Thanks for the heads, up, Tigger. I suppose that's what writing fantasy eventually does to your mind.
(I knew he'd done an SF series or two, but I didn't realise there were more Chaos books, even if he did leave them unresolved...)
-
Sounds good, Tigger.
I'm going through Meinhold's Sidonia The Sorceress at the moment: I'm assuming it's the Lady Wilde translation, but the translator isn't named anywhere on the copyright information, which is a bit lacking in information anyway because this is an edition that was scanned from a late nineteenth century copy somebody found in a library.
It's also very entertaining indeed: it's rather fun to read a book about a witch that takes it for granted that she was an evil devil worshipper rather than a morally pure matriarch being persecuted by the evil Christians or a prototype feminist. There's even a description in it of a Deminic possession that I'm thinking William Peter Blatty must have read when he wrote The Exorcist...

Did Ennis' Rogue Trooper story appear in Tooth?
Did anybody give a shit about it if it did?

De Nada.

I thought this was worth mentioning. Okay, most of the regulars who do (or once did) Warhammer are long gone, but even so.
And sixty eight is no age to check out either..

There's still the best part of two days to go before the start of the new year yet, so there's time for the meteorite impact or Godzilla event before the start of next year.
How about some Bongo?

La lalala lalalala...

Hope everybody has a good one this year: several on here have more than earned one over the last twelve months.

I think Musk is full of shit about that "shooting cops" thing. He's more likely butthurt because the game ends with the three protagonists pushing Steve Jobs off a cliff in the boot of a car and Lester has Michael blow Larry page's head off with a bomb in a phone.
The fact that apartheid Clyde has spent a decade whining about the SEC doesn't really leave one with the impression that he's a man who respects legal authority, put it that way.

So having run out of other stuff to wind up the media with, Rockstar are now using a female protagonist to upset the fanboys?
Looks good, anyway, and I'll enjoy playing it in four or five years time when I get around to buying a PS4...

I had to google it to learn the villain in the black suit is Ezekiel. That era of the comics passed me by.
There's some decent stuff there, IMO.
Bear in mind that I'm saying that as somebody who quite enjoyed Superior Spiderman, though...

Reading Herodotus' Histories, which might or might not count as a fantasy, given that 1)Herodotus was lying little shit who had no interest in letting facts stand in the way of his political biases and 2) the book is full of asides about fox-sized gold mining ants and the like that are clearly nonsense but are a lot more fun and far more entertaining than the biased
propagandahistory that makes up the remaining two thirds of the book... -
Is it wrong that I feel good Jimmy Carter has outlived that evil little shit?
-
Thanks. I'll have to check his stuff out.

This probably doesn't belong in here, but I don't think there's been a meme thread for the best part of a decade now...

Who's that one by, John? Sounds interesting.
As for my own reading programme, the climax of that John Wright trilogy was sadly lacking in apocalypticiness, but I'll forgive that as part of the point of the whole thing is that the hostages quite like reality as is and don't want to see it burned down. (This makes them less than convincing as pseudo teenagers, if I'm honest, but the whole thing still works.)
Got quite a few big fantasy type things leering at me from my TBR pile at the moment, but I'm on a Richard Layamon horror novel at present, which is reading rather like an '80s Stephen King without all that padding and a lot less cocaine inspired crappinness.

Started in on John Wright's Orphans of Chaos trilogy last weekend, and still haven't finished the first volume yet. The narrator is kind of an irritating character, but it's doing a very good job of dumping a load of pagan mythology into a modern dress horror story, and has a strange school for magical kids that's very obviously some sort of holding cell or prison camp to keep supernatural hostages contained. There's also some very clever takes on obscure characters from classical and other mythologies. The more of this I read, the bigger my smirk grows as I anticipate the final break out being apocalyptically nasty.

Does that Devil's lettuce beer have some sort of hemp flavouring or something?
-
It may be a repeat of some material from the Invisibles, but Lord Fanny was a lot more interesting as a character than most of the rest of the cast in that series, and anything involving anybody even slightly genderfluid looks pretty timely at the moment.
-
Would it sound snide to wonder what Constantine pitches DC turned down before returning to Spurrier and Campbell a couple of years after they cancelled that series?
-
Another legend gone. That's a glorious final word as well...
-
Same here. Glad you're doing well and settling into retirement comfortably, Adrian.

They're great, aren't they? I wonder if that's part of the unified edition there was talk of a few years ago. I just hope he's not doing that with the Elric books as well...

We could easily end up in a real shooting war when the time came for him to quit, and he was looking around for a distraction to allow for the seizing of power through a faux martial law..
We very nearly did back in 2021: if the "peaceful tourists" who attended the insurrection hadn't all been expecting other people to bring the guns and do the violence for them, that wouldn't have stopped dead the second one of them got shot and the National Guard finally pulled their finger out.
Say what you will against Josh "the sprinter" Hawley, at least he was smart enough to realise that if the lynch mob did get at the senators and congress critters attending the dual chamber session, they'd never have contented themselves with just killing Pelosi and Pence...
I love this group!!!
