Transformers: More than Meets the Eye

Recommended Posts

Any of you have the last TRANSFORMERS movie, starring Orson Welles, Leonard Nimoy, Scatman Caruthers, Judd Nelson, Eric Idle, et al?

I have it on DVD :).

Some news:

- Bumblebee will be a yellow Chevrolet Camaro. First an old one, and then a new model.

- They're shooting at the White Sands Missile range and in the Holloman Air Force, both in New Mexico.

- Autobots in the movie: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ratchet and Ironhide.

- Decepticons: Megatron, Starscream, Brawl, Bonecrusher, Barricade, Scorpono, Frenzy and Blackout.

- For "size problems" Megatron doesn't transform in a pistol.. he does in a black jet.. and, by the way he looks like THIS.

- Optimus will be more like the Transformers Armada one.

- Bonecrusher is now a combat tank.

I read all this in a magazine. All seems to be true.

What a bunch of CRAP.

Pray that assholes like this never do a live-action G.I. Joe movie.

The guy who posted the pics summed up Megatron's look perfectly:

I absolutely hate it as a Transformer design, but love it as the alien rapist in an anime porn. It's way too much. If only these designers could strike some kind of balance between updated modern looks, classic design and alien rapist.

I think the design looks cool for some other non-Transformers character, but it's all wrong for Megatron. I wonder how drastically different the other character designs will be..?

Let's face it, if this movie features Megatron, there honestly isn't a way I could be TOTALLY disappointed :D

Now it features an alien rapist!

What do you think now?

I think the same.. not for Megatron indeed.

There are some more sketches of the characters in one of those links.

I think I regret my earlier words. But then again, I'd say that it looks like it will feature Megatron in much the same way as "Constanteen" featured John Constantine...:D

i'd take any concepts that come out with a pinch of salt, none of you know the context of that megatron drawing or even if its authentic and you're already moaning about it.

I read all this in a magazine. All seems to be true.

yeah right, because paper publications are always dead on.

i'm trying to avoid all this crap because the uproar from the fanboy camp is already deafening, and wouldn't it be nice for once to be surprised by the design choices taken and to go into a film without preconceptions.

Surely the point of the film - as with the cartoon - is that they're alien machines that come to Earth and change their form to fit in? So, judging by the "Alien Plane" tag on the Megatron design, all you're seeing there is the pre-Earth Megatron.

And hardcore Transformers fans are mental, so I wouldn't listen too much to them.

I'm not mental, just nostalgic.

(That is, I know Transformers are shit, but I loved them when I was about 9)

Then you're not HARDCORE. Which means you don't treat Optimus Prime as some kind of long-lost father figure or something.

No, but for the photos that I've seen that's what I thought. Anyway, I was just putting here some things that I've found, I don't know if it's really true or not and I don't care.

If you ask me I really give a shit about Transformers, and about this movie.

Right, but you're forgetting who the creatives are behind all this.

Two words that should inspire a sense of dread into anyone with a brain: Michael Bay.

why do you need a brain to watch the transformers movie? what everyone seems to forget is that Shakepear didnt write the lines of dialog for Optimus Prime.

big explosions, big robots, big action, three things i think Micheal Bay could actually pull off, the problem with Pearl Harbour was the acting not the action.

What Kejoxen said. There's far too much being read into the (preliminary, unconfirmed) design posted, and to be honest, I can't think of a better director for a Transformers movie - if such a thing really needs to be made at all - than Michael Bay. Big, dumb, vacuous action with spectacular visuals and huge explosions, but absolutely no depth - sounds about right to me. Who'd you prefer, Trace - David Lynch?

Thanks Mark. I'm now having horrible, horrible visions of a David Lynch version of Transformers...

Nonsense and poppycock!

I loathe Michael Bay like I loathe gonorrhea.

And don't be silly, David Lynch? Just 'cause I don't want Bay on the flick doesn't mean I want an abstract expressionist filmmaker.

I'm thinking someone along the lines of a Gore Verbinski---- a director who can craft a film full of suspense, action, effects, and who can get the most out of his actors.

Just about anyone can do explosions, so why settle for Bay who can only do explosions? His camera-work and shot compositions are awful to boot.

Just because most of the characters are robots doesn't mean they can't have emotions or be anthropomorphisized. Plus, there are human characters that befriend the Autobots and aid the Decepticons--- I'd rather they turn in strong performances to give the movie some depth.

The funny thing about this discussion is that I'm not even a huge Transformers fan, I just really, really hate Michael Bay.

And Shakespeare's overrated by the by.

i really think you should stop taking it so personally, loathe Michael Bay? what has he actually done that so awfully bad? the man makes pop corn films, and what Transformers is with out a shadow of a doubt is a popcorn film. No body wants robots that cry and hug and get in touch with thier feelings.

I couldn't bring myself to be worried about any choice of director provided it wasnt Uwe Boll. Never mind the fact that the only reason this is getting made is because Bay picked it up.

You can keep pushing for your Steel Magnolias version of Transformers if you want but i for one am willing to leaving this in the hands of a competent director who is working in his element.

Oh, poor choice. Very, very poor choice. Verbinsky? Really? Because aside from a film-salvaging turn from Johnny Depp and the innate coolness of pirates, I'd rate Bad Boys and The Rock several leagues above either the Pirates Of The Caribbean films or The Ring remake in terms of pacing, visual style, getting-the-most-out-of-actors-ness, and general all-round popcorn-munching aceness. And I'm not overly fond of Bay, either.

James speaks the truth. The Rock is absolutely awesome. While I love Pirates, it would be nothing without Johnny Depp. Jack Sparrow makes both those films.
