  1. I've been busy with a few things. My daughter graduated from high school with high honors and we've gotten her registered for college in the fall. Running around to all the grad parties that require my presence. My son has me on a daily morning writing schedule and it's working out pretty well. I've been working on a short story, but put it aside to work on something for my mentor's retirement party this coming weekend. Spending as much time as I can outside. Amazing what a bit of sunshine does for the soul!

  2. Oh, and supposedly, left handed people die earlier than righties cuz we're supposed to be more adventurous. More lefties do things like mountain climbing and sky diving, etc.

And yes, CC is a leftie. Totally a leftie.

  3. In the 1950s when my mother was in school, they used to tie the left hands of left-handed children behind their backs and force them to use their right hand as their "write" hand.

That can really mess someone up.

Even in the late 60's and early 70's there were teachers trying to make lefties into righties. I had one - til my mom got a hold of her.

I write with my left hand. Scissors in the right. Fork in the left, knife in the right. Most everything else I do with whatever hand I pick it up in - including using a sewing needle. When I did Karate, I kicked with either foot fine.

I'm Right handed for every thing but shooting . I am equal with both . I am left eye dominate  wich is why I can shoot well left handed .

I also shoot equally well with either hand, unless it's a pistol. My left wrist seems to be weaker than the right and the damn thing gets jammed. I prefer a revolver for that reason. I am right eye dominate but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

  4. Shut yer cake oil! I got 7 out of 10!

Jacobean - King James I.  Preferred the men to the women.  Excelled in indulgence of pleasure - elaborate performances, gluttony, etc.

James and his successors tried to rule by divine right.  i.e. God appointed kings therefore kings only answered to God, therefore a king was not required to explain his actions/and or orders to a mere person.

Jacobean drama - mostly masques.  Ben Johnson did a great one that infuriated James I.  (Ben Johnson was the court playwright).

Minx, you had the feel for what I was going for.

Of course I did, Charlie.

Glad I could help. Was it enough? I can do into more detail, if you need.

  6. I'm just peachy, thanks!

Joint troubles flared pretty bad and medication changes until we got it right really put a damper on things. I'm back on the prozac and feeling more like myself - and most of the joint pain is gone. Life is damn good!

    Any word on Rosa?

  7. People don't generally understand mental pain, they think it cant possibly affect as much.

Americans generally don't. Many don't believe in the existence of psychiatric ailments, and are ready to deride and blame people who have them. If you have anything psychiatric, you're a malingerer, or have a "bad attitude," or you "just need to cheer up", or you're "trying to draw attention to yourself," or you're "feeling sorry for yourself," which is supposed to be a big sin for no reason I've ever been able to fathom. You don't tell just anybody in this country that you're having certain kinds of problems because many will just give you shit and make you feel even worse. Others won't say anything but will give you attitude to let you know it isn't cool to talk to them about anything like that again.

    I know that feeling well.

    Hi all.. missed ya's. hugggggggs

  8. Girls who like sports are a turn on as are girls that drive trucks and 4 wheeler ATVs.

Lou, if you ever find yourself single, I'll introduce you to my sister. She used to drive a semi, now she's driving a cement truck and she LOVES sports (and she's pretty, too.)

My kids had gender based toys and non gender based ones. I do tend to

  9. Here's one:

Have you carried or would you consider carrying a weapon for self-defense?  (I mean pretty much any kind of weapon here.)

As a woman with a gun collection, I've never thought about actually carrying. I'm not sure why, but I'm not afraid to walk around by myself. Maybe it's because my husband is afraid enough for both of us. I walk around downtown Flint by myself, even at night. I talk to anyone I happen to cross paths with.

A man who walks away from a fight: Coward/wuss or brave?

Brave. It takes more guts to walk away from a fight than it does to fight.

  10. Shoes - 3 pair + 2 pairs of sandals + 2 pairs of boots

Handbags - don't carry one, but I've been trying to find one now that I've got multiple pairs of spectacles to tote around with me. Until I find one, I'll keep carrying my wallet on a string. Don't ask me for a safety pin or a paper clip. I don't have one in there. If you need such things you should carry them yourself.

No, Charlie, in the first 5 minutes of meeting a man I know if I want to consider the idea of sleeping with him. Takes much longer to decide if I really want to.

  11. Well, my mom hasn't stayed sober, so my folks aren't coming up Christmas Day for the third year in a row (because mom doesn't stay sober). So it will just be me, hubby and kids.

To balance that, we're doing our traditionally Christmas Eve dinner/gift exchange at my inlaws. It's always a fun evening that I look forward to.

On the other side of that - I still have to clean my house, finish my shopping, hit the grocery store, and finish making the candles my daughter and I started. The sweater for my youngest niece isn't done yet and won't be until after Christmas. Thankfully she's 18 months old and won't care that it arrives late.

And to add some opposition to that - I've been having a lot of fun with my kids making gifts and joining them at the coffee shop, etc. I also had a very enjoyable lunch with my mentor yesterday while I was waiting for my son to get out of his class (we got him transferred over to the university where I go). And my Christmas tree is up and twinkling very nicely.

And yet, even that has a contrary side. For some reason my mentor can't get my grade posted for the class I did with him, although he promised to get it worked out.

All bad things do have good in them to balance the scales.

This is definitely one of my most disorganized years. But, the good thing about being so far behind is that eventually I'll be caught up without trying. :D

  12. My parcel was waiting for me when I returned to Northumberland yesterday evening. From Poetic Minx, it was a card, a couple of rather excellent baked cinnamon tree decorations, and a knitted scarf. Which, given that I'm going to Norway, land of Ice, Vikings and Polar bears on Tuesday, was frankly an inspired piece of genius. Minx, I'll be wearing that for the rest of the winter. THANK YOU!

You are very welcome, Mark! I'm glad you like the scarf and ornaments. I wasn't sure just what to make. Those ornaments should smell like cinnamon for a lot of years to come. I've got some from a dozen years ago that are just now losing their scent.

Enjoy Norway, and I'm tickled to have a part in keeping you warm!

    Merry Christmas!

  13. For me, there is nothing like knowing I've got someone that believes in me, believes that there's nothing I can't do. And that when I think "I can't", all I have to do is pick up the phone and call - day or night - to discover that I have what I need.
