...better than most X-crap Marvel push out in droves?

Any thoughts on Mike Careys X-run? I havent read any of it...

  13. Just started season three of The Wire and it's a bit of a shock to the system - after two seasons of slow build-ups (in season two, the wire itself didn't even turn up until episode eight), jumping in mid-case is a bit disorientating. Still, the return to the projects is promising, since the three-way split of docks/cops/projects in season two was a little uncomfortable. And hopefully starting mid-story means that the season's pacing will be a little tighter than its predecessor, which occasionally felt flabby and repetitive.

Currently addicted to THE WIRE....Watching Season 1 right now and man is it good...The hardwork and determination of making a case man....somebody tell me Barksdale goes down right? What do they do in the later seasons more of the same of invert the formula on its head...

Don't want to spoil the end of season one for you, but basically each season is a case unto itself, with several continuing plot threads. From what I've seen, they don't follow the same 'formula' or plot beats. Season one is about drug dealers in the projects; season two goes down to the docks and shows us where the supply comes from; season three returns to the projects and shows how they connect up to those in a position of power; season four looks at how and why kids grow up to be career criminals; and season five - which is being written at the moment, I think - will look at the media.

Thanks for the explanation, man...All interesting angles each season...THE WIRE airs tonight I think its episode 5 or 6...basically we left off with cloned beepers and now I think they are about to hit the Wire...

    top notch stuff...

Just finished Episode 2 of DEXTER....CROCODILE...

Man Im addicted to this show...Nothing sucks about this...The main actor is insanelly talented and the story is pretty gripping...I have to hunt the novel this is based on...

  14. Okay um who wrote Perfume?!?

And also will anyone make Glamorama or Less Than Zero into a flick....?

Less than Zero was made into a bad film in the eighties. Very "Just Say No", as if the book was about drug problems. (Drugs in the book were a symptom, not the problem itself!)

No one needs to make a Glamorama film becasue Zoolander was close enough. Supposedly, though, Roger Avery (The guy who wrote and directed the Rules of Attraction movie) is planning on doing Glamorama, with the same actor playing Victor as in Rules.

Yeah I heard that somewhere Kip Pardue would be Victor in Glamorama movie...

Still funny to think of Victors road-trip around Europe...

Jay, how can you draw comparisons between Glamorama and Zoolander (a lot more comedic I would guess I havent seen it...) Are they similiar in themes?

Currently half-way into John Shirleys HELLBLAZER: WARLORD book...not what I hoped for but Im making the best of it...like the explanation for Keanu Version of the flicks...

  15. Joss Whedon no longer involved in the making of the Wonder Woman flick.

David Goyer likewise with The Flash

So essentially that means the WONDER WOMAN flick is less likely to be good and um the Flash is more likely to be....hm....not thats it I have nothing here....

Just watched THE PRESTIGE this weekend...

To be honest Im a tad disappointed....I enjoyed the film but was...anxiouslly wating for something....some....awe inspiring...twist/reveal Prestige if you will...but alas now....

    Still It had its moments

Question um can like anyone actually decipher Bowies accent in the movie...I dont know about the rest of you but I was laughing out loud when he spoke....

  16. No there has only been one season of 12 episodes so far but a second season will be produced as the first was pretty successful.

Damn fucking good series it is too. I love the concept so I was sold on it before I even saw the first episode but it more than lived up to my expectations. Fantastically acted and shot. Definitely one of the best pieces of telly of 2006.

So you've discovered both The Wire and Dexter at the same time. Fuck they are going to just ruin the rest of what you see on television as very very little can compare.

Heh. Heh..yup probably,Inca...Glad to hear it was picked up for a second season...what really impressed me was the concept its pretty risky to say the least having your protagonist be a serial killer (then turn him into a like-able character) by killing serial-killers who escaped justice...

Counting down the days until March 27 ( SHIELD SEASON 5 released on DVD )

    52

Yeah, that conversation with Aquaman was sort of confusing, but I thought it was neat that they went to Atlantis in search of the origins of magic.

I for one also dont get how Ralph didnt recognize Aquaman maybe magic I dont know.

Secondly it looks like maybe Charlie is going to make it in Nanda Parbat...but Montoya should still become the next Question...

These missing 52 seconds is definitelly something I want to see pay off...

Anyone else want to see T.O.MORROW get out of this series and star in another book...his just so freaking above anyone else...the metal men should be back soon...Im not sure about this "invisible/never there"

    fourth Horsemen...hm...

I for one wont buy WW3 mini series...it doesnt appeal to me and really Im sure the broadstrokes will be covered in 52...

The Jake reveal was a favorite moment so far in the series...

Looking forward to the fall of Luthor and the tragic downfall of Black Adam...

  17. just read perfume what an awesome book

Isnt that the book that just got made into a movie by TOM TYWKER (spelling) of RUN LOLA RUN fame?

I think it stars Dustin Hoffman...? I hear the film is very good....

Back to Scanner still searching the book stores for it I really want to compare both texts...

Such a sad nihilistic ending in the flick...

I for one enjoyed Avery's film adaptation now I will get a chance to see what he left out...and mucked up if at all....
