DCU rebirth

Recommended Posts

From the link: But the likes of Supergirl will be redesigned so they aren’t running around in a little skirt flashing their panties at every available opportunity either. Female superhero characters will have their legs covered.

What is this, the fucking Taliban? Should they all cover their faces too?

On another site I read that all Vertigo titles were exempt from the DCU reboot. Vertigo is still going to exist, right?

Vertigo is a creator-owned imprint now. It's totally seperate from the DCU, except Hellblazer.

It'll continue to publish stuff like Scalped and Northlanders.

You didn't really think Flashpoint was going to lead to a relaunch of Aaron's Scalped did you? Maybe with Super Chief taking the lead role? :boogie:

As far as redesigning Superman...remember the 1990s? The mullet. The glowing blue guy. Yeah...not fond memories.

As far as the skirt thing...I thought DC editors had already decided to move away from showing the up-skirt shots? I read some guys on some superhero web-site really complaining and moaning about P.C. femi-Nazis taking away the stupidest porn imaginable.

If all you've got to get off on is a panty shot on Supergirl every so often, you might as well just give up now.

In other news, male superheroes will dress only in black and white and have beards, but no mustaches.

The DCU is about piety and family values, not vulgarity.

Honestly, while DC needs to stay away from Morrison's continuity, I'm sort of a bit tired of Morrison on Batman comics. I really wouldn't mind seeing him take up another DC superhero. Don't get me wrong, Batman Inc. has been really good, but it seems like Batman is confining for Morrisonian ideas, even with the retro-Silver Age plots.

He would be excellent on a B-List hero wouldn't he. One that isn't all tied up with cross company continuity. He's already been there/done that with Animal Man of course, but i'd like to see it again with someone else frankly.

As to Morrison, we shall get our wish! I can't remember where I read it, but he will be writing Superman

That's a second tier as it gets!

Here a cover by Jock for one of the Batman reboots. Lovely thing really.

I don't like the Idea of Detective and Action re-starting at #1, but i do like that cover.

Seen that piece by Jock - it's, as expected, brilliant. Is he doing any interior work anywhere, or is he mostly doing covers now?

Also, from this cover I take it they'll be starting off their "new" Batman run with the Joker? Bold, though a bit... exploitative?

Azz on WW?! Looks like a fun trainwreck.

Also of interest to us - Deadman by Paul Jenkins.

When was the last time he did something for DC? Wasn't he Marvel exclusive? I remember he had some Two-Face miniseries with art by.... Jae Lee i think, a few years back?

Morrison on Superman could really be great. If it's more like All Star. Although, this would be a great opprotunity for them to do the New Gods with Morrison as writed.

Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis on Aquaman #1 - Way excited for this! I trust Johns to work his magic on this like he did Flash, Hawkman and Green Lantern

Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul on Flash #1 - Brian, who now?!?! Manapul!!! YES! Love his art

Tony Daniel and Philip Tan on Hawkman #1 - Hmmm, maybe. Guess we know Danie will not be on Batman. Weird design for Hawkman

Dan Jurgens and Aaron Lopresti on Justice League International #1 - HELL YES! Not sure about Booster's new suit. Also he looks to be the leader! nice.

I'll buy Morrison's Superman and check out Deadman but they can keep the rest, even Azz's Wonder Woman (he doesn't quite fit that title, does he?).

edit - from another forum

Also- Not sure if this is true or not but Jonathan Glapion posted this on his wall-

"First announcement of the day: I'll be joining Gregory Capullo on Batman. See you guys in Gotham, it's going to be one hell of a ride!"

Would love to see Greg Capullo's take on Batman!

Lou, floating around the internet there are some penciled pages and pencil & ink pages by Capullo of his Batman. IT IS SPECTACULAR!

Oh I don't doubt it. Not sure if i want to buy a book on art alone, that usually doesn't work out well. But damn.

How about Duane Swierczynski writing a Batman book? Yeah! They haven't said which one yet. Him and Jock could be awesome on Detective! But I'd miss Scott Snyder

I this true? I have to say i'm apprehensive about it, if so. He took over after Giffen/DeMatteis last go round and at the time I didn't think he did too good of a job. (Suddenly Ice was pining for Superman? WTF. That shit just came out of left field) still i'll keep an open mind and at least try it out.

I didn't read that part of the series. Besides, you'd rather have Winnick? :(

Jurgens has been doing great stuff on Booster Gold before and after the Giffen/DeMatteis run.

I've liked his Booster alright, but honestly, the Giffen/DeMatteis take was better. Mostly what i want from this book is for it to be fun. His last run on JLI wasn't. I'd have rather have seen Gail Simone on it to be than Jurgens. Who is that in the bottom left hand corner? Donna Troy or Black Canary? And no. I would not have been happy with Winnick, Generation Lost lost a lot of steam after he took it over.

I'm thinking Donna Troy. Just because there doesn't seem to be any bird element to her costume. Or maybe they are reversing it: black hair as Black Canary & blonde hair as Dinah

Yeah, I think that may have been his last work for DC.

He got very ill (don't know any details) after he went exclusive to Marvel, and took off for a few years.

I'm guessing he's not exclusive anymore.

He just came back to comics. He's writing the lead up to the next X-Men cross-over stuff right now, and he has a new Ka-Zar series coming out soon. That's been his first work since coming back.

I'm looking forward to what he can do with Deadman. I really like the character, but he's basically had no purpose since his original stories in the 1970s, well, there was the Mike Baron mini-series and a few guest-shots in some "mature readers" books, otherwise the character hasn't been tapped at all.

Wait. Someone actually gets excited about Jurgens?

Sure, he's not as bad as Winnick, but that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It's like, "Oh, yes! Tom DeFalco is on this book instead of Howard Mackie or Chuck Austen! Yes!".

I haven't read a great deal of Jurgens, but Marvel inexplicably kept him writing Thor for years when they first relaunched Thor after Heroes Reborn. It wasn't good. You kept hoping for a new writer. FF, IM, Avengers...they all had good creative teams (Busiek), or they mixed things up so you weren't stuck with a bad writer for long, but not Thor. The entire damn second series, just boring.

I would say it's less about Jurgens and more the JLI getting back together. To me his writing is just ok. Nothing great, nothing terrible. His best has been on Booster Gold. And yes, I too miss Giffen/DeMatteis on that book

And let's be fair, Tom DeFalco at least good enough to not be grouped with Chuck Austen.

I wasn't. I was saying he was a step up from the worst of the worst, but absolutely nothing to get excited about.

It's like setting your sights low, getting excited simply because you're not being stuck with the worst of the worst.

I grouped Austen, Mackie, and Winnick together as examples of the absolute worst (Daniel Ways can be on that list too).

Four GL titles?!?! NO! Two is fine. One with Hal Jordan & another focusing on the Corps. Just like now. Any more is a waste.

I love that vid Rogan! That started my day off nice. I find myself....sort of...agreeing with....Hitler....I guess?

"I'd rather read Wizard on my Nook"

"Why not just put a cape on Jonah Hex and have him kill Superman"

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

Well, to be fair, one will be the Rainbow corps and the other will be Kyle Rayner's Superpets.

But still, 5 of those announced 52 #1's are dedicated to GL-related stuff, I'm guessing Supes will have at least as many, and Bats even more than that. And there'll be 3-4 JL titles, so I'm already wondering how many books we'll lose.
