Well now, Hellblazer naturally, Transmet, Preacher, Sandman, Lazarus Churchyard, etc. I’m sure you get the picture. I am also an amateur artist, writer, and seamstress. I am occasionally roped back into small-time professional make-up artistry, mostly under-funded theater and indie film. I love to read, primarily sci-fi/fantasy, and random texts on mysticism, alchemy, gnosticism, psychology, the English language, and nautical history. I absolutely adore an interesting conversation, have been known to be a bit of a karaoke junky, and solidly enjoy getting quite thoroughly beschwipst with friends.

Really? Oh god, I hope so. I hope he gets a better artist though. The traded issues 1-6 with J. H. Williams III were knock out stellar, but I've just read issues 7 & 8 with Danijel Zezelj on art, and I must say that while good, they do not live up to Williams' work. In any case, I am elated to hear that Ellis may be getting back to poor old tortured Jones. 7 & 8 (supposedly parts 1&2 of 6) were out in 2006, so I was assuming we'd never see the end to that arc.

I really hope John isn't dumb enough to but if things did go that way, I think it would begin to look a bit too much like a medieval comedy, and we all know only the medieval dramas were actually funny.

Sigh. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised either, but still.... Bastard!

Doh! Stupid me. Ah well. Sadly, I had no idea what it was when I bought it. The cover was interesting, the art was appealing, Chief & I both like Warren Ellis, and it looked like something Chief would like. Amusingly, when I found it, I had gone into a shop I didn't even know sold comics, looking for classy smut for Chief's birthday. No worries. The smut was there too.

I've a question I wasn't sure where to put, but as it pertains to a comic I've recently read, here it is. I picked up a TPB of Desolation Jones, which I now feel a bit sheepish about. It was meant to be a birthday gift for Chief, as it looked like it might be up his ally, which it was. Thing is it turned out to be even more up mine, which makes me feel selfish instead of giving. Oops. In any case, the TPB collects issues 1-6. I have heard rumors that there are at least a 7 and 8, but that they are not available in the US. Is this true? If so, anyone know how I can get my greedy little hands on them?

    Hellblazer #256

Too true. Actually, I think it's the art. I got spoiled by all the subtlety and eye-acting in Manco's stuff. (Well, OK, his earlier stuff.) In no way do I mean to belittle writers at all, I have a deep respect for them, but in this context, if it wasn't for the artist we'd just be reading a script. Scripts are all well and good, but they are not finished pieces. It is just as important for a comic book artist to bring something more to the characters as it is for the actors to do the same for a screenplay. I think that's why I've been feeling like John's been falling a bit flat lately. To be honest though, I re-read this issue on my way back from work this morning, and I did find it more enjoyable the second time around. Mostly I found the writing more enjoyable, soooo... I suppose my major issue is with the art.

    Hellblazer #256

I'm afraid I was disappointed again. I wouldn't say it was horrible or anything, but it didn't really pull me in either. For one thing, it went where I thought it would, which I wasn't crazy about in the first place. That being the case, the story so far is pretty predictable, but I am still holding out hope for some unexpected plot twists later on. For example, I am wondering if The stuff with Julian is much more fun, and I am looking forward to finding out how John deals with We shall see. Over all though, it's just missing something that the first story had. Scab felt more alive. I can't quite put my finger on it. John seems kind of flat lately. As for the art, I too liked the cover, but I'm still not crazy about the interior. Over all I think I'll give this issue a 6.

    Need 10 Hellblazer issues

Portland has a good collection of comic shops, what with Darkhorse being located around here. I'll let you know if I see anything, but I must warn you that I don't drive and I'm horribly broke, so I'm not sure how soon it would be.

Really? John's selling his soul again? Who even owns that at this point? Are they taking out shares? Should we be watching the stock market? As a side note, I actually kind of like this cover, and continuing on the theme of addiction, I am looking forward to reading the issue. Although I'm not getting my hopes up.

    Hellblazer #255

I was really disappointed with this issue. It seamed like a decent enough idea badly done. I am hoping this is simply due to a rush job and will not be characteristic. The whole thing just felt really dead, or at least like an unfinished rough draft. I didn't even really feel like John was in the too few scenes that were supposed to include him. It was like he had a stand in or something. Mostly disappointing because I really liked the scab story. I too think I know where this is going, and am not too overly thrilled with the idea, but anything can be fun if done well, so I'll stick in there. The art has got to be the worst aspect of this issue. I don't think this artist is a very good actor. I mean, technically everything is good, even if I may not be that crazy about the style, but the poses and expressions just sort of feel 'stock'. It tells the story adequately, but doesn't do even the tiniest bit more. Again, no life, no flavor, except ironically on the cover. Thankfully that at least was worth the three bucks. I think I'd have to give this a 4 bumped up to a 5 by the cover.

The tragic loss of Stevhan Gobble

I am so very sorry. That is just horrible. I'm so glad it helps to know he touched so many people. I wish there were more we could do. Sometimes it helps to talk about the one you've lost. If you haven't already, it might help for you, your wife, and the rest of the family to tell each other stories about him.

What KLIMT drew this cover ?

Completely agreed. I think it's horrid. I will admit it is decidedly better than the abs of steel cover, and even go so far as to say that the composition is interesting, but the execution of that idea is simply atrocious. And yes, the nipple is irksomely placed.

The "OMG! John Constantine is so hot!" thread

Well, as I said, I don't mind John looking good, but the attraction is mostly a personality thing. That, and I'm a sucker for trouble. I propose a poll! 'How hot is John?' Can we add one to a thread already started?

Yes, I miss Manco too. You'll notice most of the pics I posted were either Manco or Bradstreet. Sigh.

Hmm. I'm wondering if I should change my avatar to Carry dowsed in blood with the tag line "They're all gonna laugh at you!" Alright, I'm sure you were joking, but you asked for it. And of course, Actually, there are far move than that, but it would take me a while to track them down, and I think I've been sufficiently annoying. Think I'll throw in a joke panel too and call it good. There. Careful what you wish for.
