Best Batman books, in my humble opinion:

The Killing Joke - Arguably the best origin story written. Not to mention, has some of the best Bat-moments ever. It's Alan Moore, would you expect otherwise?

Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth - Wow. This book introduced me to two things: Grant Morrison's fantastically symbolic writing, and Dave McKean's unique style of art that visually raped me. Easily one of the best books out there.

The Long Halloween - Great noir tale/introduction of Two-Face. Gotta love the Dent/Batman/Gordon dynamic. Expands on Frank Miller's universe that he created in Year One.

Dark Victory - A worthy sequel to The Long Halloween. That one page with the showdown between Two-Face and Gordon was just amazing. Even if you're not a fan of Robin (who doesn't appear as Dick Grayson until the last quarter, and Robin in the final part), chances are you'll enjoy this story.

Gothic - Grant Morrison and Klaus Janson take the movie M, Christian mythology, and The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus to create one of the most distubring and excellent comics out there.

A Death in the Family - If you enjoy seeing Batman in mental hell/Robin getting his just desserts/colouring that will keep you awake at night (and not in the good way), then this be the book for you.

The Dark Knight Returns - Overrated as all get-out, but still very worthy of a read.

I'm a fan of this World Tour idea.

Think about it, John Constantine in Canada. Think of all the wonderfully twisted adventures he could have here. Like, getting into a row with a particularly angry Nova Scotian fisherman. Or, in the climax of the arc, taking on the entire military. Seven on one, look out JC!

Err, sorry if this question has already been asked but I didn't want to read through this whole thread (my virgin eyes may be corrupted by the spoilers). Also, if this is common knowledge, then sorry again.

In the Delano run (at least), I've noticed John constantly using the term "'strewth". What exactly does this mean?

I'm paraphrasing, so bear with me here, but:

"Sometimes, this is just the way things end. I'm a definite noob to Hellblazer, but I'd say that "Haunted" is a good starting point. Fantastic writing on Ellis' part.

Judging from me screen name and not-so-subtle avatar, you can tell I'm a generally happy fellow.

I'm hail from the desolate shores of Canuckistan, and am relatively new to the Hellblazer circle. I have the "Haunted" TPB, and just received #11 - 30 from eBay today (going to dive into "Fear the Machine" in a few moments).

I'm glad to be here, and hope you'll be able to put up with my lack of understanding on Thatcher-era England, and....contemporary England for that matter.
