Thoughts?

Christian, when and why had Warpath (the second) kidnapped Xavier before?

Did he blame him for his brothers death?

Brubaker's first issue has left me as of yet undecided, but as there is apparently another issue this month, I shall reserve my judgement till then.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Carey's two issues even more myself, possibly on the strength of his X-Men team.

Not a fan of the now very mutated style of Bachalo though.

I never thought that I would be collecting both X-Men titles monthly.

Christ, what's next?

Spawn?

I think Spawn is getting cancelled by the end of the year....

I wasn't all that impressed by Brubaker's first issue, but it was just a first issue.

His "X-Men:Deadly Genesis" mini-series didn't impress me either, and this story is spun off of that.

This isn't an area of X-mythos I'm particularly interested in seeing explored again, especially for an entire year! The Shiar have been completely worn out over the years.

The Shiar story-lines have always been very peripheral to the purpose of the X-Men, just thrown in there because Chris Claremont loves space opera plots.

I'm looking forward to Mike Carey's run much more! He's using Mr. Sinister!

Warbird was originally a member of the White Queen's "school for special youngsters" Hellions (her answer to the X-Men).

He joined the school and kidnapped Prof. X because he blamed Xavier for the death of his brother.

Who told you that spawn was getting cancelled by the end of the year?

If anything it shouldv been cancelled at #100. I know it sells pretty decently enough to keep the boat afloat. But still from what people tell me. Is that it's very confusing and annoying right now.

Not to mention that it's one the of only founding Images titles still going besides Savage Dragon.

I stopped buying Spawn with #101.

It became unbearable after #100.

Not even sure why I was buying it by that point!

I'm not sure how good the sales are. I thought they had been falling fast since before issue #100.

I'm not positive Spawn is being cancelled. I read something in the Previews about Apocalpyse, war between Heaven & Hell reaching a climax, Spawn down to 1 power bar....blah, blah, blah....

It just sounded like the solicitations for the final story-arc, but it might not be.

You do realize that Spawn has been trying to stop the apoclypse from day one, and that he's lost and gaines his powers soo many times it's not even funny.

Yeah. I was just thinking that they were finally going to kill the book off.

Reusing the same plot they used in issue #20 at this point is getting ridiculous.

They have to finally end the thing eventually.

I doubt Todd would allow that. It's one of the only ties he has with the Industry.

I'm even suprised that Savage Dragon is still going. Both that and Spawn were like the founding titles that started Image.

I think Spawn shouldv ended with like #100 or something. I did read that Todd wants it to go to atleast the 300's or something. But who knows. With what I read is that #200 is suposedly the Big ending to the Apocalypse deal. But I think by now, nobody gives a shit.

I havent picked up my comics yet to check out Brubakers Uncanny. But I have faith in him. He's done wonders to Daredevil.

Yeah, he's wonderful with D.D.!

Not so good with X-Men though, it seems....

Brubaker seems like a modern day Frank Miller in a lot of ways. At his best when he's doing grim 'n' gritty, street-level stories.

Characters like Batman or Daredevil or P.I.s

Usually grim and gritty type stories are his main thing. I'll give him a few issues.

I'm sorry to derail this thread even further with more Spawn wankery but if Todd wants to save that title he needs to move on from Al Simmons mythos and start focusing on some of the other Spawns throughout time (Mandarin Spawn, Zombie Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn, Viking Spawn, etc).

Hell, maybe even make it an anthology with rotating artists and writers. I guess that was what Curse of the Spawn was supposed to be. That said, get Mike Carey or Ed Brubaker to write that and I'll pick it up. X Men? No.

X-Men #188 (Mike Carey's first issue)-

Wow! That art is all wrong, isn't it?!

Well, it's not Peter Milligan....for a lot of people, that's a good thing.

It's still really good. Looks like it'll be better than Brubaker's Uncanny. I'm going out on a limb and saying Carey's run is going to rank right after Morrison and Milligan as the only readable X-Men comic post-original Claremont.

Not sure what all's happening, but it's part 1 of 6, so lots of time. I think Carey has paved a good mystery, with lots of action going on in this first part.

I dunno, I actually enjoyed Bru's first issue much better. The story didn't really grab me at all and the art was just horrid and a bit of a pain to look at. I hope Carey doesn't disappoint, because altho I consider him probably my fav HB writer, his Ultimate X-Men/Fantastic 4 crossover was terrible...

(I'm also a Mr. Sinister fan, and I think Carey will provide the story featuring him that I haven't gotten since he was introduced. He's almost always mishandled. Same with Apocalypse--- though I know you'll defend Milligan's attempt at him.)

Personally, I think Apocalypse is a poor character.

I liked Milligan's raving lunatic who sounds perfectly sane and reasonable in his own head version, because really Milligan was pointing out everything wrong with Apocalypse which other writer's try to play straight.

Apocalypse is a lot like Venom. He's a really cool concept character, but there's nothing to do with him in a plot.

Mr. Sinister though is a character with tons of untapped potential. I've loved him almost since he was introduced.

A really good, creepy villain for the X-Men to fight. Second only to Magneto, in terms of themes Sinister represents, I think.

Besides that "Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix" mini-series (hey! That was written by Milligan!), which had Sinister's origins, no writer has really grasped what is possible with Sinister.

MORE TRUTH.

Christian, you are my guiding light in the turbulent waters that are the X-Men.

Edit: I picked up XM #188 and read it last night. Horrible. Overwhelmingly due to Bachalo's shitty art. His style has gotten so graffitti-cartoony that it's almost impossible to tell what the hell's going on in action sequences. And just in terms of flow, composition, framing, and plot clarity his visual storytelling is downright awful.

Carey deserves better. His half of the book I really don't have any major gripes with. I like his dialogue and the fact that he made Rogue an interesting character for the first time since she showed up 25 years ago. And his lineup is sweet.

Christ more truth than I can handle in one thread!

I need the boys down in crytography to work out what the hell is visually going on in that issue!

I was sitting in Nero and reading, when I realized that I had been sitting there for a good 10 to 15 minutes in a dazed Bachalo caused state.

I was comic blind.

Imagine if Marvel did another one of those Nuff Said dialogueless issues again.

This issue would be well and truly fucked.

The art empahasis are peculiar.

Take Rogue, cyclops and Emma being chucked out of the window.

It took me a long time to work out that they were infact Emma and Cyclops.

Carey's bits were great (sorry).

This should shape up better.

Glad we'll be getting another one this month.

Holy hell!

'Nuff Said month as done by Chris Bachalo! Genius!

Marvel's solicitations,

"We dared to do it once before, and only 3 of the books made any sense whatsoever! Dare we do it again? You bet we do, because we're Marvel, a company built on the premise that a company can make as many stupid decisions as possible and yet still be a success! This year, we've upped the ante a little more. You see, we, the editors, got drunk one night and started making dares to each other. One of the editors suggested we fire all our top writers and replace them with Chuck Austen. We're considering it. The other dare was to redo 'Nuff Said Month, but this time only use Chris Bachalo art! We thought it was genius and has the potential to be the most incomprehensible comics ever created in this industry, and that's covering a lot of ground, folks! So, be aware Marvelites, November is 'What the hell did Chris Bachalo just draw?! No idea! 'Nuff Said' Month here at Merry Marvel! Don't miss it, because you have no idea what you'll be missing, and frankly, we're not exactly sure what it is you'd be missing either! There's a leg over here....and a head over here....and what the hell is that down there....."

Lets not forget Marvel favourite Daniel Way.
