If Bill Gates did this, I think we'd all forgive him for Windows XP. Mostly. What's the betting it'll have a better budget than script?

I'd say that is a given. Lots of great effects with no storyline. Isn't that how you get Tom Cruise to star in your movie?

I dont really know how you can compare a budget with a script as the metric for a budget is money and the metric for a good script abstract concept, but anyways...

IMO Tom Cruise would make a brilliant Tony Stark/Iron Man, he may be mental but the man makes exceedingly good popcorn flicks.

I would definately go with Tom Cruise as Tony Stark. He was made to play the part (well, if you ignore the fact that he's a Scientologist, but that's his real life, not his acting career).

They originally name dropped Tom Cruise, but quickly went with Leonardo DiCaprio, who is all sorts of wrong for the role. Thankfully, it seems the common sense won out in this case!

As far as the script, it's a Marvel Comics movie! What the hell do you expect?! Who goes to see a superhero movie called Iron Man to see something along the lines of "Gods & Monsters"?!

The whole point of Iron Man is that he's got a cool suit he uses to blow things up that threaten Capitalism, and there's some angst thrown in due to his health issues.

The only issues of the "Iron Man" comic that tried to be anything but the above were discussions about the evils of Communism or Tony's battle with alcoholism (which was an amazing story-line, but you know Marvel is not going to use for their superhero action movie!).

So, if you want an in-depth serious plot, most likely you're going to end up with a sobering message about Sept. 11th, 2001.

So, let's all pray it's a movie carried by special effects!

I just wonder who they are going to use as their villain? All of Iron Man's villains are dated....Mandarin, Titanium Man, Crimson Dynamo, Unicorn....there's the Melter, but Marvel hasn't treated him seriously since 1970!

They'd never do it, but I think it should be Mallen, of Warren Ellis's conception.

But that would be too serious and intelligent. Expect casino scenes with a bodacious bimbo on each arm....

It is the Mandarin?

I wonder how this is going to work.

Mandarin is something of a stereotype and when he was first introduced, he was quite simply, a racist caricature.

If they made Mandarin the head of a rival corporation, it could work, although it would still prey too much on the fear of Far East Capitalist competitors for my tastes.

Hmm, I could see Mandarin as a copration rival myself, that's the only way I can see it working too. I'm not a huge Iron Man fan, but I really enjoyed the series, and I hope this movie will turn out well.

I can actually see Ken Watanabe playing Mandarin.

And call me weird, but for years I've always thought Tony Stark was Hispanic, not Caucasion. It was until last year that I actually found this out. When I revealed it to my friends also (some comic fans, some not), they were as shocked as me, lol. So I can only see Tony Starks being played by an Hispanic actor, or maybe even Oded Ofer...

It's the moustache. Though he could also be an Italian - "Antonio" Tony Starciatello, Stark for short.

Please don't let this happen...it's going to be another Hollywood cock up.

On screen Mandarin's like the worst to use.

Magic vs Science wont work well on screen.

I think it can work. I can actually see it working. Just think of it like an X-Men movie. The mutant powers were magic while the bullets and missiles were science  could work...

And I can imagine some heavy telekinetic punching adding dents and holes to the Iron Man suit.

If they drop the whole "Mandarin" moniker it could work, but I don't remember Mandarin ever getting a proper name in the comics, because well, he's Chinese....that says enough, doesn't it Marvel?

Move Mandarin to the United States as a business rival (Obadiah Stane?) and have him use black magic as a way to get ahead in his business dealings (Satan?).

Magic vs. technology.

OK. Actually, it doesn't sound all that promising.

Ladies and gents, presenting Ms Scratch :) She won't be staying too long

Back on the subject, good casting if true I think, although Tom Cruise seemed to be the fan favourite for it...

Tom doesnt have the build for it though; he's a prune... I'd say Hugh Jackman would be the better bet, though he's already tied up n taken w/in the other Marvel.
