Always doing things in style, Ade.

I was 23 when I bought my first issue of Hellblazer, I wish I could say I've spent the intervening time wisely!

All done.
It's dead good!
There's some proper Constantine-brand bastardry in there but as above the setting is very much its own beast. The only grumble I'd have is that there's maybe a few too many strands left open by the end of the mini, it does wrap up the main mystery but there's also plenty of set-up for future stories....which would've been fine for an ongoing but it's unclear if we'll be getting more ?
(Just checked and apparently it was announced in February that the series is now an ongoing, so yay!). -
I always preferred scruffy John, any suggestion that this may be related to my own lack of sartorial elegance would be slanderous.
-
Think he's just a scruffy sod to be honest
-
Late to the party, for a change, but loving that old man John look - and there's that half-tucked shirt again!
-
Keeps finding where you hide the key ?
-
Do you have a dad-cave with all your cool stuff in it, Lou ?
-
The half-untucked shirt is a nice touch.
-
Crikey! I love the cigarette smoke and the clothing textures!

Garth continues his nostalgia tour, might actually pick this up from a newsagents if I can.....
Battle Action is back, with Garth Ennis leading the charge. Following up on 2022's Battle Action special, ComicBook.com can reveal Rebellion's plans for a five-issue Battle Action miniseries in 2023. Ennis (Preacher, The Boys) will write a story in each issue, backed by additional stories from talents including John Wagner (Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog), Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy, Warhammer 40k), Torunn Grønbekk (Thor, Star Wars), Rob Williams (Suicide Squad, Judge Dredd), John Higgins (Watchmen, Judge Dredd) and Chris Burnham (Batman Incorporated, Unstoppable Doom Patrol), each putting new spins on characters introduced in stories from Battle Picture Weekly and Action.

I have not really enjoyed it. First year of being an orphan. Which came with a huge disruption in my mental stability, because I had always had my parents emotional support, and importantly, I had the constant value of being useful to people I cared about. And I REALLY feel the lack of having X hours in the week where I do things that have real utility to someone I care about.
Sorry to hear you're (understandably) struggling with that loss, have you considered some volunteer work ? Obviously the element of personal connection with the people you'd be helping wouldn't be there from the outset but you may still find it rewarding.

I think the only comics I read (or can remember reading) that came out in 2022 were the issues of Damned Them All, so it's not like I got much to choose from.

A new John Constantine thread and the year not even a week old, whatever next!?
This was mentioned in other threads but I picked up a digital copy of Constantine : Distorted Illusions for a couple of euro through a Comixology sale last night.Think Hellblazer as a young adult fantasy romance title like Twilight where the leads are all young, good looking folk who are DTF and aren't too bothered about the junk their latest conquest is packing. The climactic action scene features a cast of characters that Garth Ennis would create purely to have traditional John rip the piss out of but that more enlightened minds might simply describe as fabulous.
This wasn't aimed at me so so unsurprisingly it's not for me, I thought they did themselves a disservice bygiving young Constantine a more traditional look
at the end there though. Art's got a real Jamie McKelvie vibe to it, pretty to a fault so also not my thing, I want dark and gritty from the script through to the inking, walking parody me!
I remain surprised that 'Constantine' has a market value outside of old school Vertigo fans, I mean presumably it must for them to release this in the first place ? I don't mean that to sound like a criticism of the work but they must have stuck 'Constantine' on there cause they thought it would help sales or perhaps just to try and 'reframe the IP' ?
I would love to hear about people reading and enjoying this who then jump into Original Sin or Dangerous Habits say!
Would read another one by-the-by.- 1

Late to the party but hope this is an 80 page Hellblazer special or something similar, be nice if Ennis is hooking up with McCrea as well.

Despite having a most distinctive tune this classic somehow only entered my Christmas rotation last year!
To stop my drip-feed of Youtube links, just made my Christmas Playlist public.
But one more for the road anyway, take it away Kate.... -

And this gem, which speaks to my conflicted feelings toward Christmas... and also makes me think of you lot.
This is one of the few 'modern' (let's say from 2K onwards) Christmas songs that I think might go the distance and be considered a classic of the genre even further down the line.

Oh very good shout on Nat, Si absolutely nailed his supporting cast on Hellblazer and that's like half-the-battle!
I've read the first two issues of this and enjoyed both, to be fair to Si the demonic elements stand apart from how we've seen them handled in Hellblazer and are clearly an important part of the world. -
Fairytale Of New York sits at #4 and probably jumps to #1 once a certain level of alcohol consumption has been passed.
Spaceman is definitely a Christmas song and I'd put it in my top ten, top tune. -
I love me a good, or even bad, Christmas tune!
Wizzard are a definite top 5 but sitting pretty atop the tree for me are Slade, Merry X-Mas Everybody just sums up my own feelings around this time of year perfectly.
My Top 3, cause no-one asked, and really they're all joint #1....#3

It's done well to last this long!
The Mass Effect trilogy is just fantastic, while the RPG mechanics get maybe a little too streamlined by the third game the characters and story throughout remain most excellent - though they didn't quite stick the landing for me.
