  1. As a wee aside, I believe you can still smoke inside a certain type of premises in the UK. Smoking can be allowed in a cigar shop for the purpose of sampling the cigars (I'm not sure of the exact wording in the legislation; it's along those lines but it's likely there are about a dozen caveats to the general rule).

I don't understand why more pubs, private clubs or restaurants haven't made use of this loophole.

I didn't know about this... But I'm fairly sure smoking is banned in all public places. Something to do with the amount of walls, too, I think. I remember one pub was trying to make it so they only had three walls, or something like that.

  2. Smoking is fun and looks cool, people should understand that.

I smoked for about 15 years, and still smoke from time to time, especially when I'm drinking.

However, I wouldn't really call it fun and I don't think it looks cool.

While I defintely support the smoking ban in the UK, I still think there should have been an opportunity for licensed premises to opt out of the ban on the basis that they provide adequately increased active ventilation. This could easily have been included in licensing and building regulations, and retro-fitted at a cost to the licensee (who would certainly have made their money back from the increased trade of smokers flocking to their premises)

My friend, I do believe you're right! While I understand anti smokers not enjoying being around us smokers, I don't understand why the smoking ban went through with no public voting. Remember how there used to be smoking rooms? I don't understand why we don't have them! Besides, if it's for public health, why is it that everyone one who doesn't smoke just follows their smoking friend outside? Plus, as mentioned before by Jessie, we block the doors because we have no shelters to smoke in! A door way is our only source of shelter, even though the government promised we'd have somewhere to smoke.

I was in college when they brought the smoking ban in and if any of you have been to college, you know that smoking is part of a students stable diet. We couldn't even smoke on the premesis! We had to walk off the campus and light up on the other side of the fence.

I don't support the smoking ban. I'm fine with the idea of smoking rooms or opting out of the smoking ban as was mentioned in the quote above (Atticus) but this smoking ban was the wrong way to go about it.

Right, that's my argument made a litle better. Just ignore the spelling mistakes that I'm sure I missed.

  3. People.

Especialy anti smokers! Wouldn't the world be better without anti smokers?!? We all want to quit but we don't need preachy [over-used word]s telling us when and where we can smoke and when we need to give up!

Does this include, for instance, telling someone to smoke outside, or legislation barring smoking in pubs and bars?

    ...Yes...

I hate smoking outside! It's nearly winter! It's fucking cold outside! You can't drink outside! I want to smoke and drink! But it aint gonna change...
