  1. The final issue, Seven Soldiers #1, has just been solicited for October. If it makes that shipping date (and I'm prepared for further delays), I'd assume the fourth, and final, trade will be released as shortly afterwards as is decently possible.

Does anyone know what has caused the delays? Art? The script was written ages ago...

  2. Another so-so issue. The problem with this title is that, like the characters, it has no purpose or direction and no clear end in sight. So something as slow as the past... ooh, year or so of issues drags even more because it might never be heading anywhere at all.

I don't know what it would take to please you, cos this story arc is sweet. I love every issue lately, and I was pretty down on WD around that whole soap opera prison bit. The villain, the situation, the plot advancement, and the zombie action are hitting my facorite pace since they were outside Atlanta.

Or maybe I'm just framing your posts in the Curb Your Enthusiasm style...

  3. Shame on you for reading the spoiler, it's very well structured to the point that I kinda hated it till the reveal, which left me clutching my balls in surprise.

Nice to see this title selling relatively well -

I like this info, where'd you grab it from?

I made a good call on Glenn, eh?

I don't want to give anything away, so MINOR SPOILERS:

I of course thought that was Glen running his ass off, I hate getting fooled so badly. OK, I love it really, kudos to Kirkman for it. Disappointed that we didn't see anything of Rick or Michonne. This monthly schedule is killing me cos I want to read a few hours worth of this stuff a day! I want more more more... Philip is going to be a huge problem and I see much death in our tribes future.

  4. what like Ballet or something?

    LOL

Im not even wishing for it, because I have a ton of great stuff i read each month that doesn't worry about continuity, like Walking Dead, anything by Warren Ellis, anything by Morrison, anything by Ennis, etc

Like Punisher MAX, fanboys hate that shit because it doesn't jive with the Punisher they knew, but guys like me are drawn back into comics because of it.

Seven Soldiers was a piece of art and it used old continuity and obscure characters in a seamless, nod to the past kind of way.

I read the new Crisis cos a buddy picked them all up, and the only character I liked in it, Superboy, who I didn't like before reading it but found to be refreshingly real for a Super-Family character, was SPOILER WARNING

    killed off.

PS, how do I do that blank box spoiler tag on this board? Thanks in advance.

  5. They needed to bring the whole universe into the modern age, like Marvel comics was.

No, they didn't. They thought they did, and the heavy-handed and ill-thought-out way in which they did it ended up creating far more problems, continuity-wise, than it ever solved.

They've just made exactly the same mistake with Infinite Crisis, of course. Personally, rather than epic continuity-addled stories which will "change the DC Universe....FOREVER!!!", I'd rather just see DC (and Marvel) hiring good writers to tell good stories about good characters, without worrying about what happened in an issue published 20 years ago or more. But since I'm currently getting that with quite a few of the OYL titles (some of them aren't to my tastes, but the simple fact that we're currently getting two excellent Batman titles, two very good Superman books, and an assortment of fairly interesting stuff on the less high-profile books is encouraging), I can't complain too much.

If DC didn't have Grant Morrison writing for them, though, my interest in their books would be massively reduced. Just look at what's happened to Marvel since he left...

I agree, they thought they solved things but then they had to use the same formula a few more times in an attempt to make things right, and in my opinion, they never did.

I, too, dislike when they worry over continuity. Just write good stories.

I like how you mentioned Morrison, one of my fav writers of all time, because he is the master of taking the old and revamping it. Also, with the All Star Supes book, he makes those old style stories work. DC might have considered embracing their colored past instead of covering it up.

I would only recommend Crisis to fans who want to understand comic's history, not to fans who want good story telling.

  6. I red it when it came out, and it wasn't that people found it to be some wonderful piece of art that made it the seminal work that it was. It was that previous to Crisis, the DC universe was an old style, rather simplistic hodge-podge of superhero continutiy. They had all those old golden age stories to deal with, unlike Marvel. Super pets from Krytpon, Lois lane and Jimmy Olsen impossibly goofy stories, convoluted multi-universes, etc etc. They needed to bring the whole universe into the modern age, like Marvel comics was.

Notice how the story revolves around the deletion of all these crazy versions of earth... they had created this mythos where the many many earths were the excuse for all these old golden age continuity problems. It gave them a clean slate where they could ignore decades of silly Lois marries Clark type stories.

  7. Hmmmmmm.

Parts of this were dead good - really, you can't go too far wrong with DD/Kingpin/Bullseye fucking up a whole prison full of scum. Having Matt hand The Punisher a shotgun though and not giving us an issue of the pair running riot ? War-fucking-crime!

Amen! I love the arc, it made me tingly, but I second this motion.

  8. Rak: She's the same one who's either hearing voices or receiving radio transmissions.

The tech wouldn't be impossible, but there is no heirarchy that has such tech that would be in existence, and why would they sick her on Rick and his friends? The radio transmitter idea is absurd. I'll put down any wad of cash you can muster that this idea runs the way of the freezer/latrine idea from the first few pages of this thread.

  9. I'm telling you, they're not going to make the prison - Glenn's going to get his shit together on the way home, deal with his tail and then rescue the others.

Keep in mind that we never saw him spill the beans, Philip could be making it up or maybe he got fake info... remember how clever the kid was before Rick even showed up back in the first trade.

  10. The prison is so fortified, the governor doesn't really have any idea what to expect. If I were there, I'd say, "bring on the motherfuckers!"

The prison would fall in a second, they have no real fighters except Tyreese, while the Guv'ner has vehicles, automatic rifles, and tons of followers who are used to plundering.

  11. I can't really see that happening. I can however see him trying to raid the prison, then having the others grab or rebel against him and basically feed him to the zombies.

throw him into the arena without any weapons. Then they unleash the hordes of zombies on his ass, you end up seeing panels that resemble the scene in Day of Dead when that "learning" zombie shot that insane Sgt guy. Or the scene where the guy gets ripped into schreds while screaming.

Kirkman explains that Philip has power because he's giving this town of survivors what they want. They want the arena and they like Philip. Derivative of what the Roman gladitorial arenas were or what football is today.

BTW, hi all, I'm brand spanking new to your board and I like what I see. I was looking up some esoteric Hellblazer characters (like Ellie the succubi) and stumbled on this Walking Dead thread, of which I am a huge fan, and figured I'd invest the time in signing up.

Sorry in advance if and when I offend you!
