Tezuka's Buddha

Recommended Posts

It cost me an arm and a leg, but I now have the whole Buddha series by Osamu Tezuka complete now. I got the first four parts for my birthday, and spent nearly a hundred bucks getting the final four hardcovers last week. I had to read them in go (despite it coming to something like 3000 pages in total), it just captivated me. Tezuka basically takes the life story of Buddha and translates it into a epic comic book saga in which he mixes the real life story of Buddha with a whole bunch of characters and situations he madeup. it works like a charm. I've rarely read a book (well, bunch of books) that are as uplifting, funny and saddening, usually within the space of a few pages.

stunning, stunning stuff. recommended for everyone who reads comics.
