  1. Have that sitting on my bookshelf but given what a slow reader I am....

It's a bit of a cheap literary trick to throw out a grizzled group of veterans, dub them with memorable cool sounding names and then drop a few hints at their storied history but I'll quite happily fall for it each and every time.

it is, but Abercrombie has that knack to come up with great versions of archetypes.

  2. The Bloody Nine's old crew were my favourite part of that trilogy, I'd be in for a prequel book or two covering their exploits.

Agreed, which is probably why I liked Curnden Craw's crew in The Heroes so much.

  3. Another really great comic is Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan's Conan series for Dark Hose. some of Cloonan's finest artwork, in my opinion. the next 3 issues have art by James Harren from the current BPRD series, what I've seen looks damn fine.

  4.

Justified wrapped up another decent season, I'm still not particularly invested in any of it but Raylan walking around being all cool as fuck in his cowboy hat's enough for me, I guess. I'm about ready to see him take down Boyd and Ava though, feels like he's been letting them get away with far too much.

I thought it was a great season. the look on Raylan's face when he stopped Quarles from taking back his arm made laugh out loud. and damn, pretty devastating ending for Raylan with the realization his daddy shot the other guy thinking it was him, in order to protect Boyd.

    Great stuff this season:

-Wynn Duffy. He needs to be back next season, all his scenes were awesome.

-Raylan. he's such a fuckup (particular highlight, his failed attempt to keep Dickie Bennet behind bars) yet also a badass.

-Art. I prefer his bemused/exaspirated attitude towards Raylan in this season to his disapproving one last season.

-Boyd. his tactical war against Quarles was good (the Carpetbagger and Conquistador speeches were wonderful), but I agree he has to step up and really become Raylan's nemesis again.

-Ava. Holy shit, she's turning mean, isn't she?

-Quarles was very cartoony, but I really did enjoy his weirdness and spiral into desperation.

-Dewey Crowe. there better be another great Dewey episode next year, the one with his kidneys was just terrific.

    Bad stuff:

Limehouse. I don't know if they changed direction on his character halfway through the season, but I felt it was a bit of a one note character.

    Not enough Rachel and Tim!

a bit meandering, not as tight as season 2. Mags Bennet was just more impressive than either Quarles or Limehouse.

  5. one of tonight's Dr. Sketchy's model #1 had huge breasts for her quite small frame, I found it hard to draw them in their true size for some reason. yeah, okay, I was distracted a bit by her shaking her stuff  :

  7. Rupert Murdoch can still fuck off if he thinks I am going to pay him to watch HBO.

    Steal it off the internet!

Treated myself to the Blu-Ray collection of the first series and finished it last night before watching the new season opener. There's a nifty feature where you can access an in-episode menu to get write-ups or even animated scenes that explain historical events referenced by various characters. Even better, you can get different views on these events - the Lannister's opinions on the Night's Watch are particularly amusing (delivered, in character, by chap who plays Tywin Lannister).

I hope to get it from someone for my birthday, as that feature does indeed sound wonderful.

  8. I really enjoyed that. There was a lot to fit in but as a season opener it did a really good job of showing you were every player is and what they are up to. Looking forward to more focused episodes.

Didn't spot Jaqen H'ghar, Rorge and Biter in Arya's group riding north, wonder if they are going to play that some other way

episode 2 is much the same, but more focused on certain characters, leaving out others. it has a much, much better flow.

  9. Game of Thrones is back.they seem to be letting go of the books a bit more, as I can't remember the big final scene of this episode happening in the books (though I think it was mentioned). production values look way up from the first season, some impressive CGI landscapes. direwolf, not great (seems to be a mix of CGI and enlarged footage of real wolves), but convincing enough. and Carice van Houten (my country's pride and joy, although I always found her a not so great actress) is very well cast as Melisandre. hurrah!

  10. No. Getting online is a persistent problem of mine.

Quite simply, I copied my save file from my old console to a USB flash drive, bought a new console, and installed the save file on that.

The system itself informs me that Saving will be disabled since the save file originated from another console.

hmmm. have you logged in with the same PSN account/username? that could be the problem.

EDIT: hmm, I've looked it up and this seems to be a Skyrim PS3 thing :( though there are reports that if you log on with the same account it will work. I don't know, in other words :(

EDIT2: maybe this is something for you? apparently there's PS3 savegame editor for pc, that might allow you to get it to work again: Skyrim savegame decrypter

  11. more new train girls! FYI, all of these are done in A6 sized sketchbooks. I switch between Fabriano Venezia (which have the best paper stock but are difficult to get and have binding that is so tight they are nearly impossible to lay down flat without breaking/cracking the book's spine) and Derwent Safari (the drawings on the yellowy/cream coloured pages, it's a Moleskine ripoff but with much better paper. not as good as the Venezia though).

done this past week, she had her sunglasses on the whole trip from Amsterdam to Utrecht:

I like how I did her coat:

her hair was bright yellow and orange, would have done it in colour if I'd brought my watercolour set:

I'm getting decent at drawing ladies' bags:

she had lovely hair. her eyelashes weren't really that long, pen skipped due to bumpy trainride:

everybody seems to be checking their phones all the time during train trips these days:

this one was a really fast one, approx 2 minutes excluding inkwash. You can't see it very well on the drawing (it's a big scan but the actual size was about 3x3 inches) but she has a lip ring:

cute Maroccan/Arabic looking girl (gorgeous hair, and hey, she's not checking her phone!):

    6129468197_96938a50fe_b_d.jpg

loved her thick hair, happy with the way I managed to do draw the fabric of her coat:

    6563505581_2decb4c915_b_d.jpg

this one saw me drawing her, wanted to see the sketch. not sure what she thought of it, she only asked as we were rolling into Utrecht station so we both had to leave the train:

    6563505865_accdf3fa9c_b_d.jpg

and here's the most recent one (done the day before yesterday). Asian girl checking her iphone, while her earphones were plugged into some other device in her pocket. cyberpunk, man! Also, for some reason I did this in an almost Simon Gane style. not that that's a bad thing, I love his stuff.

  12. So as it turns out, my 70+ hour save file of Skyrim won't allow me to save on my new console. Bah.

    Any way around that?

wait, what do you mean? Have you installed the patch? I've never heard that particular problem before (god knows there are enough other Skyrim probs..)

  13. As always, a little haphazard with the plotting but still pretty good - shame they couldn't get the original crew back together for one last on-screen appearance, even if it might've come off as a little Return Of The Jedi.

yeah, I really liked it, despite my earlier misgivings about what they did with Annie. and I guess Russel Tovey might've been available, but pretty sure Mitchell is stuck in New Zealand for The Hobbit.
