  1. I made a thing.

    motivator8593214.jpg

And I'm nineteen-Matt Smith doesn't make me feel connected with Who, doesn't make Who down with any form of youth, doesn't make it cooler, smarter, more exciting-he just means that now, if the T.A.R.D.I.S were to land in my living room, the Doctor were to step out and ask me to travel through time and space with him, I'd ask for his driving licence.

Oh, and I'd actually say no.

  2. Is Pimento Cheese Spread popular or available outside the southern US? And is it correctly spelled 'Pimento' or 'Pimiento'?

    I don't know, and "pimento".

The shop below us was attacked by a jar of pimento, which set it on fire.

I'd like to leave it there, but it's almost equally as sad that it was a malfunctioning burglar alarm which went off, starting the fire, which Failed to set off the fire alarm. So glad I have insurance.

My question-why is it, no matter I do, this website is still the first result when I choose to enter 'Shagadelic' into Google?

Further, why is it I choose to enter shagadelic at all?

  3. I smelt someone insulting the fatal death, and it drew me to action. Russell Tovey or James Mcavoy would be horrifying, they're just too young and...wrong! And RTD did go on about how smitten he was with Tovey, which isn't exactly a good reason to base a castign choice on.

People were talking this guy a while back.

    250hustle_lester.jpg

He was really interested, is a great actor (he's Adrian Lester, the main chap from Hustle in case you can't place him), and he's not already been in Doctor Who like Patterson, John Simm, or *Cringe* Billie Piper, all of whom were suggested candidates. Tennant actually endorsed Ms Piper, what was he thinking??

  4. Thought it was awful myself, probably cause I'm a grumpy old man - it's hard to buy into a story when every possible threat to the characters can be overcome with a couple of lines of nonsense dialogue.

ding! Apparently they cut out a scene with most of the aliens we've seen at the shadow proclamation, and Donna looking slightly intrigued by the sound of the TARDIS leaving, which imo would've helped it. But

The second doctor was soullessRose did nothing-why did she come back?Who makes a planet self-destruct before making a planet-defence?The Daleks were defeated by fast talking and low-budget comedy scenesThe Daleks conveniently didn't exterminate when it was useful for the goodies-ie Jacqui Mickey and Sarah-JaneThey had another 'we can all help' moment of running through everyone showing how wondrous they areYes it was genocide-but of sociopathic zombie robots, I think that's alrightWhy couldn't other doctor and rose have stayed in our reality? The TARDIS...towed...a planet. The Red Dalek also did nothing but die in one hitDalek Khan/Caan was the most overused version of 'crazy' ever. Why did the second Doctor run straight in front of Dalek-death guns? And why did Donna run straight out after him?'Die' means die, not 'legally died (rose) or 'lost their memory' (Donna)The Doctor's non-regenerating was the cheapest anticlimax I have ever seen.

On the plus side, almost all of that creative team is leaving after the specials...for the next year and a bit...after which it will be Stephen Moffat (The Empty Child, Blink, the girl in the fireplace, Time Crash).

Oh, and none of the characters had enough screen-time, leaving them all pretty one dimensional. Thankyouforyourtime.

  5. Runess?

My computer is covered in viruses at the moment, and every minute or so a message pops up which stops the internet responding when I type for a few seconds. Thus, 'Rubbishness', admittedly not a word, became 'runeness'.

  6. Doesn't have to be The Face of Boe. It could just be a great big coincidence if they decide to write it like that.

That would be unbelievably naff. Like if in the Empire Strikes back they had said

    'Luke, I am your father'

'Noooooooooooooo.....no wait, my dad's called Jeff Skywalker.'

    'Oh. Really?'

'Yeah, Jeff. You must be looking for the other Luke Skywalker bloke, plumber in Slough.'

Do you see the inherent runess there?

  7. But what it really reminded me of was that Mike Carey Hellblazer story "Staring at the Wall" from a few years ago. Both had the world threatened by an outside force with the main character incapacated while his female friend(s) wound up saving everything by getting the entire population of the world to think about one single idea at the same time.

I wonder if RTD reads Hellblazer?

I knew it reminded me of something!

  8. Deja vu.... Haven't you created a thread like this before, Apoc?
Well, those were meant to be completely pointless questions, whereas these were meant to be more little questions not quite worth threads. Still, oompaa-loompas whould whup all other midget peoples.

Thanks Kejoxen, it was actually to see whether it was feasible to get there regularly, which it would seem it is not :(

Why does everything the colour orange taste similar?

  9. Okay people, place your bets, I think he's going to go for....

    Flying Doctor

Flying Doctor not actually doing anything

And if you all say Doctor....he'll get his wings!

    Doctor=Jesus

    Doctor as a beeyatch

    None of it was real....

Why didn't he kill the Doctor?

Why, after killing Tom, didn't he kill Martha?

    Doctor-Yoda?!?!?

  10. So why did Martha need to get near the Master? To explain the nefarious plot to him? And who was taking the ring from the funeral pire? The woman, secretly having been told to shoot the Master so he could escape if neccessary? Or a Master reborn as a woman? Or soemone else? And why can a late 19th/early 20th century boat smash through the TARDIS?

But more importantly, now that Jack has a definite end, does this mean the end fo his character-and thusly, the end of Torchwood as a series? There's not much tension if you know the main guy's gonna be fine whatever happens.

  11. I wasn't sure where to put it, thus, the thread of mediocre questions is born!

Anyway, does anyone know how long it would take to get from Surrey (Woking), to Edinburgh, by car? Doesn't have to be too accurate, just a rough estimate?

And yes I've tried to use the routeplannery sites but this computer crashes if its put onto anything even semi-complex, or if someone uses a particularly detailed avatar, and the other one won't connect to the internet, so its down to you people. May God have mercy on my soul... Thanks!

  12. The sonic screwdriver was written out of the series in 1982 when it was destroyed by a Terileptil in the Fifth Doctor serial The Visitation in order to prevent the Doctor from escaping captivity. This was done by Eric Saward on the instructions of producer John Nathan-Turner, who felt that the device had become an easy way out for writers, since the Doctor could use it to get out of just about any situation.

    Heh.

  13. [ Spoiler : Didn't like the aging, it just seemed slightly pointless, and also, not the best makeup I've ever seen. Good, but I feel slightly numb. And 1 10th? There was a time when this was 'our world' but its so far removed from that now, it just seems to be 'that palnet where crazy shit goes down' nowadays. ]

    Jellybaby?

  14. And

    to series 1, this one.

I miss Eccelston! From this point forwards, to avoid everyone having to read that from me over again, I'll abrieviate it to

    IME-I miss Eccelston

    and

    IWMM- I Want More Mcgann

And there's nothign wrong with 'old', steampunk style stuff. For example, if you look at the interiror of the TARDIS, in a way it looks kind of old-fashioned, for a spaceship at least.

  15. To be honest, if you want to be a 'new-nu-Who-viewer' at this point, its idiotic to expect them to cater for you. If you watch a programme starting with End of the Third series, you should expect confusion, and be grateful for any understanding you do get.

  16. Brave man. Given the varying quality of the episodes, I honestly wouldn't let one of the uninitiated see anything before season three, really. Anyway, which bits got them confused? I'd be interested to know...

    *Speechless*

  17. I wasn't saying it was unfair, just that it meant I hadn't noticed those problems. I wasn't even born when the original lot were around....my God I must be even more geeky than I thought. This fills me with pride. In fact I think it was the first Who I saw, and yet it all made sense to me, possibly due to my mother who used to watch it when she was yay-high.

I still feel cheated that my two favourite Doctors, Eccelston and Mcgann, were hardly around long enough to get comfy.

  18. OK, you have the 'Half-human' bit, that was...shall we say wrong and leave it at that? To be fair though Malin, although the 'sexay Doctor' may have seemed wierd, he was a Grandfather at oen point, suggesting that wasn't quite the first time.

A lot of your crticisms seem to be based around it not being approachable for a new audience, and I suppose my subjective view meant I didn't really consider this problem. Surely everyone knows abotu Daleks and the good-things-in-small-packages-TARDIS?

Still, I'm going to have to go back and watch it again, so as to to judge it proper-like. That'll have to wait till Thursday though, after my exams. Doctor Who followed by new Scrubs followed by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind followed by going out...somewhere, I forget where. :D Twill be good.

Finally, apparently RTD says the new series is 'some time' after the Christmas invasion. I'm really hoping this means 100 years or so, it could lead to soem interesting ideas later on. What do you guys think?
