  1. well .. there need not be a well defined seme/uke.

and, on anime - since that's where i found these terms - its mainly just kkm

ConradxYuuri. although there are several pairings there.

Most of the fandom go for WolframxYuuri.

    And there have been wars.

I once made the mistake of saying something

like the treatment of Conrad's death was rather crude.

I almost got stomped on.

I didn't know kkm. I read some reviews on the Net, and it sounds fun. :D

About the susceptibility of some communities, I have my own experience about it; I once got slugged because the fanficer didn't like the way I commented; and it was a positive comment. Worst: I didn't really like the fic that much. I should have told that the all fic flat out sucked to start with... :glare:

I also came across all of that favorite pairing deal; usually, my favorite pairing(s) aren't the most popular ones either. Never the less, I'll read every pairing of a given fandom; if nothing else, because I soon run out of fics about the pairings I actually like :p . Unless, of course, it's a pairing that freaks me out ; in that case, I'll just jump to the next fic...

  2. It could have been worse. What if you'd started humming Isaac Hayes' Chocolate Salty Balls?

    But that's great!!

You dont know the stuff I read about the Anime I watch, Jays

which is, i suppose, a good thing ....

If it's anything like the fanfiction I read, I can pretty much take a guess at what it's like.

    Now, guilty pleasures.

    ....

I also like the idea of man-on-man action, but I'm usually pretty vocal about that.

Edit: About the fanfiction, nowadays I read much less of it, since I discovered something called doujinshi...

Ah yes, those are among the things i discovered,

along with very nice scanlations, and other terms such as seme/uke.

but i only read about one pairing in particular -

hmmm. but it hasnt stopped me from reading fanfics

Yeah, I remember discovering about those terms too... Incidentally, I like my pairings without a well defined seme/uke. I also read several pairings; the last good doujinshi I recall was with a pairing (L/Raito) from the manga Death Note. Really great manga too, by the way... I only got to know that title thanks to scanlations.

What is your paring of choice, if I may ask?

Maybe Likin' Park. And some 80's stuff too. I'm also partial to Christina Aguilera, although this last album doesn't really convince me.

I enjoy watching some cartoons on the children's channels, like this one with a black spider and a kid. Hum... I used to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan; I eventually grew out of it.

  4. Snakes on a Plane? All I know is that everyone at work thinks I'm nuts for wanting to see a film with such a name.

I just say they don't get the joke.

Edit: anyone ever saw that (years) old Saturday Night Life piece, about, well... snakes on a plane?

  5. What is the reason of the lack of ASD in some of your cinemas?

I read somewhere that some of them thought that the movie was promoting the use of drugs so they refuse to show it... (?)

It should be released here on October 20.. but if it's not coming to Portugal, I don't know.

Accordingly to the site (blog) I saw the news in, it will not be showing because the local distributor thinks the film didn't generate enough following or viewing public abroad.

In other countries, it gets limited release, probably for marketing reasons. I didn't hear anything concerning complaints of drug promotion...

  6. I'm depressed. Even tough there was a listed date for the opening, they are not going to release A Scanner Darkly in movie theatres on my country after all.

In fact, I'm also pissed off.

Why should I have to pay for the fact the American (and general) audiences do not go for these types of films, and rather follow the brainless summer blockbusters?!!

    argh.

(...) would you get able to get to a theater there if they did?

    No, not really.

  8. Maybe you should get your own Constanteen appreciation thread?

That's a good idea! Hagren could own the thread, and I could be the janitor! :D

So I don't get too much out of topic, here's a list:

    Se7en

    The Matrix

    Pulp Fiction

Lord of the Rings, the all trilogy (That Ent putting out the fire on the water dam stills gets to me...)

    As good as it gets

Brother (the body count, oh, the body count...)

    Mononoke Hime

    Le Fabuloux Destin d'Amélie Poulain

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bucket load of them, but can always edit the post later. :p

  9. As for what's appropriate for women to wear on the streets, I say if people are comfortable with it, they can use whatever they want. You will never be able to please everyone's sense of decency: there are people out there that still think tattoos are for criminals and drug addicts, for crying out loud... In the end, if you feel right with yourself, what others may feel or say (or shout) is absolutely secondary.

That being said, I'm really not the one to talk: I only wear pants, partially because of men's reactions I've had in the past, and I personally think it's sad I've indirectly allowed those creeps to dictate how I present myself.

  10. Are far as women being attracted to bastards rather than nice guys, women tend to be attracted to confident men, and often seem unable to tell the difference between male confidence and arrogance. But I think some are knowingly attracted to the arrogance despite themselves.

I think some are also attracted to the obvious physicality of some macho guys.

And some women seem to want men who "take command" to a degree in some though not in all situations.

Any these tendencies could conceivably cause women to ignore nice guys for jerks.

The thing is that question (why do women end up with the bastards) can be turned around.

If not… Why do men complain about how women only care about clothes, do nothing but nag men, can't read directions in a map, or install a dvd player and when the same men show up with girlfriends, it's always some clueless over-produced harpy that drags them around, and that they are scared shitless of?

I say, you deserve what you get.

  11. I have to fart. But, I get this feeling that if I let it go, it might come out with a little squidge of poop. What we call a "shart," a "shit fart." Should I let it go and take my chances? Or hold it until I can get to the bathroom?

Straight to Hell Forum - decide my fate! This is happening in real time, so vote quickly!

    Sincerely,

I'm sure there is some kind of Freudian explanation for you to want an entire forum fussing over your behind's experiences, but I can't really verbalize it right now.

    ...

Now I just remembered that thing I never want to see again.

    (And I'm not voting! >_<)

  12. but you didnt suggest anything on Manga

Nope... Because I was speaking of it on general terms. It sort of distressing for me to some times find books that talk about the adult comic industry, but totally forget Japanese graphic novels, or that have a VERY small section about it (Oh, those crazy Asians and their hentai, blabla, the end.)

But if the first poster is willing to include it, I'll be happy to try suggesting some titles and help out with what little I know. :)

  13. Advertiser checking in! Well, someone who has worked in advertising and currently works in PR, which is remarkably similar. Ckage, what did you end up doing with your degree?

Not much. I work on a small webdesign company, and sometimes the notions I got concerning communication and speaking to the general or a particular public come in handy. :p

Concerning art and advertising, theoretically speaking (and we know many times reality diverges theory) what we were taught was that Art is about the artist, free expression; Advertising, on the other hand, is a marketing tool; it's different from art; sometimes, the exact opposite.

For example, an artist, when creating, thinks about what HE wants to transmit, he begins with himself; an advertiser, on the other hand, has to begin with the consumer. Has to totally put his likes and dislikes aside, and speak strictly on the target’s terms. That's why I found Christian's comment, about putting the audience first, interesting.

Another point, is that Art is ahead of what people think; it has an innovative message and way of putting it; it's ahead of it's time, sort of speak. Advertising can not do this, surprisingly: advertising has to send a message that its target can follow; it can't come up with strange notions and mediums the target could not understand and thus completely refuse; in a way, advertising follows society, not the other way around! I know this sounds strange; it did sound strange to me when a teacher said it.

But think of it this way: Surrealism, as an art movement, showed up at the start of the XX century; and only now, almost 90 years latter, do we begin to see sort of, shy, easy to consume surrealist images on Advertising... Society had to take it's time to digest the Surrealist message, and only now, when part of the general public understands it, can it be used in certain Advertising messages; but it's still not for ANY public.

Clear as mud? Art is a sham. What is art is decided by people with power, usually people with money, or some mix of money and power, usually academic power. Since this is the case all definitions of art are illusions. Everything labeled art is a lie. The very term "art" is useless. There is no art, only craft and semantics. Agree or disagree?

Of course, there is a big part of today's Art there is nothing more than complete jumble of sham, pretentioness, and social wanabes... But I still believe Art should have an important place in society, as type of communication where self-expression is what metters the most!

If craftmanship is only art per-si?... I don't know. I remember a gallery I once visited where the paintings were ALL copies. And well made copies, too. In terms of handy work, the painter was great! But when asked if she could create something, a situation to paint, imagine a landscape, the painter said she was unable to do so! She only knew how to make great copies. Can we say she was an artist? Of course copies are important! A painter has to copy, and plan, and learn the technics, but the goal is to create...

  14. At least Portugal was hated by many people which would have made for good headlines.

Not only we are in the shyte, but ALSO we are internationally hated… That's nice to know.

    :-?
