Pandemonium (contains no pandas, but beware spoilers)

Recommended Posts

Don't worry, there's not much chance of my opinions gaining any weight round here. ;)

The letratone is funny because it was recently mentioned in the Sean Murphy thread that mechanical tone can't be expected to colour up well. You've posted proof that that's not the case.

i LOVE letratone! and thanks...

The book (Or at least the pages you've posted) seem to be colored in the Green / Yellow spectrum. I was wondering how you decide on those hues, i'm assuming it has something to do with the overall feel you're trying to create with the color pallet. ( I know this question doesn't make a lot of sense, but i'm curious, and i cannot figure out a way to ask any more clearly.)

i just try to have each scene and location have a certain hue... i think it helps clarify the story telling and add atmosphere.

there's some night blues in there later on, and there will be reds. i think it's just chance that the pages you've seen are those particular colours. tho i do like greens, i must admit... the calm before the storm.

I have a small question. What's the device over the M16*, in front of the telescope? I got a lot of photos of weapons for some drawings I'm doing for fun, and I've never seen that.

*or whatever its name is, m4 I think is more correct.

From stock to muzzle it looks to be a scope, a laser sight or flashlight, and the iron sights. Under the barrel is a grenade launcher.

ha, that was me. Just to defend myself a little: Jock's use of letratone is a lot less, well, cluttered than Sean Murphy's. That latest page os his Ade linked to has some really dark, tiny tones which will more than likely not work with the colouring. But I'd like to be proven wrong, really.

Anyway, that's all besides the point, cause Jock's art looks ACE.

It's not like there isn't plenty of precedent for coloured pages using mechanical tone looking splendid (the most obvious example I can think of would be Marshall Rodgers' wonderful use of zip-a-tone on his '70s Detective Comics run, but there are plenty of others which might be more obvious to someone who's less hung up on that run than I am), but I do see Sethos' point about those Murphy pages. They look splendid in black and white, but I'm having trouble visualising how some of them will work when coloured. Doesn't mean it couldn't be done well, of course, but it'll take a slightly more imaginative colouring job then we've generally been seeing on the monthly Hellblazer book for the last few(!) years. Here's hoping.

Jock, these pages look ace, as have all the previews you've given us so far. I'm perfectly OK with the delay, too, particularly if it means you're colouring the whole thing yourself - it's mildly annoying to have to wait, of course, but delays on standalone projects like this don't really bother me too much (it's not like I'm not used to waiting years on end for prose novels or CDs, after all). It's only when serialised story-telling gets fucked up by scheduling problems that I actually get annoyed, and that's not the case here, so no worries.

Jamie Delano was in Belgrade recently, so they did this piece on him (and Hellblazer) for the national TV :

It's in serbian, but the audio's fucked up enough that you can hear/understand Jamie talk. Also, you can hear/spot me.

And while I'm at it, here's that mile-long interview with Delano that i did a while back, but now i hope it has found its place online for some time to come, on a blog by one of Serbia's experts on all things horror :

Also, I've managed to get a preview copy of Pandemonium, and trust me, it's a return to form for Delano, a really good story, I had only one or two minor problems with it (though people who're more into continuity than me will probably find some serious issues regarding certain characters). So, here's an amateurish preview of the book, as shot by my crappy camera:

ooh look, there's enough there for all of us...:laugh:

Seriously, it'll be an honour to spend my hard-earned dosh on keeping you in luxury in order to read the book, I have the highest expectations of it and will probably have to sleep in my trenchcoat for a week before I calm down. (The last bit might not be so serious...)

Well, competition or not, I'm really looking forward to this one - I've been excited since it was first announced, and can't wait to finally get a copy. It looks like you've done a terrific job.

No competition ideas leap to mind, but I'll have a think about it. Obviously, something I'd have a good chance of winning would be tops... :hattip:

Looking forward to it here too, and have no qualms about shelling out cold hard cash either. But a free signed copy, won fair and square, is obviously better.

So, competition..... let me think: how about "Do you have a Gregory Peck avatar?"

Oh look, I win. Yay me.

Dude, that would be sweet! I have no ideas about a competition though. Maybe a worldwide King of Iron Fist tournament?

I've pre-ordered a copy on Amazon already.

I had some money from a gift card left over from Christmas, so took advantage.

I noticed Amazon has Jock listed as the sole creator.

As one of Jamie Delano's biggest admirers (not a secret one though) I was a bit aghast.
