Picked up the two Trees trades on the cheap from Comixology, they're pretty good - wouldn't want to be reading month-to-month but it's very slowly going somewhere.

I did. It was much the same as the first issue but introduced Grifter (paranoid ex-spook turned corporate security specialist) and showed a bit of Voodoo's latest video which makes it obvious that she knows more about the big alien conspiracy than she should as an R&B singer*. Also there's a revelation about Deathblow straight out of the original run from the '90s.

*(I'm assuming: her appearance is based on the way Travis Charest drew her during Moore's run on Wildcats, so she's probably not doing the artsy goth, hipster indie or Japanese techno that Ellis usually namedrops when he talks about music...)

Yeah Issue 2 was a good continuation. Ended rather abruptly. Seems like it would make a better TPB

Injection 12 is out this week. I have not read the previous issue

It wasn't all as decompressed as that preview would have you believe though. Those were just the first couple of pages, then it got a bit more dense as the story progressed.

Have you read any Hunter S Thompson ? He's the obvious real world inspiration for Spider. I thought Transmet lost it's way a little around the middle but it was still never less than pretty good - one of my favourite ever fiction endings too.

i actually haven't. my brother is a big fan of his though and since i knew that hunter is the inspiration for spider, i had recommended the book to him.

he is a big fan of spider as well now :D

in some foreword morrison said that spider obviously looks like him, i mean there is a striking resemblance, but is there actual confirmation by ellis or robertson, or is that just morrisons ego talking out of his ass?

( on that note: can it be that mountain-spider in the beginning of the book is then based on moore in looks? )

I always thought he was supposed to look like darkest Fabulous Furry Freak Brother (Franklin?) before he gets his hair zapped, to be honest...

And, then, he was supposed to have been the future of John Constantine, according to Planetary. So, Alan Moore was meant to morph in to Grant Morrison who was meant to morph in to John Constantine who was meant to morph in to King Mob.

What a tangled web Ellis weaves.

Picked up a used copy of the trade collecting his entire Thunderbolts run at one of the local shops today. Probably dig into it soon.

I also enjoyed his reinvention of the Martian Manhunter concept in The Wild Storm #3 (took me longer than it should've to actually make the connection between the pictures and the word Manhunter):

I'm surprised someone like Ennis didn't think of this first.

Ennis would have made the Martian Manhunter gay rather than female, I'd have thought?

Ha, ha! I find that Ellis scene to be pretty funny.

Let's not forget that Milligan might have made him a Martian Underage Girl Hunter!

I really liked Ellis' Thunderbolts. That's a good find. It's very raw.

Read through a chunk of Ellis' Ultimate stuff recently (Armour Wars, Gal-Lak-Tus trilogy) and thought it was universally awful, just the absolute pits.
