It is like they don't understand capitalism, isn't it?.

Supply and demand.

For a thing that has a cumulative audience, if you don't meet the demand this month, there will be less next month, A = B.

So strange.

To be as fair as we can, the chain of stupidity goes:

Fancy covers > not filling orders > DCU 52 revamp > villains month

(How could such a crossover theme really be considered a new reader jumping on point?)

I can see cutting the large orders, but surely any shop should be allowed to order a few on top of their regular order?

I guess the DC "people in charge" realised too late that the idea was going to be too expensive.

Oh, aha. Is this partly motivated by the fact that comic shops can strip off the covers and send back copies they don't sell?. So the publishers carry the main cost?.

JH Williams & Blackman walk off Batwoman due to continued editorial interference, the most significant being they cannot show the marriage of Kate & Maggie.

Wow! DC just keeps fucking up left & right. I've not been buying this monthly, rather I've been trade waiting due to $ and the dip in quality, but it's always been a solid book & certainly the best looking book by DC.

Well that 3D cover thing turned out to be a right mess. I don't care for them, realy, but a friend wanted one.My guy got so few that they never even saw the shelf. Right to the con they go.

Think I'll avoid comic shops this week.

Might go to one while I am on holiday.

Anyway, meanwhile

http://www.newsarama.com/18869-the-new-52-two-years-later-the-worst-of-the-dc-reboot.html

:-D

Spot the irony here:

...for the past two years, as DC periodically culls the herd of the poor performers and replaces them with new ideas.

While this has led to a line heavy with books featuring Batman/Superman/Green Lantern characters...

More changes...shock!!

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/09/09/geoff-johns-leaves-aquaman-jeff-parker-joins/

Jeff Parker on Aquaman. Manupal & Buccelato off Flash. Cully Hamner replacing Albuquerque on Animal Man. And more! Good grief. Wait....I don't really care. Not even Animal Man. Thanks DC.

I like Cully Hamner so we'll see. I think Animal Man and Batman are the only 52 titles I am still reading.

Well that was a bumper week.

I had to put aside two hardcover books to keep the cash total down.

And I am glad to report that they put aside the Swamp Thing and Dial E for Evil lenticular covers for me.

Apart from the appalling treatment of Abigail Holland in the DCU, this was a return to form after the execrable whisky story.

The update of Abby's dad being the Patchwork Man to her mum's patchwork condition was a great idea.

But Dial E is a splendid stream of consciousness from China Mieville and some artists having great fun.

Top entertainment.

I repeat:

...for the past two years, as DC periodically culls the herd of the poor performers and replaces them with new ideas.

While this has led to a line heavy with books featuring Batman/Superman/Green Lantern characters...

I've totally lost touch with the Batman and Superman books. Are any of them a must-read at the moment? Or even a recommended read?

I like Snyder's Batman. Not really must read stuff but it's good. Grant Morrison's Batman Inc was way better.

Also, check out Batman Black and White. It's an anthology of rotating creators all doing black and white tales of our Dark Knight. good stuff, not continuity bound and very fun.

*dusts off thread* check check he...hello...Hello!

So I read an issue of Action Comics. It didn't suck! Greg Pak writes a decent Superman, closer to the kind that we should have, rather than what we've been getting. Superman fights a monster and deals with Ghost...Soldier..? Whatever, he phases. Superman acts a hero, he's a good man that makes the hard choices others can't. Also, Lana Lang is actually kind of interesting.

Aaron Kruder has a unique style I find appealing. There's maybe a touch of Chris Burnham to it.

This was so much better than the Super-Shit that's been around in the new 52 and on MoS. I don't have a desire to buy it monthly though, it's just a bit too thin. Maybe there's hope

"Animal Man" gets put down.

http://jefflemire.blogspot.com/2013/12/animal-man-to-end-in-march.html

This would be officially official. The last issue will be March's #29 (also my birthday, March 29th weird!) Lemire will write and draw it along with Travel Foreman. Also, look for Buddy to join Justice League Canada or whatever it's called.

The book has been lighting my world on fire lately, but it's been decent. I'm glad it seems like Lemire has brought to an ending of his choosing, the way he'd like to.

I'm fine with it also, because now I will be DC free.

When The Unwritten ends, I won't even be reading any Vertigo books, unless they can find some really good titles coming up.

It will mark the first time since I discovered Legends of the Dark Knight back when it first started that I will not be reading any DC books, at all.

Since the New 52 is so awful, and I'm reading too many Marvel books already, I am fine with putting aside DC until they can be bothered to fix their company.

I'm buying Green Arrow on an issue by issue basis. As Lemire has started this whole Outsider War with the different weapon clans (arrow, staff, shield etc), it's been interesting. And Sorrentino on art has been wonderful!

The only other books are Astro City, Unwritten (not much longer as mentioned) and Trillium (a limited series) and Sandman Overture (another limited).

That's a rather pitiful showing from DC

Well, it depends on how long Sandman:Overture lasts. If Unwritten ends before it does.

I'm reading Unwritten, Sandman, and Trillium from Vertigo right now, and they'll all be gone around the same time.
