Sorry I might be dropping be here to rant a bit, because this is not a NZ space. I can't handle the news here at home, and the chat, and Facebook, and the messages of support. I can't handle the clothing drives and the impromptu benefit gigs. I can't handle not being able to say what I feel because it so crass when compared to what is happening, and because there is no where to say it without fearing hurting others.

All my family and friends in Chch are OK. Its such a small fucking city in such a small fucking country though, that I'm here waiting to hear the first name of someone I know somehow who is dead.

Chris is off the internet but I'm pretty sure he's in the North Island on a dig or some such. Far away from quake area.

Another big earthquake in Christchurch at 1 pm today. Probable fatalities. Mr E D Meaner is OK.

I am ashamed, I had not even considered that. Mr Meaner of the smiles.

 

The building he worked in was I remember, in the city centre itself, and of that certain era that have been most damaged, so maybe he is out one workplace.

 

Claire however is in Wellington last I heard from her.

Meaner is A-OK. Thrill of the quake is worn off and he's back to courting danger on his skate board.

My family/clan got through it all intact (except for one of my Great Aunts who cracked a tooth lose getting out bed during the quake). Dad's on an extended holiday as the carpet factory where he works is closed because (in his words) "the day shift are wimps who won't work through the aftershocks".

It's going to be pretty harsh on small businesses and the aftershocks are still going which is freaky as. Aside from that that there's really only the dodgy new legislation to worry about.

It's actually an online archive of previously printed comics, but seriously I can't rave enough about Roddy's Film Companion.

It's a fictionalised autobiography told through the life of actor and former child star Roddy McDowall (How Green Was My Valley, Cleopatra, Planet of the Apes, Fright Night).

I meant when I'm not following Hellblazer and other international comics I start wanting to be somewhere else persuing other interests even though this is a lovely place full of interesting, welcoming people.
