Hey guys! Yes, I'm back. I dropped out right at the beginning of the Mina run and haven't picked it up again since.
Thanks for the recs. I'll be getting some of those right away. I am in dire need of more recreational reading (have been doing a lot of the academic non-recreational kind of stuff).

...So I've missed three or four years of Hellblazer and want to start reading again. Which of the more recent trades should I pick up, if I'm not bothered about chronological order but just want the best stories?
-
Thanks, everyone. :D Christian, I have majors in Latin and Classical Greek, and I just wrote my undergraduate thesis for the Latin major.
After all my rhapsodising about sunshine and things other than my desk, I think I've lost the knack of leaving the house. I'm lying around reading and swilling beer instead (James Squire Original Amber Ale mostly).

I just finished reading the new Pratchett: Making Money, which is good, as they all are, but like all the others, it isn't as good as Night Watch. I've also been reading first two of the Dresden Files: Storm Front and Fool Moon, which are both very very fun and light, with a slightly silly hardboiled voice that I'm enjoying.

Thanks, Red and Atticus.
Now: go and get pished. :DI don't have to be told twice. ;)

^I'm just glad the show has managed to recover after the appalling Tritter arc. I'll even forgive the weak ending to that particular storyline.

I have actually managed to hand in my honours thesis! I can now devote some time to catching up on every Hellblazer issue that came out this year and maybe even seeing sunlight and movies and things that aren't my desk.

My procrastinating in order to avoid dealing with things is causing me trouble. The world is happily dishing out penalties for my failures, or is threatening to. I won't go into details, because I'm not proud of what's going on, but my ability to get things done by deadline or at all is not good right now.
Please get out of my brain and stop posting about my life, Josh. Don't make me get a psychic restraining order.

I am in bed with a stomach virus, but I haven't projectile vomited for a few hours now, so here's hoping it's almost over! I hope Jaynova and everyone else having a hard time with their health gets better soon.

Hello! :D Wait, I'm sober again. I shouldn't be here.
-
I am drinking sparkling rose (yes, I KNOW) and avoiding the reading I should be doing for uni.
-
This week I am listening to The Cat Empire, self-titled and Two Shoes, thanks to my local library.

Let me see... Sherlock Holmes (ever since I was eight and it's still going), several characters from godawful David Eddings fantasy books (recovered from that in my early teens), Sam Vimes, John Constantine and, um, Rhett Butler. Yes, I'm ashamed.

Johnny Depp is brilliant. Mark's opinion of him is exactly right.
And his range is quite astonishing really. Compare Donnie Brasco to What's Eating Gilbert Grape to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to Edward Scissorhands. Tremendous virtuosity if you ask me.
Yes. Just as I said before, he's fantastic. (Perhaps this thread has been diverted from the Keanu-lovin', though.)

The usual: spiders, heights (not so much now), being exposed as a fraud even if I'm not.

Happy birthday!

I have been home for a while now and I am still pouring almost-chilled vodka. not good. my hangover shall definitely be epic.
-
My lovely mum bought me a teddy bear this year, which I named Pompey, because I'm a geek. This probably doesn;t help a lot. Oh well. Roman names work well for anything. ANYTHING.
-
Chilled vodka, hooray! My girlfriends rock for drinking it with me. My hangover shall hopefully not be epic as with scotch.

Right, Zhaan, I love Pacino but he's definitely Pacino in every movie.
That he is. And while I love him too, sometimes he needs a muzzle to stop him chewing up the scenery. :D

Some actors are 'proper' actors who can just do anything and others have that 'big screen presence'. If you have both, like Pacino or Nicholson you really are special. I think Keanu has phenomenal screen presence but limited acting ability. Now that is something.
Aha, I was just thinking of something connected with this, which was that to be on my list of "good" actors, an actor must truly be a different character in each movie (and I understand that this is limited by writing, availability of parts, typecasting etc. blah blah standard disclaimer). And to me, Johnny Depp is a great example of this. Each role is different instead of being an extension of Johnny Depp - Big Damn Movie Star.
-
Keanu was great in the Bill and Ted movies and okay in Devil's Advocate. The less said about the Matrix sequels.... I just don't see the attraction myself, mostly due to the fact that I just don't see any interesting personality there. I really don't. But then, I don't know the guy.

Happy birthday.

Thanks guys. A copy of Pandemonium should be winging its way to me very shortly. I always did like Delano.
