  1. And The Voyage Home was really more of a comedy than anything else. Not essential in the overall ST mythos but fun.

that's what I'm tellin' ya, it would have made a decent two-part episode of TOS, for example :)

  2. The Voyage Home is one of numerous movies (most often sequels) made during the late 80's and early 90's that would feature the protagonist(s) being stuck in contemporary urban setting, most often New York/LA, fish-out-of-water style : Home Alone 2, Beastmaster 2, Masters Of The Universe, Gremlins 2...

What I didn't like was the total absence of "science" part (remember, science fiction)

I mean, OK, the ecology moment around which everything spins around might just save the day, buuuut....NO

it was too dull, looked like a Sunday TV movie.

actually, what pains me the most is - "oh, we'll just make up a way to travel 300 years into future, let's go and spin around a star"

    bollocks

  3. I love me some Franco, and the continuity buff is wondering if they'll even attempt to tie this one in with the previous films, or is this going to start off a brand new series*.

*of course it won't, since this doesn't look like it'll earn the big bucks.

I'm very eager to see this one!

But, that's just me who loved the first five films (the continuity issue) and even the one by Burton, which was a quite OK stand-alone, although a bit messy....

  4. LV - will you be watching the unfortunate Bakula-helmed Enterprise during your remaining Trek catch-up??

well, I think I'm gonna do it

come on, 4 seasons, I think I'm up to the challenge

    do I? :/

I must say, my younger brother has finished the Voyager before me, and he didn't have nerve to go on with the Enterprise after seeing the first 15 mins of the ep.01 or sthg like that....it doesn't sound encouraging :D

But, I'm curious, that's what pushes me forward :D (and being a continuity-freak)

or should I maybe see ST The animated series instead? :D

  5. Hi Vader. Always happy to meet another Trekkie.

Guilty pleasure: I liked The Voyage Home.

oh come on, it's not such a shame :D

I just found it....hilarious(?) that the crew suddenly finds itself in the 20th century Earth, going around being silly.... ? :/ It just didn't fit in the whole narrative, which, BTW, I find to be really good!

and when I saw that the story was retold in the Voyager's "The future's end", oh dear....I was annoyed, I promise ya :D

Still, I believe that I like more The voyage home than I like Nemesis :D However, I liked tiny details in Nemesis, such as appearance of capt. (adm.)Janeway and mention of Dominion wars :D

I'm a continuity freak (did I happen to mention that?), so I like see everything bound together, even in details :)

BTW, I've always found it interesting that there've never been made films about DS9 and Voyager? (OK, Voyager is understandable, but DS9 might be interesting :) (perhaps combined with the TNG crew, or sthg...? :))

  6. I didn't read the entire thread, I've skipped over a couple of pages

    but

I'm kinda interested - any anticipations regarding SW in 3D? BluRay edition?

I myself am pretty thrilled to see SW back in movies again, aaaaaaaiiiiiii :D

And how, just how can you guys like The clone wars better than the prequels?

    It doesn't feel right :(

  7. Oi Trekkies!

Since I'm a new person around here, I might as well break the ice by writing something casual, non-comic related :D

My first encounter with ST was when DS9 was aird on the telley, sometime arouuund....ah, let's say ten years ago :D

I saw the series, out of curiosity, and I was thrilled, and I mean it! Nice story, interesting characters, a shapeshifter, come on! It was a winner! :D

After DS9, my attempts to explore the ST were a failure, I saw previews of some of the films, I didn't like the animation, and I just rejected everything.... (sorry, I was just a silly young boy :D ) Besides, I recall hearing the stories about how many different TV series there are, plus films, plus animated series, etc....and THAT was rather discouraging ;) (the same reason I'm still being scared by DC comics :D )

anyway, in 2009. I was in the movies, seeing Star trek (I liked the trailer, and heard that this might be a certain fusion of ST and SW; and, come on, miss a chance to see an SF blockbuster in the movies?! nooo) anyway, on my way out from the cinema I had a smile THIS BIG!!!! I felt like running all the way home :D SHit, I liked the film, really :D

The first thing I've done when I reached home and my PC was hitting the "Wikipedia" button, and looking up on continuity :D The next thing - search -> ST TOS -> Download

and the rest is the history.... :D :)

I mean, I was rather amased by how good the series is

I got used to disregarding the bad effects, and concentrate on the story only. And the story was quite OK, especially when you place it in that particular time frame - united mankind, looking out, exploring, spreading the word of peace, etc....you just gotta love it!

Then I saw some of the films, or, more precisely, just those involving the original cast, and damn, they were very good as well!!!!! (OK, not The voyage home, pleease, not that one)

They were, kind of, a step further than the series, perhaps towards a more "starwarsy" approach. (or "2001", in the case of "ST The motion picture")

    Then The next generation commeth.

It was roughly about a year ago (a little bit longer), and I remember a feeling of nostalgia being present...Shit, it always happens when I change the serial, I miss the characters :/

But, I got used to the TNG almost imediately. The characters were most charismatic, especially captain Piccard, who was a nice contrast to Kirk (we got a sophisticated, intellectual fellow....compared to raw power Kirk :D )

The series was built on a same pattern as TOS, but it did have something more. It was more "real", more species have been introduced, a more broad continuity has been made....and the Borg :D I mean, great, really....

After that, I looked back on the DS9 again, and I watched with the same thrill as the first time, really :) I mean, it had a toootally differnt concept than the first two, and maybe it was a necesarry thing to do after two serials about "explorations"? And what amazed me the most, was the continuity of the entire series, everything was connected, from the first to the last season, and the whole galaxy was involved (OK, alpha and gamma quadrant, but still :D ) the entire Federation, ROmulus, Klingon empire, Cardassians, etc....terrific! :D

And, the last one on my list - VOY

    OK, no more, no less....

I donnow....The captain is charismatic, the Doctor is funny, Torres is hot, and that's kind of it.... :/

it is watchable, I can't say....but I've begun with the series in august last year, and I did not yet finish the 4th season :/

But, no matter....I'm gonna see all of the ST before the next film is out next year :D

and boy, am I looking forward to seeing it!

Roughly, that would be all from my seeing of ST so far :)

I have much much more to discuss, but it might be better not to rush things, there are some other places here I would like to visit :D

  8. When you're not into comics, what do you do with yourself?

Welcome to the forum, Lord Vader! Always good to have some fresh blood around these parts, and we'll even try not to hold your friendship with Rogan against you.

    cheers, mate (:

I was actually kind of reluctant to mention that little detail

however, I had to express my gratitude, one way or another :D

    heheh

    kidding (:

  9. Oh, really, heisann! :D

Yeah, I forgot to mention that, silly me

Well, I'm an engineering student - aerospace (or airplane, to be precise) engineering.

    That's the formal part :D

Besides from that and the comics, well, there's not very much actually, since the studies do occupy a huge amount of my time :D

I participate in some Serbian forums about comic books, occasionally write some texts/reviews or so....nothing much....I have a dancing group, Serbian folkdance, I draw, I play guitar, watch Star trek :D etc....a little bit of everything (:

  10. Greetings everyone!

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Luke Skywalker, Jedi knight and friend to captain Solo.

    Nono, wait....

    OK

    here

    Hey

I'm Lord Vader, commonly known as Vader.

I've been recomended to join this forum by Rogan, and I hereby thank him for that.

There's some serious talk about comics going on around here, I'll try to manage (: (although, at first, I'm going to take some time and skim through the forum, read the threads, see what are the most popular reads around here, etc.... (: )

I'm also kind of a comic book person myself, I've been into the business for abooouut....oh well, maybe 15 years now.

My experience with the comics is not so huge, but I've tried to make it versatille....my interests span from Disney and newspaper classics, over the superheroes and to the some serious stuff, such as Vertigo. That's the American comics only. Naturally, I also enjoy the franco-belgian production, some manga, and of course, anavoidable when you live in Serbia - the Italian production :D

I'm also kind of a movie fan, science fiction fan, rock and roll fan, I like to draw, play some guitar, blablabla....

Anyway, I think I'm gonna like this place (:
