John Constantine, HELLBLAZER: The Concordance Hymnal

Recommended Posts

The TPB/GN Cover is the album cover for each set of tracks. Click on a cover and be aurally transported into the story via song. Each book cover is a separate playlist (though some covers have more than one volume included if the issue titles were Part 1, part 2, conclusion, etc., or in the case of "Pandemonium" and "All His Engines" which are single stories as GNs but no issue designation). Where track and issue titles don't match up, we used a track that would be thematically consistent with the HELLBLAZER Mythos (London, cigarettes, magic, etc). This will eventually span the entire HELLBLAZER series, or at least to issue #300.

This is quite an epic task and well compiled by our two keen compilers.

Some great music for people who like music.

Get clicking and listening folks.

Or I'll fall upon my own sword. It was a labor of love! Inspired by the awesome CD Ade made before I even joined this forum and part 2 which I was able to enjoy contemporarily. You see, it was his cd that caused me to notice that many, if not most, of the issue titles are the same as existing song titles. Especially Delano's and Ennis's runs. Si Spencer does it too, and even though we haven't gotten to him, yet, I expect Carey will be the same way. Azarello seldom named his isses, it was always 'Hard Time pt 2,' or 'Highwater conclusion'.

These aren't just dj setlists created at the whim of music snobs--we music snobs did a ton of research to match the songs to the titles. And when there was a glaring hole in the middle of one of the books, the gentleman, Ade, was there to offer the perfect missing Lego piece.

I will say the response on Facebook and here were exact opposite of what I expected (someone on Facebook called the effort beautiful). However, on behalf of myself and my cohorts, we are not seeking praise or thank you, Masked Mans. At some point, someone in possession of stellar music tastes, a copy of Fear & Loathing (or any of the others), will sit down to read it and remember the playlist for it. S/he'll click play as s/he opens to the first page, and if it makes the experience even slightly more fulfilling, then I say it was worth the painstaking hours and carpal tunnel, and me having to learn how to use Word. No praise or thanks, your smiles and foot taps to the rhythm will be quite enough.

Oh, I wish it was just me. Jef did much of it and Ade made key suggestions where they were most needed. We enjoyed doing it.

Thank you.

Somebody sent him a list of songs he left off the goth list so he said he'd add them. I think the list will double.

My favorite (another of the lists I contributed to) is Breathing Purple Trees, and the Sounds They Ate

I test drove it the other day with actual pizza toppings, and it got pretty heavy and melty.

I have learnt that we are about to produce a complete playlist of the lesser writers: Spencer, Aaron, Campbell, Macan, etc. (leasser only in that they wrote an issue or an arc, not because they suck, though that's subjective).

Stand by.

From a pure music loving perspective, the City of Demons/Newcastle Calling/Life During Wartime mix is the most enjoyable so far, thanks to the authors themselves. All we did was compile titles (except for Newcastle which was punk rock standards and Venus)

Nice, I may have a listen. For instance, I found out that I have only heard 20 seconds of Kate Bush in my life, which is apparently quite an achievement at my age.

I'm impressed! It would hav been even more awesome to have this as Spotify lists, but anyway: Sterling work.

Doing research, 8 tracks was the only site we could use where we decided all the content and could upload tracks that have dubious origins. Most sites are sticklers about ownership and usage and don't allow the user to upload tracks. We learned that halfway through our first Delano playlist. We could use 8 tracks and the downside is it makes you listen to the whole list before you can hear anything on it again, but the upside is we could post anything we wanted. Couldn't do that on Spotify because we had to go to a couple of Russian websites in order to allocate tracks that none of us had in our own collections. we tried to just use music we had but it made for less entertaining and way less musically broad playlists. Plus we could store the songs on 8tracks, and I'm not sure if you can upload tracks to Spotify? I honestly don't remember. 8 tracks ain't great, but it worked out the best for what we wanted to do.

OK, should we do a posthumous list? I think it should be a forum-wide effort.

If anyone has any suggestions, please put them here, and we'll do it one more time. Otherwise, we won't and it won't matter.
