  1. Well, one of them might be. Succubi is a plural, though.

Well, John's in real trouble, then. Do you think he could walk through a congregation of hundreds of beautiful, desirable women and not think with his dick?

A Rake john may have been, but how long has it been since you've seen john kick up his boots? and he is over 50 now.... There's a certain point where a man who can think around his dick. that is if you were being literal or not.

keep in mind that the sequences in HB200 were to present the idea that he's conceived these chilfren.. they are his children psychically, but they aren't his blood an she was not seduced into this situation via his dick...

  2. Even with Cheryl's soul restored, the family has to deal with the fact theat feeble Tony was fully prepared to murder his family. That dynamic , along with Renee enduring Chas in turbo beatdown mode, has all set the stages for nothing to easily reset....but then again, the situation with the whole of England at the whims of demonic posession and then just sweeping up and carrying on as if it was just heavy rainstrom was recent in a series of scenes on the Hellblazer train... :-?

  3. hmmm i thought it was a bit fucked to kill cheryl and then we're off to follow chas... i suppose i'll get over it soon enough, but i was a packed and ready for a trip to hell with JC

  4. I have no problem with quitting nicotine, to the extent that I simply can't relate to the horror stories people who apparently do tell about it. It's the habitual side of smoking I was addicted to. That's why I've allowed myself to have the odd cigarette on isolated occasions since quitting - as long as I don't do so at all regularly, I'm really not that worried about lapsing back into the habit.

when i quit cigarettes, i had just moved in to a studio apartment. I only had a bed and my comic books that were in storage while i lived in another state. so no it was me and my JC HB collection. i read them in place of reading... now i'm addicted to comic books and i havent touched a smoke in over a year
  5. Crap. And me without a decent collector's shop.

Anybody know a good backissue store in SoCal? I've pretty much tapped out the Inland Empire and am ready to range farther afield.

isn'f san diego supposed to be a comic book mecca?
  6. Umm, Ellie.  Yeah.  John eventually sold her out to the First of the Fallen.  She got dumped into a very large pit with a lot of teeth.  We aren't expecting to see her anytime soon, without a good explanation.

well. i remember nergal being stretched by his neck as a pixie boy by the first of the fallen. just as crowley was damned and so many other demons and people.

and there can always be a story that would free Ellie up for a story.

  7. Couldn't be bothered with the rest of the thread, but I had to chime in to point out Mark's wrongness.

but you could be bothered to announce that you couldn't be bothered. I find it interesting that the subject you chose to move on to regards to the snob angel Gabriel...

  8. No, no, you're right!  Because the whole thing ends with Ellie making the VERY clear point she's out of John's debt, and indeed, he owes her now because of what she's just done.

So it does. I knew I'd forgotten something, but I also knew JC wasn't in on Ellie's plan - I was struggling to remember exactly how that was made clear. Thanks!

Actually, I'm pretty sure Ellie was John's half-assed backup plan. The reason Header died at the beginning was because they crashed the Caligula Club to get the tome that had the history of the three fallen. That way, she could trick The First into getting rid of the other two, then stabbing him in the back if all his other schemes went south. I'm pretty John hints at that plan that in an internal monologue in part 4 or 5 to that effect (If I can't get him from the front, I'll stab him in the back). And, in John and Ellie's last scene together, she acknowledges that she got the history of the fallen from him.

It wasn't so much Deus ex Machina at it was a half-assededly explained conclusion. I've noticed Ennis has a real problem with this in a lot of his work. Especially in "Preacher: Alamo."

Anyway, sorry to derail the lesbian discussion. By all means, continue.

    that sounds about right

  9. I still need to read that!

Regarding the bay area, that's why I never dated while I was living up there.  San Francisco doesn't take well to "fence-sitters" like myself.

i know what you mean, but for every manhating castrator dyke, there's thousands of 'fence sitter' women looking for a pony ride.

  10. I've lived in San Francisco a while and know something of the social constructs that women in the lesbian community live under. I think it's all bullshit, but  there are lesbians who are attracted to men but are in the closet about it because they fear ostracism. I know this because i've 'dated' many 'lesbians' in San Francisco.

john is permitted to take a piss out of the situation. I laugh at the shagging a lesbian line cuz I am the bastard who thinks the same unPC things while adventuring in the PC bay area

Startling how PC the Bay Area tries to be, isn't it?

I will, however, cop to not having dated any lesbians, or for that matter, anyone in San Francisco (I guess that's 'innocent as charged') and I know that people's game can change between talk and action.

    sho nuff.

  11. OK, I've figured out the trick...when Ennis talks about his characters and the series he's writing...DON'T LISTEN TO HIM.

As for the lesbian...John just wanted to get laid.

    Good for him.

if that works for you, then go with it. I will read what Garth says about characters that he's developed, but it to me to interpret what it means to me. I say that it's likely that he was protecting his Preacher characters from the comic universes that he's displayed contempt for

Here is one of the most glaring examples

  13. Two characters with the same name with the same 'once-in-a-universe' background?  If he'd worked for another company there would have been a copyright suit.  I personally don't consider them separate characters.

To be honest, neither do I. But, laughable as they are, Ennis' claims to the contrary do still bear mentioning, in case some readers are unaware of them...

granted, but i'm not buying it. I think GE's insistence was to avoid Preachers characters from being absorbed by the DC universe ( like Alan Moore's characters)

  14. Genesis, Elle and Tali's kid (OK, they're the same person, but really.

No, they're the same idea. Not the same character. Preacher doesn't take place in the same universe as HB, and Ennis said so many times, in the letter pages of Preacher and elsewhere.

This actually supports your point, rather than detracting from it - just thought I'd point it out for the benefit of anyone still believing otherwise.

yeah says Garth. but just because garth says doesnt make it so... it's clear that he recycled the idea. in my view the Preacher story is just a differebt telling of the same story to branch into the story of JC (jesse Custer, not John)

  15.   John telling a lesbian that she should have sex with whoever she wants?  Because so many lesbians lead unexamined lives about who they're sexuality.

Obviously, you've never shagged a lesbian.

    ;)

Personal experience has taught me that there are lesbians out there that have spotty logic in the processing of their sexuality that could present a situation that JC could exploit.

  16. the last i checked, The score was favoring FOTF. John sold his soul to him in the "How To Plat With Fire" story line and that was it... Of course there is the spot in #199 where John tricks FOTF into believing that he was an imposter coached by Ghant...

how does that translate? if The First already has JV soul, then why all this? There are some spots in my collection between 160-180
