  1. Watched Happiness. It's a different kind of "B" movie, for black comedy  Set in New Jersey, complete with obscene phone calls, dismemberment, pedophilia, and the immigrant experience. Really loved it, very witty.

Am on the hunt for Married/Unmarried, if any of you have seen it and can tell me how good/crap it is. I've grown very fond of Ben Daniels.

  2. Poor teeth and stomach. I hope you both feel better soon... Zhaan, maybe pinning a target to the opposite wall will make it more fun

I picked up a cold somewhere somehow, it started with some kind of throat irritation then it traveled to my head. Now my nose is just bleeding green.

  3. Caught Stardust last night and it was totally excellent. There was not one moment where I was bored, annoyed*, disappointed or unconvinced of the quality of the show. probably the best movie I've seen since Pan's Labrynth, but I don't watch a whole lot of movies.

Same! I especially liked Michelle Pfeiffer, she does wonderful villains. Lots of differences from the books as usual, but the movie actually made me want to go back and read the novel. I tried reading it years ago and stopped about 1/3 of the way because all I remember was being bored :) Now I eagerly want to get a few people together to do a costume group of Septimus, Primus, and their brothers.

  4. I've never really thought of him having any "power" as such, beyond maybe a slightly heightened sensitivity to supernatural presences. He's just an ordinary bloke who's picked up some insider knowledge (and a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing). He'll go out and recruit allies with "real" powers as and when he needs them.

The roulette scene in 232 I think characterizes John's magic, where he says it doesn't matter where the ball actually lands as long as they see what he wants them to see. It reminds me of a scene in Lucky Number Slevin, when Mr. Goodkat explains "A Kansas City Shuffle is when everybody looks right, and you go left."

  5. Considering the discussion on the last two or three pages, I think it's less a matter of canon now and more a matter of it being in character or not. Obviously I think an open sexuality is in character for John, and deserves a little exposure alongside the many women we always get to see riding him cowgirl on panel 8-)

  6. I completely buy that -- in fact, you summed up my opinion on the subject better than I did.

So do I, and knowing that's how Andy Diggle feels... I'm still wondering if we'll get to see some of that attitude in his run  I agree with Fire Griffin and feel like he's renewed John back to his cocksure days. It's an opportunity that fits within the story and character's confidence to expand upon that. I'd like to point out I'm not asking for man-on-man smut (I'll bet it still looks that way, ah well), I just wish more writers would emphasize that open aspect of John's personality. It's only been implied, rarely cemented on panel, and with Azzarello's run it was aggressive and shoehorned as Rassmguy said. I think Andy Diggle can do much better.
