Brilliantly incisive and intelligent survey of the post-punk era. It can be a depressing read at times, strangely enough. Depressing in the sense that, while not everything that the bands featured put their names to was brilliant, much of the music of the era was informed by desire to make statements, create great art and genuinely chart new territories in music. Taking a look around at the popular alternative bands at the moment, it's virtually impossible to find a group that would even admit to having read a book.

Not quite sure how to begin here... I'll get the obvious out of the way first. I first really started reading HB about two years ago and have become a massive fan....
My real name's Bob but I have a certain fondness for the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoons (hence my display name) :)
I write prose and music but am still sadly a wage slave until one of these avenues of expression bears fruit...
Just been browsing this forum and, my word, there are some terribly intelligent and lovely people here...
So, hope to have many rabid discussions with you in the future!

I wouldn't say that it's become that bad. Granted the *spoiler that's been referred to earlier on this page* is an extremely irritating plot thread but overall the show is still watchable. Nothing compared to when it's been at its finest, certainly.
