  1. okay...though where i come from...we kinda start getting a life around 25 or 26.

so unless he's like 22-24 here,???

maybe cultural misunderstanding.so what ,what ,everyone in the uk starts having kids and families at 30?or is the broken family thing common and even accepted ?or is this a white thing,or a middle class thing? idk. is that how it works now? 30 is NOT the new 20.and this is implied to be after his punk rock days so???

    i can buy 22-24 maybe,but if he's like 26-27 and bed-hopping.no.

This is John Constantine, not Richie out of Happy Days.

    THANK YOU!!

  2. It sounds like you have your own romantic notions about John Constantine.

well to be fair, it is what you are doing too. you like the idea of him being anti society to the bone. this is pretty romantic on its own merit. i understand where you are coming from. however i how he was displayed in hellblazer, with having relationships. it was making him seem less of an archetype and more of a human. his human moments made hellblazer so much more readworthy than most of the rest. folks like the bat and supes, they are just to clean an archetype to bring any enjoyment to me. having him break character from time to time makes him even more gritty. he does not need to be in a relationship right now, for that i agree, but he shouldn't be promiscuous. i never read john as a character particulary driven by sexual desire, just as much as the average human propably.

John Constantine of Hellblazer also never had any children.

well he did. it was the result of what can only be supposed to have been rape. but still three little demonlings.

And more or less Tefe before them (and that was a joint effort with the Bog God in the driver's seat)

  3. People sleep around in real life.

John Constantine isn't supposed to be a role model.

If you think John being promiscous is the same thing as Azzarello's portrayal of bisexuality as something creepy, then you need to really wake up, and wonder what you want this book to represent.

People sleeping around is not something that should be considered "creepy".

John stole a wallet. Does that mean that bisexual people are thieves? Do we need to watch everything John does and says to make sure that it's acceptable, so that bisexual folks don't get a bad reputation? Is that what this book is about?

Is showing heterosexual people sleeping around giving a bad message about heterosexuality? Should we only have moral fiction that promotes monogamous sexuality?

If not, why is a bisexual character, who is shown to reject society's morality, seen as a bad thing?

I don't want John to be some progressive political point about how great bisexual people are, I want a John Constantine who doesn't care about morality. He fucks who he wants because he wants to fuck.

If that's all you want this version of John Constantine to be, then I'd rather side with those who'd rather John's sexuality not even be addressed.

I have always preferred monogamous relationships, myself.

I want to live vicariously through John Constantine. I want a character who flys in the face of everything considered acceptable by society. I want a transgressive character in this comic.

Also, you're looking at Hellblazer, which started when John was in his 30s. This version of John Constantine is younger. Based on what we know of John's days before Hellblazer started, you get the idea that he was promiscuous.

Which makes sense. People are more likely to experiment sexually when they're in their 20s, but by the time they're in their 30s, they're more willing to settle down with one partner and try to carve out a life together.

In his younger days, he was in a punk rock band, he experimented with drugs. I doubt he wasn't sleeping around.

The only actual relationship we know of before Hellblazer started, really, was Emma (from Moore's Swamp Thing), and that was portrayed as an open, long-distance relationship.

    All of this!!!

  4. I prefer to think of it as someone passionate about what they were creating, responding to a warm (lukewarm) response from some fans,

and taking it to the people who make these decisions based on algorithms and (dollar) signs.

    So fair play to him.

And the band of people who stood by him.

So that's your "everybody" shot down in (internet) flames.

Me included in said band. Even little Astra herself (Bailey Tipton) favorite my tweet earlier.

  5. I'm not sure that Constantine will "live on for many more years" now. This new series better be really damn good, because if it flops like the New 52 version, I don't think we'll see John Constantine for years.

Better to have him on the shelf like Cassandra Cain than have the current regine continue putting its fist up our boy's carcass to keep peddling the New52 further regardless of the Convergence intermission.

  6. The Revenge of the Higgins!Constantine

You know, I was looking at some of the John Higgins pages yesterday.

They are much better suited to Hellblazer/Constantine than the period from Camuncoli to the 2nd year of Constantine.

It bemuses me how many people get excited by Constantine meeting superheroes, so I read some of these crossover books that the kids have nowadays and they are utter shite.

Ikr. Even from the Search for Swamp Thing previews from early on was a glaring red flag that the DCU of the last 13 years isnt a good environment for our boy as as DiDio and co. pigheadly thinks. If I had my way, I'd switch John out and have Ragman be part of JL: Narf. These past four years of forcing a misconception onto everyone whether its the sanitized origin to having ot contaminate 250 issue history to justify why him in the said tainted universe is better has been one big epic fail after the next.

Even the CW crossovers tweets and Guggenheim trolling about John being an expert on the Lazarus Pits irk me to no end.

  7. No, it bloody doesn't. Autopilot from page one.

Climaxing with the long-awaited return of Azarello's casual psychopath.

    Not again!?! SONOFABITCH!!!

Again, the new jacket still not working for me... At this point, I'd settle for a pea coat than this eyesore and the boots still scream Matt Smith.

And since when is Mucous Membrane a fucking duo with this Veronica broad?

  8. i was more of defending her story, then defending her john. i think that her character depiction of constantine was spot on, is an unisono opinion in this forum. it was always the opinion that her stories lacked a little, not just by you. i just wanted to put that a little into perspective. i actually liked the idea with the football game resolution. she is way above the likes of azz and milligan, in her storytelling in hb i think.

I re-read her run more than I ever will Milligan again save for Suicide Bridge (whilst pretending Epiphany is nowhere to be found)

  9. I enjoyed all the incarnations of our john until Azz, but then things got make on track again until milligan's john (sorry, Pete),

Surprisingly, even though her stories were lackluster, Denise Mina's John was spot on, as good as any of the others. it's just too bad she mired him down in that blasted european football misadventure. as interesting as she made her John, all her other characters were just meh. but her John is among my faves with Jenkins, Carey and Delano.

Plus Vankin slacking off at the time didn't do her run any favors.

  10. I guess they can just keep trying and trying until they create an audience for John Constantine, but they already failed once trying to make a Constantine for the lowest-common-denominator. New 52 John didn't set the sales charts on fire and got axed.

Also, I'm not sure if you actually know what autism is, and those lines were pretty offensive.

We live in a world where most of pop culture is geared towards morons, because the majority of humans are mindless followers who have no interest in ever having to think, but the majority of morons have no interest in comic books. Even with all the pretty pictures, comic books still require some reading to actually grasp what's going on in those nice little pictures, so they're far too much like novels.

While some novels like 50 Shades of Gray or The Da Vinci Code are acceptable (every once in a while, to some of the masses), they haven't heard Oprah or Hollywood talk about how great any of these comic books are, so they don't want to risk something being too intelligent. Intelligent things are hard to understand!

So, the point is, DC will probably never find an actual market for John Constantine outside of us suckers who read Hellblazer and keep coming back.

They shouldn't have fixed what was never broken and DiDii and co. knew damn well they can't have their cake and eat it too in having John being the go-to gimmick lighting rod for crossovers and pisspoor material

  11. the pilot on this one has already leaked. i smell a trend.

I'll take a good college guess as to what comes next

    *Some positive buzz

*Pilot gets decent ratings but drops as time rolls on

*Ad time for it goes into either the reality shows or CSI and Cyber

*Nina Tessler takes a page from Greenblatt in dragging her feet with the rights ao a rival wont have to take the show in leading to the eventual cancellation announcement and the fall 2016 schedule.
