  1. Des, tell us more about Kult. And Jay, how hard is it to play Con-job?

Of course I will, but this can be a bit difficult task, due to (for example) the size of Kult's cosmology.

So.. Kult is a game of modern horror, horror which take place within streets of the cities we know, in the world we live in, but where nights are longer and shadows deeper. This game is different than any other - here we don't take a role of hero, of someone stronger, wiser (or supernatural). The players personifies common people - cops, writers, journalists, businessmans - anyone we see on the street at all. Kult is a game exploring the dark side of human mind, our worst nightmares, instincts etc., and this is what we see during Kult's scenarios - murderers, madmans etc. But nothing is what it seems to be...

    Beyond the Veil.

Humans were once gods, truly powerful and mighty, living without limits within Gardens of Eden. But one of them - Demiurge - was greedy. After many aeons he commit a sin against his brothers and sisters and had created a jail for all of us - Elysium. This was a place where humans had been imprisoned and where they're living to the present times, washed out of their past personality, and forces. Demiurg, to rule our prison well, created eternal city - Metropolis, which main purpose was to maintenance the shroud of illusion. But Demiurge had a brother... His evil half - Astaroth - The Lord of Inferno, which wasn't contented of his brother's kingdom. It was begining of conflict. Demiurge and Astaroth were not alone at all, they had faithful followers - ten archonts and ten Angels of Death, looking to every aspect of human's life (Thaumiel - injustice, Gamaliel - perverse sexuality, Geburah - law). At the begining of 20th century Demiurg had gone in the mythical Abyss.. His power and strength of illusion was fading away, and the shroud became so thin that strange emotional charge can tear it down - and finally expose us on the true reality...

This is only a small part of much bigger history...

Besides Kult's is full of references to kabbalah, occultism, christianity and it's built on them.

For example ten Archonts (sephirots) creates the Tree of Life of Kabbalah.

Listen, now seriously. We can make a RPG.

    Vertigo RPG?

In my opinion it could become one of the most interesting rpgs.. :)

But on the other way IMHO it is hard task to gather all Vertigo's titles in one and make it bright and coherent.

    Anyway... I'm in :)

    A little off:

Is this suppose to be what we can call a good DnD session?

  2. Know anybody with the last name Kondek, des?

Not personally introduced, but yes especially in Warsaw and Cracow. If you want, you can give me some more precise information and I can run an investigation :) Of course if you didn't made something like that yet.

I tend to think there is a huge difference between European Poles and Polish-Americans.

Yes, I agree, but from my experience I think that Polish-Americans have a great sense of their identity. As I remember there were three huge waves of Polish immigrants in USA.

First, during the time of insurections in XIX age.

Second, during the years of the Great War.

and Third, during and after the WWII.

But the same jokes are made about every ethnic group to come into America.

We'll see such situation in every country. For example in Poland jokes about Germans, Russians and Jews are very popular. In Croatia - jokes about Gipsies etc. From light to caddish ones. :)

  3. Here are some of the memorable campaigns we have run:

The Crossroads and Life During Wartmie suits me best, due to my favourite setting - the present, also The Cross... sounds like Delta Green, Kult and Dark Matters in one (and I like them all).

Gaslight - yeah, it's great period, IMHO especially for CoC's investigations and journeys to forgotten places :>

And, yes, in the Crossroads campaign, one of the players played a Constantine, a distant uncle, "Jack Constantine."

Once I thought about running a single stricte connected with Hellblazer, with player playing one of the characters appearing in comic, but not John itself (maybe some FBI agent instead of family member), but I didn't ran it yet. I like your idea and The Eye - I used something similar in my Kult scenario.

I'm running a game of Mutants and Masterminds right now (it's a super hero game)...I hope to start a Red Dwarf Game soon, if my friends stop being smeg heads and decide to give it a chance.

Red Dwarf? I didn't heard of it...

Due to the fact I sent this topic, I think it's a right time to write something about my rpg's interests. I can confirm that I have my The Best RPGs Trinity :) Kult, Call of Cthulhu (with Delta Green) and Wraith: The Oblivion, besides sometimes I run Cyberpunk 2020, DnD (rarely).

During the last rpg convention (Konkret 2005) I ran Kult scenario made on the basis of Hellblazer #141 (banned one) set in Twin Falls, Idaho (1995). Players take a roles of policemans investigating school-shootin' case. Also Neo-Nazis had a few words to say... I can say it was successful with good reviews.

  4.

Especially the dread rabbit-eye (hmm... what a weird rabbit with tail... what da fuck?) :D Anyway the photo is great.

Palm Sunday? Thought it was palm saturday.

Nope, "Palm Sunday" is correct :) We call it "Niedziela Palmowa" :>

People, I want to see pics of your town. Churches. The Library. Cops. Pubs. Alleys. Peasants. Stores. Show me pics, I love them! Des, I would LOVE to see pics of Poland. I don't know if you know this but many Americans have European lineages, and Lou and I are Polish. Our grandparents were raised in a Polish enclave of Detroit. I would love to see pics of Polish churches.

Wow, Nice to hear. Who knows, maybe we are related somehow. :) Special greets for K. Brothers! :)

I think I'll take some photos of interesting places tomorrow (I hope). From what I can say now is that in the city where I dwell we have:

    * 700 years old mediaeval church

    * aged castle of the nobility

    * bernardin's (?) monastery

    * palace complex

During the WWII Konskie was one of the two biggest casting-basins in Poland, so in neighbourhood of mentioned monuments we can find a lot of fallen factories, forges etc., what makes my city unusual.

  5. Once Mark said that there are many rpg players among VFB's members.

So how it really looks? Which games do you play/run? And especially:

Have you ever tried to connect Hellblazer with rpg anyhow?

  6. is that what passes for oldschool these days? I thought oldschool was playing Broken Sword 1 and 2 with the ScummVR emulator...

Hmm... Maybe I shouldn't use "oldschool" term in this case, but nobody's making games such as Shadowman now

Broken Sword? Nhee.. I don't like it. Shadow of The Comet (I return to it regulary) and for example Dark Seed (with awesome backgrounds by Giger) is what I prefer. I should add great Discworld too :)

  7. Great graphics and insane sound. The shadows are comin' alive man! You're huge! I'll bet you have huge guts!

Yeah, Doom3 knocks down and with reference to my heart problems it was hmm.. interesting to play it :>

Kotor or Kotor2? I didn't saw the sequel yet, but I'm am going to get it on my Xbox this week. Is Kotor2 good enough?

Last time I was playing an oldschool one ;) 6-7 years old Shadowman on my PC. I think it's great.

  8. Nah, I don't think so. Shirley's a great writer - think an American Jamie Delano - and he's using the proper Constantine rather than the rubbish one from the film. So the only thing to worry about is whether these books are going to be a success or not.

Maybe you're right. I don't know why but I'm a bit sceptical on that matter. Now all we can do is sit down and wait. Anyway... I'll buy it

  9. Is Silent Hill 4 any good?

I think we can divide SH4 on two parts...

The First One Rocks, The Second Sucks. :icon_frown: Why?

First Part: On the begining SH4 is in general IMHO as good as other SHs. The plot is built around the Hole in our Bathroom and it's fine and fresh solution. Travels through next 'worlds' are very interesting and what's worth mentioning our whole apartment is changing constantly, so with every return to flat #202 (am I right? :>) we can find something new. For example old letters, messages on walls etc.

Second Part: After travel through five worlds (subway station, forest, water prison, buildings, apartment) we have to pay a visit in hospital...

And after it game becomes boring, because we have to look on all this worlds once again, with nasty murderer on our back... what takes a lot of time. This idea... I think developers couldn't made anything better for lack of ideas.

At all SH4 is the worst of SHs...

  10. Heh.. It's some kind of des' guide to beers in Poland. I know that in USA (for example) we can find beers with alcohol capacity around 2-3% - Poland is different. The average capacity is 5-6%, and it's very hard to find weak ones. Yeah I know that among many nations people from Poland are... interested in alcohol :). Is this true? I think... Yeahh.

I think it's good idea to divide beer's type by the reason we are drinking it :)

    1/ to get drunk

Debowe Mocne - good taste, which disappear quickly (7,0%)

Belfast - taste? hmm... similar to watered-down vodka I think (12,6%)

2/ to drink for pleasure etc.

Okocim: Palone - dark beer with great taste (5,5%)

Frater - a new one, and a good one (5,7%)

and other brands which are quite good:

    Zywiec, Lech, Holsten, Grolsh...

3/ we are buying it to throw it directly to the dust-bin (or give it to the person we hate)

Keniger - yuh... once we bought 15 of them. We will never do such mistake again. (5,0%)

Cost of this beer - $0.30

  11. I live in small town, so if not every death, every suicide is a kind of sensation. The average number of suicides is 1-3 a year, but 2003 was different. During June and July there was 3 of them... in the same place - a small forest near one of the main roads. And what's the point - those people were my friends (closer or farther).

I have two more suicide cases on mind:

    1. The Devil's Affair

It was a long ago, when I was in primary school. In small village (10km from Konskie - where I live) a tragedy happened. During the first day two boys hanged themselves on a tree with 2 hours interval between suicides. In addition strange symbols were found carved on the tree surface - as somebody said "The Devil's mark". It was a begining of a chain reaction, which was hard to stop. The inhabitants of this village were paraying and started to do all of their's religious mambo-jambo. During the next 2 days two more suicides has been commited and presence of strange persons in surrounding woods has been reported - presence of the Devil himself (like the people have thought). It was a really paranoic time...

    2. The Long Dark Night

My friend's parents are both dead. His father firstly murdered his mother with knife's help and then put her body into bath. Hour later he stepped into it himslef and then he cut his wrists... Without explanation, without visible casue. And what's really important - without any signs of fight. Why I write about this? Because I have to live in this hause for some time, not so long after this tragedy. It was strange... Looking at the bath and imaginating it. sick... I was afraid of every shadow... Especially when my friend started to talk about ghosts of his parents - lurking throughout the whole mansion (when he was 26).

All of us have questions about the nature of death. But I think they can be dangerous... A little.

  12. Hallo,

The Time has come... To introduce myself.

My name is Grzegorz (a.k.a. Lurthel) and I live in Poland... It's interesting to find people that we already know in places such as HB's forum (hi Zara2stra  ). I've joined VFB because Hellblazer isn't so popular and hard to get in my country - so in aftermath there is no place I could shere my opinions/ideas with other HB's readers.

What can I say about myself?

I've read a lot of Hellblazer Monthly and I am gathering my own HB collection now. I also watched the movie, but it is... another poor adaptation. Someone should be hanged up for this.. I also like works of Gaiman, Moore and Azzarello. My favourite music types are Industrial, D'n'B and similar. Hobby? Writing, rpg (KULT) and good Absinth. ;)

I am one of editors in half-zin Inkluz (rpg), where I'm going to publish the whole line of articles devoted to Hellblazer in my "KULT - Apartment #13" section. None of published comics gives as many inspirations as HB, especialy for Kult. That's the fact. Could I count on your's help sometimes?

    That's all (for now)
