  1. sorry if ive missed something

but am i the only one reading/ enjoying  johns character over in  BOOKS OF MAGIC/ LIFE DURING WARTIME?

its kinda fun seeing him interact with Zattanna and being the most bastardy hes been for bloody years

and the book seems to be 50/50 him and Tim Hunter at the moment

    well worth checking out

i've enjoyed john constantine in previous Books of Magic stuff. I even enjoyed a two-part piece out of the late 90s called Hellblazer/Books Of Magic

but i've peked into this Life During Wartime and cant really say that i'm too excited by it

  2. i just reread How to Play With Fire. Warren pleece is among my least favorite artists . i followed the story in deadenders, but month after month I wished Phillip Bond would just do the comic.

Anyway, he isalso among my least favorite JC depictions. but I will add this saving grace: that last page in issue 126 where Chantinelle is giving JC the finger, ending that part with the line, "Get ready to be fucked by a pro" ...i'm sure the tail of Dangerous Habits was in mind when that was written.

  3. I would not recommend begining with Azzarellos HB run. Seriously, when Ashes and Dust was throught it's third or fourth issue, it nearly lost me as a fan. I hoped and prayed for a writer change and now we have Mike Carey. So far, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for Ennis and Jenkins...i suggested that Ed brubaker try a hand at HB, but maybe he could cut his teeth on a Gemma Masters 4-parter.

  4. Here's a few of my thoughts on this in no particular order.

    1) Batman - Batman and J.C. vs the Joker. I'd set the story in London. The Joker steals a magic artifact, makes a pact with a demon, something along those lines. Big trouble comes from it, Batman is over-matched. Just when it looks like the Joker has him, John steps out of the shadows lighting a cigarette and commenting on the Jokers gay tastes in makeup.

simple and effective...i like that one

    2) Swamp Thing - It's been too long since these two have been together. They're a classic pair. With all the troubles John is going through right now, I think Swamp Thing could be the one to show J.C. the way through it all, as a paypack for all John did for him.

ummmm. the first three issues of swamp thing (diggle & brecccia)

    4) The Angelic Hosts - I won't mind seeing John take a break from all these demons and twist a few screws in Heaven. I'd like to see the Heavenly Host fleshed out a bit more and John's interactions with that part of the otherworld strengthened. I'm not saying John gets "saved", in fact I'd hate to see that. But I'd like to see him deal with Heaven just as he deals with Hell.

This is a nice one too. why aren't you developing the script?

  5. hey folks,

My name is kendon. i live in sacramento and have thus far pushed my existence into 36 years. My hobbies are numerous, but the most immediate ones are down to bohemian credo. I worked at a used book store and happened to get lucky one day when a guy walked in to unload a large box filled with varied vertigo titles. Black Orchid, Sandman, Hellblazer, Kid Eternity, etc. that was around 5-6 years ago. I was hooked ever since. I was turned on to Hellblazer when it started , but it didnt stick. i suppose I wasnt ready yet.

The only space of Hellblazer that i'm in the dark on is the early Delano stuff between the teens and the 30s. I have some issues of that era and i'd say it was spotty. I've since seen in the "I hate Ennis Hellblazer" thread where a person has complained about the Ennis JC vs Delano JC....all that Tolkeinesque stuff wasn't keeping my attention. I'm of the opinion that Ennis saved hellblazer and jenkins continued to give hellblazer a home base feel. i suppose my mani complaint regarding Carey JC is that he exits in a world where the ties have totally eroded. i suppose that's life though. Who is still associating with those people who knew them in high school? Chas is around ( Carey scared the hell out of me when he sent that truck into Chas. Killing Mange was just mean. about _______? . This will be a hard one for both JC and Gemma. JC seems to be completely out of sorts. No tricks up his sleeve or anything. I feel bad for JC I no longer see him as a Rake at the gates of hell. he is once again the fox being chased by the wolf.

    (covers head)

  6. It was a bit of a half-arsed return from Ennis, wasn't it ?  It was a fun enough story but it felt like he was kind of half-arsing it - I liked the Alfie approach of him talking to the camera and the dead babies bit was suitably awful (in a good way).

I'm a huge fan of his blokes-down-the-pub stuff.

I agree. I loved the Ennis JC, but Son of Man weak. I didn't like the little asides to the audience (I'm shagging a lesbian!), and the whold "crime boss is going to shit the antichrist" thing was a little too much, ya know?

I saw Alfie ( the Original w/ Michael Caine) and immediately thought of Constantine. with that in mind, it seems that jude Law wouldve been more suitable for the movie role...

anyway, i had fun with the son Of man...

  7. Risso and Frusin come from the same schools. Lot's of creepy shadows. The start of Good intentions got me hooked on Frusin, however, i wasn't too excited about Azzarello.

It's a shame that no one mentions Ridgeway and Alcala, who started HB with classic horror styles.

I'd have to say that my least favorite JC depiction is by Enrique Breccia , who did the first story run in the new Swamp Thing.

  8. I'd say that Gemma has certainly earned herself a 4 shot. I spent time trying to figure who could've taken over Chas. Once i found out, I was surprised that he wasn't playing John from the moment he had amnesia...i'd have How long does Carey get to handle old john for anyway?
