Yeah, I think they probably were....the current Moon Knight run being written by Jeff Lemire is really good. Best MK since the Doug Moench days of the early-1980s.

When it comes to comics, or fiction in general really, I like to invest myself in something that's going to be long-form. I don't think corporate owned comics lend themselves to that unless maybe you're reading something from a Bendis or Hickman as creative teams/titles tend to change/reboot/get canned every year or so. I'm glad Warren's sticking with Injection and Trees.

Three issues of Shipwreck have seen the light of day now. I'm really enjoying that one by Ellis, more than most work by Ellis I've read in quite a while. He's then launching the Wild Storm book at DC next month too.

Yep. This week. I almost missed it too. I have it on my pull-list, but they missed pulling it for me. Since you didn't see it in the "Comics Shipping...." thread, I didn't see it was being released either, so I didn't write it down on my list of comics I take to the store each week, to make sure I don't miss any books I want. I was getting ready to leave, when I happened to notice the cover. I asked, "Is this a re-order?". The store owner said, "No." I said, "I almost missed this!". Luckily, I did not. It's a good issue too. Some of the mystery is explained, but it's still quite surreal, and there's a character reading the story El Aleph by Borges in the comic too.

I think part of it is that it is on Aftershock, and with that being the only title I read from them I tend to overlook it.

Hope the Wildstorm thing turns out well, I have a lot of fondness for that particular universe - jumped on around Wildstorm Rising and stuck with most of the imprint right up past the buyout by DC.

Would be in on the ground floor for a new Wetworks!

Small excerpt from the The Wild Storm promo that's in this week's new DC books:

Looking at the redesigned Engineer, why do I have a sneaking suspicion that Warren watched just a little bit of Super Sentai and mecha anime while writing this relaunch?

Thanks for posting that - it looks and sounds like full on proper Ellis so I'm all in, I know I shouldn't but I lurve Grifter's big hoodie coat.

Keeping my fingers crossed that he has plans for Wetworks or, at the very least, Team 7.

looks suspect, sounds awesome

Looking at the character designs, he's obviously been standing behind Hunt with a club to make sure that nobody was drawn as an early '90s-looking superhero.

That approach wouldn't rule out a Team 7 or Wetworks relaunch, of course, but reading the publicity piece, though, as he's obviously more taken with the "enhanced spooks vs corporate superhumans" stuff that was the most interesting bit of the first couple of years' worth of Wildcats than anything else.

What would you say is the publication cycle of Karnak?

Asking for a friend.

Sixth and final issue came out last week.

#1 : 21/10/2015

#2 : 24/02/2016

#3 : 20/04/2016

#4 : 18/05/2016

#5 : 21/09/2016

#6 : 01/02/2017

It sounds like the artist went through some stuff over the course of the series, looking forward to reading the collected edition at some point.

i have bought desolation jones. (yeah im behind the curve)

i somewhat regret buying it in german, as it seems i have missed much of the joke with the pretend-to-be-english butler.

not quite through it yet, but a comic that starts with the mental image of pornstar adolf hitler... bravissimo

That series was amazing, but Ellis just left it uncompleted. He wrote half of the second story-arc, and decided to not go any further. That is a damn shame.

Transmet is fucking fantastic, loses its way a little in the middle but one of my all time favourite reads and (as gets said about anything with a political bent) it seems more relevant than ever in the times that we now find ourselves. If you have no time for Hunter S Thompson, or those who ape his style, you'll probably hate it though.

Desolation Jones was a masterpiece in the making, probably the last great thing written by Ellis. I bet he never, ever gets asked when the next issue of Doktor Sleepless is coming out...

Anyone remember Fell ? That was good. I'd read more of that.

Really didn't like the first issue of Trees but have been tempted to give it another go as its held Warren's interest and I am thirsty for a proper long form story from him. Have been enjoying his other ongoing series, Injection, quite a bit.

I'm sure I mentioned this before but when Ellis was over here to do the talk in that video, he tweeted a picture of himself sat alone in a beer garden. Recognised right away that it was my work regular (The Long Stone) but couldn't convince myself that it wouldn't be creepy/inappropriate to run across the road and bother him. For all the snarking I might do on him here I remain a massive fan of his work and am convinced that I'd regress to full on socially awkward nerd in his presence.

The Long Stone makes a very brief appearance in the first issue of Injection

that is awesome! You should have went over for a pint.

"hi...hi wozza..."

"grumble grumble"

"Um...do you like...stuff?"

I also thought the first 6 issues of his recent James Bond was awesome too. And come on, we only crack on him cause we care. It is with love.
