Talking to a snake made of socks - Alan Moore

Recommended Posts

I can't.

On a related note; I just re-read the entirety (well, until they stopped publishing anyway) of Marvel/Miracleman.

I definitely prefer Gaiman's run on the whole. Obviously without Moore's run there'd be no Gaiman run but it's peppered with some of the worst displays of flowery expostition I've ever come across and Gaiman does a much better job of juxtaposing the humand and the superhuman.

The thing to remember is that Alan Moore did the groundbreaking work on Miracleman (also significant for many misguided folks with superhero titles that have tried to emulate him) and Neil Gaiman merely came in, already a superstar, ten years later - after Moore's run was repackaged for the US market.

Having said that, I also prefer Gaiman's run and Todd MacFarlane can fuck right off for queering the pitch on us seeing the end of that story any time soon.

Husamuddin, that torrent's deleted now. What was it? Exactly how offensive was it?

It was a Watchmen spoof by Rich Johnston where the crime fighters are lawyers who worked for the comic industry, it was mostly about creator rights, and how DC screwed Moore.

It ends with a thousand foot tall Alan Moore clone being teleported to the Watchmen premiere, resaulting in Marvel paying Jack Kirby's estate royalties for Hulk and soon, Len Wein for Wolverine, Rob Leifield gets Deadpool back etc.

Alan Moore is doing another signing at the comic shop where I go.

On the occasion of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 1910.

Is that the Gosh! signing? Aye, I got that email too.

Unfortunately I'll be driving my in-laws to the airport next Saturday.

So no early signed copy of LoEG for me. Bah!

I'm in.

Probably around 1:30 to 2 ish.

Said queue is likely to be crazy and a breeding ground for swine flu.

At the very least I owe Ade a pint.

However the book in question is a sadly only #1 of 3.

An 80 page issue nevertheless, but not a contained Black Dossier affair.

So next year for part #2 then?

"Musn't grumble"

I recall Moore saying that each issue would be self-contianed, though still part of an overarching arc.

A wicked thought.

Get someone with makeup skill to make you look fevered. Speak in Mexican accent. Cough and sneeze, saying " Basta, I fly to here for signing, Mr Moore, now sick, strange".

Line suddenly vanishes, you get to its head.

:)

When you meet him, what will you say?. I hear he doesn't like the whole comics-nerd overdose thing, but it would be hard not to tell him how much enjoyment he has given one.

Enthused by the prospect of League of Extraordinary Gentleman:Century parts 2 and 3, I predict Harry Potter (Or some barely legal equivalent, Tim Hunter notwithstanding) to be the

Moonchild

of 2008.

Who else could possbly fill up the League of 2008 of Part 3?

Rebus?

Buffy?

Jack Ryan?!

More excited to see Jack Carter in Part 2 than I was for Jimmy Bond.

I've ordered two - Matt, I hope you can take one as karmic payback for your 4 hour stint on the rickety spiral staircase?

Myself, I am going to see King Creosote that evening so I'd have to leave at 8pm.

That's a major find right there.

Big Numbers, from what I saw, was looking to be one of Moore's best projects. Even just reading #1 & 2 it ranks highly on my list.

I can't think of any comic that it's more disappointing that it was never completed.
