  1. I just saw an urban fox in the most urban environment on earth.

    Ditto.

Last year I saw a fox cross Sveavägen (near the library, Hard Rock, Odengatan crossing if you look at the map), where I used to live, in Stockholm. It's as central as you can get.

I've seen a fox where I live recently a few times but I live north of Stockholm now (20 mins on train).

  2. I made my landlady cry !

I gave her a Christmas card (with seasonal photos I'd taken myself).

She come bangin on me door, I opened and this arm came at me for a hug.

For those of you who remember my Costanza avatar, I was dress like him from the waist up !

  3. On my mp3 nearly constantly is Deep down and dirty, Stereo MC's.

It's a surprising little gem, quite upbeat and much better than their 2 hit wonders Step it up and Connected.

Just copied from the library, This Is Cult Fiction - Various. Pretty damn cool, not the Tarentino stuff, there's lots of the classic themes from the 60´s and 70´s tv shows, lovely easy listening, mellow stuff.

Lovesexy - Prince, has found it's way back into my earhole after feeling the line from Anna Stesia "Have you ever felt so lonely, that you felt like you were the only one in this world ?" Haunting track as a few of the other tracks are. This was the album that dragged me into the purple haze called Prince.

When I first slapped it on the record player (yep "vinyl" / plastic large disc) I thought what a fucking mashed up racket ! Too much all at once. All that multi-layered crap. After about 5 listens I was out at the flea markets / 2nd hand stores to buy up his back catalogue. IMHO the Sign 'O The Times / Lovesexy period was his best time. SOTT being one of the best albums of all time, of course.

Got me hands on a remastered copy of Age of Conscent - Bronski Beat, which was nice. Has some extra tracks including 3 remixes from the Hundreds and Thousands album, which to my knowledge aint available on cd ?

Also got Better Living Through Chemistry - Fatboy Slim cos it was pretty damn cheap and was pleasantly suprised that I liked it. I dunno where I was when it came out but hadn't heard any of the tracks before.

Does anyone own Fatboy Slims / Norman Cooks - Freakpower albums ? Any good ?

  4. Innovating in the sense of learning new ways of pain. Of course, it's a sinister bad joke.

I have to read that book. It's a serious psicologycal study of trauma in the aftermath of political repression. Apparently, before the Second World War, the common theory was that any adult person can overcome a psicological trauma, those who didn't had a hidden neurosis or trastorn before the traumatic experience.

The theory had to change after the second war and the communist dictatorship. Shellshock was a term created during this change, I think.

And thank you for the compliment, Donny. I'm taking a lot of care of the wrapping of my body. But I need more sun, for the vitamins, you know.

Thank you for enlightening me. ..... I'm still a bit worried about that glove... .... did you used to use a sock before by any chance ? ;)

  5. Season for re-reading ?

I haven't read any book for yonks, not all the way through anyway, though I can blame my medicines for ½ year for that, and depression and alcohol for a few years.

I've start to re-read Brave New World Aldous Huxley. I think it's a pretty amazing piece of work considering the subject (set in A.F. 632) and the time it was written, around the year of stability A.F. 26 (1932).

Funniest part for me, is how the christian cross' top was cut off to form the letter "T", symbolising the model T Ford automobile, the first mass produced car. For Henry Ford was the creator of all things great.

The description of the future is still a frightening possibility. Amazingly written 16 years before Big Brother's 1984.

Check it out if you ain't had the pleasure and doom, sci-fi and genetics tickles your fancy.

    There. Satisfied? :D

I knew I shouldn't have come in the drunk thread !

  7. Somewhat late but...

    IMG_1917.jpg

...myself on Hallowe'en as the Beauty Queen of the Dead.

    Loverly Claire !

Is this a morning after pic Claire ? ;)

That's one thing I don't miss since sober, morning/afternoon/early evening after.

(oh and the worrying about what I can't remember what I did, said, txt msgs I sent, phone calls I made, how the fuck I got home if I got home, or if I didn't where the fuck I am and who the fuck is she ?! And the "oh fuck I've just missed another therapy session".... otherwise I quite miss those good old days  )

PS. Saw a great NZ flick this evening "Whale Rider", lovely story.

  8. Saw Michael Clayton (with Swerika) on Monday.

    Not impressed.

Why did it get described as a thriller ?

Why have I read that George Clooney will probably get nominated for an Oscar for his role ?

Not saying it was a bad film, it was ok, not worth going to the cinema to see.

It's the sort of thing you hire when non of the good films are left at the video rental or watch on tv when nothing better is on.

Saw This Is England last week. Much better, down to earth, moving, funny and made me shudder when memories of that era came flooding back (Pooks, I lived in Armthorpe, went to Armthorpe Comp during the miners strike, lovely it was). Not a feel good movie to say the least but very well produced. It really looked like it was filmed back in the dark ages (ie Maggie Thatcher era). I hope this gets a nomination for the photography, at least.

  9. Prince - Love (Acoustic Version)

A pretty little ditty that would have fitted perfectly on his most underrated, most unknown acoustic album "The Truth" which was slapped in the back of the tripple disc box mish mash Crystal Ball

(making it a 4 disc mess, though there is a 5 disc version where he also squeezed in his boring balet Karma Sutra available through the long gone fan club).

    Sorry Im just mumbling.

Yeh this track "Love" was on his 3121 album last year, polished, covered in treacle and dipped in pink bunny fluff like most of his stuff these days.

This guitar and voice version is superior in its simpleness.

  10. Thanks! I do enjoy Dr. Who, in fact, right now I'm buying (not all of them at once, of course) the DVD's from the Baker years and the first two seasons of the new show.

Hi Who ! ;) (I feeling an Abbott and Costello thing coming...)

How the hell hare hyou Who ?

I ain't no big fan of the Doctor but I gotta say Tom was the best of 'em all, for me he IS Doctor Who.

    He's got a fantastic voice.

(A Baker that had the potential of a barber (shop singer)).

  11. RE: Pecan

Oh! Oh! I actually know the answer to this one!

It comes from an Algonquin Native American word, it means "a shell that is tough to crack without a stone".

Funny where such words come from that don't have any connection with their function today, I have one under my bed incase I need answer the call of nature in the middle of the night but can't be bothered to haul all the way to the toilet.

  12. Why does everything the colour orange taste similar?

Youv'e got a point there actually depending on what you eat, I mean you can eat three oranges and they will all taste similar, same if you eat three carrots or orange post-it notes.

Though the same could be said with say the colour green etc.

I got colour question, what's with ladybirds (ladybugs(us), nyckelpigor(swe)) shitting yellow ? What is it that makes it that colour ?

    Ditto baby shit being green.

  13. I listened to "The Man Machine" (Kraftwerk) yesterday for the first time but I wasn't really impressed by it. "The Model" was the only track I'd heard before and that is pretty good but I found the others pretty plain and boring. Yes, I know it was recorded in '78 and they were ahead of their time but it didn't tickle my fancy.

I'll give it one more try...

  14. The Mummy (1999)

I take it, this wasn't supposed to be taken seriously, and was a nod to the good old fashioned films but I gotta say it's one of the worst films I've ever had to suffer.

Scooby Doo, the cartoon NOT the film was more exciting and funny than this.

The SFX were shite and the acting was embarassing.

If you haven't seen it avoid it at all costs.

    **********************************

Saw a pretty damn good Swedish film yesterday on tv that never even made it to the cinema here, so I doubt it will reach over the Scandinavian borders so pointless to mention it really but anyway...

For the benefit of Red, Mark and Malin it's called "Sista dagen" (The last day). There are no famous actors and it was very low budget, but it was very well acted and the script was great.

It's about two brothers and their girlfriends. One of the couples are going through a rough patch in their relationship due to lack of communication and expression of feelings. They decide to take off to their summer cabin (that the guy and his brother inherited from their recently deceased father) in the middle of nowwhere to see if they can find their way back to each other.

His brother is a drug user, so is his girlfriend. He walks into a dealer's flat and finds the dealer dead in a pool of blood. Scared shitless he decides to get away from it all and heads off to the cabin with his other half not knowing that his brother is there.

The couple trying to patch up their relationship are not amused by the intrusion.

The "last day"'s stay at the cabin is worth the wait.

  15. That there link of Donny's is well worth a click too folks.

Like The Wannadies meet Andrew Bird.

    Glad you like it, Adrian.

It's damn good for a debut, a breath of fresh air.

It's only just been released here in Sweden in the last couple of months. Not available on Amazon.co.uk yet.

He's touring Sweden at the mo, and doing some of the festivals here in Scandinavia, so I can't imagine him breaking into the UK and the rest of Europe just yet but he will do...

(The link is in my sig, click on the pic)

  16. Salem Al Fakir at myspace

    m_49c6f923fde890c11b3d17fc77baae55.jpg

This is one guy to watch out for this coming year, Salem Al Fakir.

Singer, song writer and a whizz on the instruments (all instruments on his debut album are played by him apart from the horns, drums and congas).

Might not be your cup of tea, it's not really mine but it's bloody good.

It reminds me of the singer/songwriters of the 70's though he's got a sound of his own.

A really refreshing change to todays music.

Don't be fooled by the name, he's a Swede.

There's 4 tracks at myspace, check them out.

  17. I've just been peeking at the old threads and realised I never updated you guys about the explosion in the building where I lived ! December '04. (I was drinking quite often back then).

    Bang goes the neighbourhood !

The explosion happened on the same floor where I lived but in an apartment round the corner. It left a big hole in the side and the roof. Two people had minor injuries and the owner of the apartment was missing, but was later found in dead in the rubble.

This man (later known as "the KB man"/"KB mannen") was awaiting trial after being accused of stealing very rare and valuable books from Swedens Royal Library (Kungligabiblioteket, KB for short) and selling them on for a princely sum (it was suspected he bought the apartment with some of the money).

After an investigation it was decided there were no suspicious circumstances regarding the explosion, ie the KB man himself sawed through a gas pipe to commit suicide.

We, my ex and I had moved back from a 2 years stint in Oslo a few months earlier. We had hired out our apartment to a work colleague at the company, where we both worked, for those 2 years. He happened to tell us after the explosion that he got to know this KB guy as an aquaintence. Apparently well enough to borrow a couple of books from this guy !! (I can't remember if he said which books but I assumed he returned them to him !).

  18. I watched Man on the moon ('99) with Jim Carey this evening.

I'm no big Carey fan but I enjoyed the film.

It's based on the life story of Andy Kaufman, american comedian who I'd only seen playing Latka (the east european with a silly voice) in Taxi.

It was quite intresting to see, he seemed to be quite a character, one of a kind. Some of the stunts he pulled were unbelieveable, way over the top and over the edge.

Now I know what that REM song was about, "Man on the moon", they did the soundtrack.

  19. Saw a pretty good film last week, Hard Eight.

About this guy who ends up on the street after gambling away all his money in Vegas. A mysterious older guy takes him off the street and buys him a coffe. He offers to take the guy back to Vegas, lend him 50 bucks and show him how to win some of the money back.

Just watched The Filth and the Fury, a documentry film about The Sex Pistols.

Pretty intresting. Felt sorry for Sid in a way cos he was just a little kid who never grew up and devoid of any visible talent or intellect. Nancy obviously saw that and took advantage.
