  1. And I'm really interested in seeing where the rookie and the Claudette subplots are going.

Yeah, doesn't it seem like the Claudette subplot involves her getting all tranq'ed up everyday to the point where she's ambivalent about everything? They showed her menagerie of medicines during that montage sequence towards the end of episode 1, then in ep. 2 she just seemed to not give a shit about anything. In fact, when she almost got thrown over the 2nd story rail by the Mexican kid, she acted like it happened to someone else.

**On a side note, I think I've used the word "ambivalent" in every one of my posts.**

  2. That would be great; and who knows, if the TPB keeps selling at a decent clip it might open the door for another LS or even a GN.

Having just read the pages from the thread Mark pointed me to, I have to say I still enjoyed Seaguy despite it being boiled down to only 3 issues when it was intended to be longer. Kind of like watching a great movie vs. watching the director's cut of the same movie. What the creator originally intended usually works out better than the edited version, but that doesn't mean one can't find enough of the driving principles and themes to get nearly the full impact...... Still, some more background on the other characters would be fun and definitely not superfluous.

  3. There was a brief but interesting discussion of Seaguy in the "Recent Graphic Novels you picked up" thread, starting with this post here and continuing over the next page or so. As you'll see, opinions were divided - I, and a few other people, reckon it's an underrated little gem, but some folks really hated it. Glad to hear you're another voice to add to the chorus on our side of the debate...:)

Ahh, thanks, I did a search for "seaguy" but found it was embedded in some long-ass threads, hence the new topic.

    I'll just go there instead........

  4. Just read my copy of Seaguy last night.

I was wondering what you all thought of it.

After the first few pages I kept wondering if this was some kind of unfunny joke (I knew nothing about the book). Then, as I started to get the feel for the mood, tone, and thinly veiled riffs on the usual Morrison concerns (capitalism, happiness, science/tech., etc. etc.) I found that I rather enjoyed it. It reminded me of Brazil and One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.

I also thought that I could totally see myself reading this to my (future) kids at bedtime and using it as an introduction to comics/GNs.

So, what was your reaction to it? Hated it? Loved it? Ambivalent?

  5. Alan Moore's Top 10. The issue where Smax and others investigate the murder of a God in a "Gods Only" bar. He had a ton of good lines about music: (paraphrased due to poor memory) "Why don't you go to listen to some Metallica?" And others. I'll try for scans, otherwise I'll just quote stuff directly.

  6. Just saw Brokeback, thought it was excellent, won't rehash what's already been said by others. But I will say that I don't think I've ever disliked any Ang Lee film (Hulk comes closest, but I'm more ambivalent about it than anything else).

    Looking forward to seeing:

Munich, Superman, X3, V, and a host of others my brain can't be bothered to remember.

  7. Watched episode 2 last night.... good stuff, a lot more setting-up. But I like to see Lem get more screentime, I felt like he was one of the more underdeveloped main characters. Yeah, he had the guilty conscience/ulcer thing, but here we see him really wrestle with issues that threaten his way of life. Plus, it's interesting to see him protecting Vic instead of vice versa. Forrest Whitaker is doing a great job, his mannerisms are so freaky, the twitchy smile, the gum routine, the quick apology when he's purposely stepped over the line---- love it.

Does anyone think someone from the Strike Team will die by season's end?

  8. I've got all the issues from the main title except for 5 that I just can't find (at the right price anyway).

And I've been reading them all for the last month.

Just finished #215 3 days ago.

  9. The issues from Black Flowers to Staring at the Wall didn't work out as well as they should have - partly my fauly, because I should have layered in the revelations about the Shadow Dog better, and partly art schedules buggering up my plans.

That's funny that you say that; a good friend of mine (who introduced me to Hellblazer almost a decade ago) and I were discussing the Shadow Dog references from the arcs preceeding Staring at the Wall, and we both felt that the subtle, almost off-hand way you brought up the beast was actually quite refreshing.

Most writers tend to hit their audience over the head with references when they're planting the seed of a future plot or character. I like the fact that I would read issues and the main stories would be wrapped up and then I would think to myself: "Wait, what the hell happened with that Shadow Dog thing?"

I was forced to have faith in you as a writer to not only address it later on, but to clearly explain it when you did. That helped make me more involved as a reader. Needless to say, you didn't disappoint.

  10. Mr. Carey,

Your work on Hellblazer was my favorite--- and that's saying something considering the excellent talent the book has had over the years. Delano attracted me to the book, Ennis kept me coming back, and you sunk your hooks into me so that I couldn't get the stories out of my mind. I just finished reading your final issue yesterday and found it a fitting end to an amazing run.

In short: Thanks for a great 3 years!

    Cheers

  11. Hey all, I liked the site so much I joined.

Been reading Hellblazer (and other Vertigo titles) on-and-off since the early 90's.

Currently this is my favorite book (along with Y: The Last Man).

I used to read Marvel stuff (mostly the X-titles) but got fed up with the lack of realism and the constant immature approach to the books.

Anyway, I'm glad I found my way to here.
