  1.

What does it say above the door?

Yes, escaping this land for much of the winter is about the most perfect situation I have fallen into if only for one reason, I cannot for the life of me walk on ice coated pavements. I just can't do it. I fall, I get hurt and I can't get up. Much hatred towards those ice coated pavements, especially slopes oh yes those bastards can go to hell.

  2. I think ours would be a match for your Scanmar class yachts, we have two extra feet of water line* and yours is slightly newer.

Maybe, the Scanmar would get us 5-6 Knots average with 8 Knots being our probable top speed under normal sail. In the 2003 Færder'n we had it to about 10-11 with the Spinnaker but the speed gauge started to go weird so we are unsure. The Scanmar had a proportionally large sailplan for its size which also gave it an edge in low winds. The new Jeaneau has a proportionally small sail plan that makes it really stable but maybe not as fast as other modern 35 foot boats.

Bringing the Jeanneau up from France we calculated our journey stages using the Scanmars speed. This turned out to be about 3 knots too slow as we averaged something like 9 knots on the first couple of days and got up to atleast 13 in a high wind up around the back of Denmark. Unfortunatly bad weather and bad company made the trip seem much longer at times, still it was a great experience.

  3. We were still trying to sort out a short boat trip for this year, but bad timing and shitty weather has kind of killed that idea so far. There are only 2 more weekends in which it is even possible (18th-19th and 25th-26th since my Canada trip got pushed back) before the boat comes out of the water for winter, it's not like the fjord will freeze in october but that's the only time everybody can be bothered to do the work.

I'll bring the idea up with Siri tonight if you guys are interested?

[edit] Oh and a really good way to get on the team is to be willing to help with preparing the boat to go back into the water next year... just for your information of course.

  4. My girlfriend just got into the college course she needs so she can do her masters next year. It was touch and go because it seems like she applied slightly too late but some people didn't turn up and she got in. She is nervously excited, and I'm really happy for her because now she won't have to stick with the crappy secretary temp job for much longer. So that was nice.

My job in Canada at the end of the month has been shortened to one week, but I don't mind because I wasn't really looking forward to it that much. Besides it looks like I'll be working in the Bahamas in December and January.

My mum arrives to visit tomorrow evening so we will go for sushi (any excuse) on Saturday and take her out on the boat on Sunday. Tonight will be spent making our flat look like it's tidy all of the time and trying to keep the ferrets from becoming to smelly.

No office party for me though :icon_frown:

  5. Did someone leave the doors of the Museum open ?!

I "woke up" this morning to find a nice breeze blowing across my half eaten face  after a zombie had wandered in and taken a few bites (12 points)from me, before disappearing, so who opened the door??

In a fit of rage I ran out of the building found two zombies in the park, chopped one up into oxo cubes and took the other down to 9 points before almost dropping with exhaustion (2 AP left). So I stumbled back into the museum and shut the doors, before falling into a troubled sleep! I've got 80 XP and two notches on my axe.

    Can we barricade the doors?

If a zombie has the "Memories of Life" skill, they can open doors.

  6. Mickey Isaac groans to hisself inside the Sanborne Walk Police Department, having succesfully beaten (and bitten) a firefighter called the Cyprian down to about half his life. Mickey Isaac can't fail to wonder why he can't just finish the job and has to wait around for half an hour before making his escape.

Whats that, a thirty five foot yacht, but what kind?. A Barverian?. Obviously class racing, i see its stable mate behind there. is it yours, or do you belong to a club?.

That's a 32 foot Scanmar from 1983 which was owned by my girldfriends dad. The race is the Færder'n in 2003 where we came in 22nd (read not quite last but almost) in our class. In the 2004 race however we came in 8th which was a trophy position. This year we didn't race because we were in France picking up one of these. Next years race is going to rock. Hey Mark, do you want me to see if I can get you in the crew? If we have space of course.

  8. I decided I couldn't decribe it well enough (since it's been a while since I read it) and therefore let Amazon describe it for me.

James Blish’s galaxy-spanning masterwork, originally published in four volumes, explores a future in which two crucial discoveries -- antigravity devices which enable whole cities to be lifted from the Earth to become giant spaceships, and longevity drugs which enable their inhabitants to live for thousands of years -- lead to the establishment of a unique Galactic empire.

  9. Favorite Song: Ian Dury & The Blockhead, What a Waste (Favourite song changes with mood/what I'm listening to)

Favorie Meal: Dim sum (sp?) Especially when you don't exactly know what you are actually eating.

Favorite Movie: Fight Club, I really should go read the book. Apparently I'm doing myself a diservice in not having done so.

Favorite book: Cities in Flight, James Blish. I have no idea why there isn't a film of this.
