IMDB listing for Constantine

Recommended Posts

I haven't really done any research but on the "Trivia" section of the IMDB Constantine page it says:

Although the movie Constantine is based on the comic book Hellblazer, the movie title was changed because it was too similar to Hellraiser. The comic book itself was actually meant to be called Hellraiser, but Clive Barker came up with the title first.

Now I'm a pretty avid Clive Barker fan, I've read most of his books and certainly seen all his movies, I own the entire Hellraise line of graphic novels, along with the Books of the Damned Hellraise Companion series as well and a few others thrown in for good measure.

My point is this statement seems to be in error (this is judging just from MY memory) but wasn't Hellblazer started in 1985...Hellraiser the movie was 1987 or 1988 and even that was based on a book by Barker called "The Hellbound Heart" but that wasn't a scary enough title for a horror flick so it got changed. If this is right (and I admit dates aren't my strong point....that's why I'm asking you guys) then HELLBLAZER had no compeition for the name HELLRAISER.

Just wondering.

That info you read is true.

Hellblazer started in Nov 1987 and was solicited the usual two or three months earlier under that name, Hellraiser was released in September 1987 and movies have a longer time in production.
