That thing gabe was holding wasn’t a kitchen knife, it was the spear of Longinus soaked in the blood of Christ. Which would make some shitty holy brass knuckles look like sap gloves. If the spear had been thrust through Angela with the force that it was thrust into the floor it would have gone through her skin and into that thing that was inside her. Its not a matter of misinterpreting the symbolism. That demon was physically right under her skin and would have been pierced with the spear.

I think what java was asking is, the intent of gabe seemed to be that she wanted to release the demon. But when lucy pulled what’s her face out of the way gabe was thrusting the spear with so much force as to imbed it in the floor. So it seams on one had through gabes actions that she wanted to kill lucys son, but through her words that she wanted to release that thing into the world. Personally I think it was some jackass that wanted the scene like that as some kind of punctuation so that the audience would know something big just happened, if so it was a foolish production error.
