  1. Let's get down to brass tacks, barring a couple of scenes and star turns from both Peter Stormare and Tilda Swinton, Constantine was largely rubbish.

Losing the HBO Max show kind of makes this look like a net loss in my eyes.  Maybe we'll get Hellblazer on Netflix ?

On the plus side, Keanu seems like a lovely chap and I'm not going to begrudge him reprising a role he's spoken of in the past.  Really, he can do whatever he wants as long as he keeps shooting fools in the head as John Wick!

  2. I'm probably being too hard on her but I'm sure she'll get over it, I went in unconvinced as mentioned up above and my efforts at viewing her take as being something separate from our boy were kind of shot to shit by lumbering Johanna with John's all too familiar baggage.

Rick The Vic was a nice Easter egg for old people familiar with the comics though and I appreciated that, so thanks guys!

  3. I don't have any issue reconciling an original creator changing up their own idea for the big screen while at the same time being very protective of that original idea property when it comes to handing it off to others.  There's also something quite meta about a title that eventually helped will Vertigo into existence being all about messing with genders and race and all of that.  It's tradition, innit ?

I'm three episodes into it and quite enjoying it, some of the casting has been really good especially the chap playing Dream.  It's a very hard role to put on screen but his delivery has been excellent, really sells what he's saying which is helpful as he has to talk a lot of brooding nonsense.

Jenna Coleman as Constantine is rubbish though, not her fault, just badly miscast as she has no edge to her at all.  Every time she swears it's like watching a rich sod pretending to be poor.

Joely Richardson, who plays Ethel, appears much better suited to the Constantine role - she gives the impression that she's been through the shit and curses with real feeling.  Her scene with The Corinthian's probably my favourite bit so far.  Surprised they gave Johanna so many of John's trappings, thought they were going to hang a new character off the name but guess not.  Nice coat, if nothing else.

Actor playing The Corinthian is doing a second rate Jeremy Irons impression for some reason, the man himself might be a little on the old side but bet he would've nailed the role.

Ending on a positive, the dude voicing Matthew's good.

  4. Well this looks right up my street -

BOOM! Studios announced today DAMN THEM ALL, a brand new original horror series from legendary The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard and highly acclaimed writer Simon Spurrier (Hellblazer, Coda), colorist Sofie Dodgson (Bitter Root), and letterer Jim Campbell (All-New Firefly), that introduces your favorite new occult antihero in a dark supernatural thriller this October 2022.

More details including preview pages here.

  5. Haven't really been keeping up with production so not 100% on that, I do know it was mandated as they don't want multiple 'screen' versions of any character running around and they have other plans for John.

Don't think I've seen Jenna in anything outside Doctor Who, she looks too nice to be a gender swapped John but then she is an actress.  I like her coat and reckon we'll get the scene where Morpheus mimicks her outfit with comic effect.

  6. I like the look of that Swamp Thing!

DC Unlimited (or whatever their online service is called) is finally coming to this part of the world in the near future, interesting in seeing what's available on it.

  7. Speaking as someone who dabbled a little in WOW back in the day, I'm all too familiar with that horrible moment when you realise that you've been playing a totally different game to those with maybe a little to much free time on their hands!

Dying Light 2 drops this week, it's had a troubled development process but I'm hoping they got it right as the first game was bloody brilliant - best zombie AI ever!

  8. Life being what it is I haven't had a chance to get any proper reading done in months now but things are starting to clear up and I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

First up will probably be Joe Abercrombie's new trilogy, just waiting for the third book to drop in mass market paperback.
