“THE POISON TRUTH” part 2! No one likes rejection-least of all John Constantine. But even if three’s a crowd, he’s going to find a way to get involved in Swamp Thing’s hunt for Abigail Arcane!

I didn't much care for this.

I started to think I was still reading the last incarnation, what will all the verbose dialogue, and the plot moving nowhere. At least the dialogue was better than in the last incarnation.

I don't really like this version of John Constantine. We're getting too close to Oliver's idea of John from the hideous Chas mini-series, that John is an asshole who just uses poor, naïve Chas. John and Chas are actually supposed to be friends. I wouldn't really mind the idea of John being an utter bastard who tries to hide that fact....but, it doesn't really seem to mesh with the plot. I wouldn't mind a series where John just went around screwing everyone over and treating everyone like crap, and that was the whole series.

I don't care about seeing the old supporting cast. Outside of Chas, I could take or leave any of them, and I wasn't ever looking forward to their return.

I'll give it a 5. At this point, I don't care about the series again, although it's not the most horrible thing I've read either (still beats the last two series by a fair bit).

Geez. DC really did no favours for this book by having it ship the same week as that new Garth Ennis project. I picked up that issue too, and I'd much rather be reading that book with John Constantine than this one! That was a great use of John. If you're just going to wallow in nostalgia...

"You might remember me from actually good stories like The Horrorist or The Family Man." Damn straight!

Class act for Ennis, I think, namedropping Delano's stories rather than his own. His take on John's Post-Vertigo career was extremely inspired, not something I would've thought of but now I just can't get it out of my mind.

Anyways, regarding this issue, I gave it a six. There were some nice moments and dialogue though I didn't like it as much as #1, but still found it a better read than the clumsy Rebirth issue. Though it is moving slow, I'm interested to see just how the various plot threads converge in the next issues.

I congratulate them. The second issue successfully hooked my interest. Characterization was just enough, I was thoroughly amused and surprise, surprise, the plot actually went somewhere.I liked that there were old familiar faces, familiar scenarios ,and I'm interested in the events coming forth. (no spoilers). There was nothing in this story that made mecringe,so I can safely say I'll stick around for a bit to see where this goes.I have a spark of hope.

Also,I'm glad they didn't butcher john's characterization--let's see what happens.

Not that we're setting the bar low or anything...!

I've got real problems with a young sexy Clarice. I don't cotton to that at all. She works much better as a creepy old lady in my opinion.

As far as the rest of it goes, it was just fine.

Yeah, I actually felt a little disgusted with myself for kind of fancying her...!

42 in a couple of months John, c'mon man.

I put her younger look down as a perk of her new leadership role of the Tate Club though as it's technically a different continuity maybe she's just young.

I thought she's badly drawn but you can see wrinkles at the back of her neck and arms.

I quite liked the continuity of characters being so clearly Hellblazer but with fuzzy edges.

Lets hope the Annual has the Three Johns meeting at some nexus or other.

Some of the panels would be a delight to annotate. Eg orbital comics.

I noticed the wrinkles too. She's still our Clarice but with some kind of age like whatevertheshit going on.

Now Oliver can wheel out either Dani, Angie, or Kev to round off the character return mambo and top it off with the return of Cheryl and Gemma (with Tony staying dead in this continuity).

Oh, and Tefé. I mean why not since the tree tat and how John got it via Swampy's maintained so her existence is bound to pop up

Let's not forget Jacko the ghost, and the long-awaited return of Anthea and Sarah, all from Hold Me! Any minor characters they can dredge up.

And Mange must have had a family

Got to that bit in Mike's run over the weekend, the trauma of it all must have wiped it from my memory cause it got a shocked gasp second time round!

Merc, John and Chas don't look their age, why the hell should Clarice?

^ That.

This issue (and in hindsight, issue 1) felt like it was treading water. Get a story, for fuck's sake.

I don't think those were wrinkles on Clarice's neck. Not age-related wrinkles, anyway. She's got some sort of knobby spine, like a Star Trek alien's forehead.
