  1. Irish government looks like it's going to try and restrict indoor dining and pinting to those who have had both their shots only which is just not going to fly here.

The immediate thing that jumps out for me here is that bars and restaurants tend to be staffed by younger people who won't have had the chance to get both shots in the timeframe being considered.  If you're not going to allow non-vaccinated people dine indoors then you can't expect non-vaccinated staff to work there either.

On a related note, I've had my second shot and while it fucked me up for a day and change I'm pretty good now and thus immortal.

  2. Little under the weather today so read this to cheer myself up.

Unsurprisingly, it's very definitely for kids.  Johnny eats a plate of bangers and mash in it so it's a proper children's comic if you ask me!

There's maybe something meta about starting a Constantine story by introducing a fun status quo in England only to bin it off to dump him in America where things got a little boring for me.  Really nice, vibrant art throughout and I liked the little gang that had formed by the end of it.

Hope plenty of children get to read it and it finds an audience that follows it long enough for Kid Constantine to grow up into a nasty piece of work.

There's only a handful of panels with the parents and there's nothing to suggest that John Snr is 'our' John.

  3. From a cold business point of view that makes sense, that they haven't managed to get Drizzt out into other media is baffling to me - the lack of D&D animated properties is notable.  If you can't sell a Drizzt animated show to Netflix then you shouldn't be in marketing!

He's got TWO scimitars AND a magical panther!

  4. Third book is called Lord Of The Horsefuckers though so you never know....

Finished the short stories that made up the back end of the second Gotrek & Felix omnibus, stand out being the one centred on Snorri, of course.  In keeping with the first omnibus, his appearance appears to take place after events that will happen in a future collection.

Found my eye straying to some Drizzt collections but have decided to stick to the plan and role straight into the third omnibus.

  5. Read the first Something Is Killing The Children trade and thought it was...alright ?  Nice art, especially liked the main character's look but the premise just seemed a little Buffy but with swearing.  Probably won't be back for more.

  6. Ben Templesmith has announced that he'll be going back and finishing Fell at Image with Ellis.

Be interesting to see how Warren tries to manage his return to comics, just speaking personally I still don't feel inclined to support his work after those revelations about his treatment of women.

  7. Finished Vampireslayer, which gave my boy Snorri Nosebiter his moment in the sun and I couldn't be happier.  Characters that refer to themselves in the third person are well worn territory but for whatever reason it works for me when it comes to this little scamp, I still chuckle like an idiot every time there's a sentence like -

"Snorri thinks we should find some more ratmen to kill!" ranted Snorri as he swept his hammer back and forth at imaginary foes.

In keeping with other books in the series, the ending does come rather suddenly, with the bad guys dispatched we roll credits without so much as a hint of an epilogue.  I was going to read the Ulrika compilation next but checking publication dates it looks like it slots in after the 4th G&F omnibus so once I'm finished reading the short stories that fill out this second volume I'll head straight into the third.

  8. Finished the HoX/PoX collection and quite enjoyed it - some of the text pages felt a bit self-indulgent but I liked how grand the setup is.  Coming late to the game, it's interesting to see the seeds of stuff that's since played (X of Swords) or will play (Inferno) out planted right from the off.

See what I did there ? Krakoa ?  Seeds ?  No ? No.  Oh well.

  9. Just a few, looking these up revealed that there's a sixth (and I think final) G&F omnibus due next month -

    Giantslayer by William King (2003)
    Orcslayer by Nathan Long (2006)
    Manslayer by Nathan Long (2007)
    Elfslayer by Nathan Long (2008)
    Shamanslayer by Nathan Long (2009)
    Zombieslayer by Nathan Long (2010)
Road of Skulls by Josh Reynolds (2013)
The Serpent Queen by Josh Reynolds (2014)
City of the Damned by David Guymer (2013)
    Kinslayer by David Guymer (2014)
    Slayer by David Guymer (2015)

  10. Oh my, those dwarf space marines are amazing.  AMAZING!

Finally got a chance to wrap up Beastslayer, wherein Gotrek, Felix & friends stand in the way of the second great Chaos invasion.  Really enjoyed it for what it is, enjoyable hack'n'slash fiction - if you're not comfortable with antagonists calling themselves things like "Doomblade" and "Skulltaker" then this stuff isn't for you but it's DEFINITELY for me!

Some surprising nuance to the relationship triangle between Felix/Ulrika/Max that really stands out amongst the dwarves fucking Chaos shit up!

Next up is Vampireslayer which, apart from some short stories, brings the second G&F omnibus to a close.  I suspect that this is going to lead into the stand alone Ulrike trilogy.

Do you have a big Viking house you can show us ?

I have largely been playing Yakuza games this year.  All of them.  Kazuma Kiryu now stands proudly beside Geralt Of Rivia as my favourite video game protagonist.  It's great that it's possible for me to play through a full series that debuted way back in 2005 from start to finish through Steam on my PC.

Currently playing Yakuza : Like A Dragon which brings with it a new protagonist as well as shifting from being a brawler to a full on, turn based RPG!  Nearly done with it and having a great time, Ichiban's a strong enough protagonist to carry the series forward fo sure.
