Oh yeah there's definitely an element of contempt for everyone else and it's definitely a cynical pose, I'm just saying as far as poses go, I think it's entertaining

I think it's funny, he's like a rich guy who's always drinking. kind of reminds me of a WASPY rodney dangerfield. maybe I'm just used to US politics, where politicians' personas range from serious guy in suit to serious woman in pantsuit.

I know we don't like his policies but can I just say, I love his persona

http://deadline.com/2015/05/the-new-mutants-x-men-josh-boone-the-fault-in-our-stars-fox-1201425641/
Fox has closed a deal with The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone to co-write and direct The New Mutants, a standalone spinoff that expands its X-Men movie universe. The series, already part of the X-Men Comics universe, introduces a new crop of mutant characters born with special powers. Boone will co-write with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner.I hope they go full 80s with it.

Oh, Manu Bennett? Yeah, that's when the show starts to pick up. He's a major character.

Ok but the US was also selling arms to Iran at the same time. Or right now in Syria, what's the US's policy? They're arming rebels, but not very much, not backing the only moderate successful faction (the Kurds), and seeking detente with Iran, who views Syria as the 34rd province. I think they want Assad to remain in power but you could make just as good a case that they don't. I'm not sure there is a coherent policy at all.
-
I disagree that bureaucracies have coherent policies. I think a lot of the time, they just do what they do and expand with no real decision making process behind it. Look at housing policy/road infrastructure. One branch of the government pursues one goal (increasing economic development in cities) while another pursues a contradictory goal (building giant highways through cities). Or the Iraq-Iran war. Which side was the US backing?
-
I'm not saying the CIA is a rogue operation so much as that there isn't really a coherent policy.
-
Not to me it didn't.

Between 1957 and 1966, the Soviets extended $8410262648.84 of military aid, adjusted for inflation, to Egypt, if you believe the CIA that is.That dwarfs any American aid to Israel at the time. The Arab countries had already sided with the Soviets since Nasser took over. It's true the US backed islamists over soviet proxies, but that's not the same as being responsible for the rise of Islamic Extremism everywhere. Iran sheltered and funded Al Qaeda for years. And in fact, in Afghanistan in the 80s, the funding for the mujahidin from wealthy Arabs, not the CIA. Also, I think it's highly debatable whether the CIA doing something means it's a deliberate policy on the US's part. It's such a huge organization with a black book budget. You know in Bananas when they back both sides of the coup?
Christian, I hear you about writing longer responses, I'll work on that.
