And I am 3/2 through Jeff Lemire's astoundingly beautiful Essex County trilogy.
The first part is the tale of a kid who meets a slightly backward man in his local village, who turns out to be a former hockey star. The kid spends his whole time dressed as a superhero as a promise to his dying mother. This one is quite gentle, but the second (much longer) part is about two brothers (who turn out to be the father and uncle of the man in part one and also hockey players) from the village. One brother chooses family and home over his hockey stardom, the other ends up as the narrator of their tale, an old man, deaf, possibly dementing and remeniscing on their relationship.
For such a simple art style this packs more emotion than all them films with their minor key sad soundtracks. Beautiful.

I though Jeff Lemire deserved his own thread.
I might do the same for other writers of note, since the Old Ones just ain't up to much.Oh, and some of Christian's nice reviews of books get lost in the generic threads.

Oh that's nice. I missed the film deal stuff, but actually, I could think of many more Lemire books I'd rather see on the screen before Black Hammer.
Not at all a criticism of Black Hammer, as Jason T knows, it's the best thing that's ever happened to Lou K.

I got my copy of Lip Hook.
That's my train journey sorted.

I think it's more a function of the time.
Similar revisiting of the DCU (I recall Resurrection Man arrived around the same time). And also similarly created by people. With an eye on realistic relationships between characters.
Tgat reminds me I bought the collection so it might be buried in my pile of piles somewhere.
I liked Chase.
She had a suitably Constantinian view of the DCU

Yeah, and they don't even have to because The People In Charge saying "He struck her" would have been acceptable even if the microphone lady had punched him in the face.
-
And yet, two of them have successful films with their female comicbook protagonists and one hasn't.
There are, I expect, quite a few folks who know the crossover between these three writers who are amused by it.

Me too!
I wonder if either of the two big US comic companies have tried getting themselves on iTunes - being able to buy downloads through same for, say, a euro would be most excellent.
Did you ever get paid for this idea?
And does someone have scans, as I appear to be missing a few issues from my archive

I think most employers that test for drug use (quite common in the 'Sates, apparently) check urine rather than hair for some reason. Possibly because they can test for other stuff besides dope from a urine sample?
Not it's cost and ease of sampling.
We're talking bout the Law though.

But, two factors to consider: no-one gets off a drink drive test by proving that they weren't high (when most are not). It might be amusing to see someone prove in court that they could not have been stoned, by smoking a joint and giving hourly urine tests while successfully operating complex machinery better and better as the drugs wear off.
and also: hair tests have a fairly good timeline.

Maybe if you do something wrong and they find cannabis in your urine you get heavier punishment.

What are proposition 1 and 2?
Are the proposition numbers the same in all ballots?
Also, can you explain how/why the house of reps and Senate show different trends?
It seems to me that when our nation's are split 50:50 your system comes closer to represent that. Although neither supports non- partisan politics.
Gerrymandering is insanely obvious cheating isn't it?

Yes I've seen all three.
Trust me, when it gathers momentum the psychological battle between Matt and Kingpin is as good as the good fight scenes. And the prison fight scene was silly.

If anyone has moved or wants to opt in/out let us know here.

This scene was so powerful "right now"

Hello people.
So I enjoyed the Punisher one and have not yet watched his own series.
And due to being ill yesterday and today, I decided to watch S.3 of Daredevil. It's got Vincent D'Onofrio in it.
And the plot where King Pin manipulates everything from prison and then "prison".Special prisons that they have in TVland.
Where a blind man posing as his best friend can bluff his way into a prison without photo ID and then get rushed out without being checked...
while a riot that he basically caused is going on.
(There is actually an instory reason why that happened, but at the time, during the most preposterous episode, I was like WTFF!)Then the Bullseye episode is really good (his development through the series has impressed me a lot)
Back to the second half !
